A remake of the original Survivors series, this TV show debuted in November 2008. It was created by BAFTA Award-winner Adrian Hodges (Primeval) and was inspired by the original Terry Nation novel.

Hold your tongues if you live in the UK and have already seen this season, but the Us is just now getting the second season of the drama, “Survivors”. This show follows survivors of a deadly flu-like plague as they try to establish a society. The premiere of season two begins tonight on BBC America.
The first season of the show was about gathering the survivors together and exploring what’s left of their world. This season opens with the survivors in conflict with remains of the old government and those trying to establish a new regime.
Check out what the show is about:
Set in the present day, Survivors focuses on the world in the aftermath of a virulent disease that scoured the planet, wiping out 99% of the human race. Only a lonely few are left to start over in a devastated world where everything that was once safe...

What if the end of the world came and you survived it? The new BBC America series Survivors explores just that idea. While it’s being presented as pure sci-fi, near future drama, the elements of horror are inescapable. The series is well acted by players who are relative unknowns outside of the UK (see full series one cast list below). A nod must be given to those who have deftly casted the core group which seems to have just the right amount of tense expectancy about the world as it now is.
The first four hours of the series have only begun to explore the range of emotions any survivor would experience. Imagine the slow realization of the growing deaths around you. In this instance, a rouge virus whose mortality rate is something close to 99% has come for humanity. At least it wasn’t a terror attack or asteroid from space.

Chicago – Who knew the end of the world would be so dull? BBC America makes a rare misstep this weekend with the debut of “Survivors,” an ensemble show with a strong cast and timely concept but self-serious writing that rarely clicks into anything entertaining in its premiere. With cliched dialogue and awkward pacing, “Survivors” improves drasticallly in future episodes but never lives up to its potential.
TV Rating: 2.5/5.0
Updating the ’70s BBC mini-series “Survivors” for a generation terrified of Sars and swine flu was actually a brilliant idea. The very structure of the concept should work with both the excellent caliber of science fiction often available on BBC America in programs like “Torchwood,” “Doctor Who,” and “Primeval” and should deliver for fans of ensemble mysteries like “Lost”. Perhaps that’s why “Survivors” feels so generic.
