Mel Avanzado has a Master of Arts: Screen Business and Leadership (MASBL) 2021 from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and a Bachelor of Communication: Media/Multimedia Production degree from the University of Canberra.
He has produced, written, directed, lensed, edited and performed many roles in several dozen fiction short films, corporate and music videos, and documentaries such as "WAR: Women's Aussie Rules" (2008). For 2023, he is developing four original feature films, tentatively titled "All Pretty Boys Must Die" (contemporary thriller), "Finding Desire" (period road movie mystery), "The Diamond Key" (children's action) and "Gulf of Carpentaria" (action drama).
Mel also holds Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Certificate IVs in Film and Media: Interactive Media, Business, Project Management Practice and Small Business Management.
He has worked in several positions including program assistant for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) TV, video editor for International Productions, and volunteer event management assistant for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), the Sydney Film Festival, and Flickerfest International Short Film Festival for many years.
