Hajni Kis’ first feature “Wild Roots” (“Külön falka”) was named best feature film at the Hungarian Film Awards. Kis also won best first feature director and best screenplay with Fanni Szántó. “Wild Roots,” which world premiered in competition at Karlovy Vary last year, follows ex-con Tibor, who works as a bouncer in a night club. Director Joseph Mangat’s “Holy Craft” won the Docs-in-Progress Award at an online ceremony Friday evening to close the Cannes Docs sidebar of the Cannes Film Market Online.
Presented as part of the Showcase Philippines during Cannes Docs, “Holy Craft” (pictured) is a documentary examining the peculiarities of religion, labor and capital intersecting at a Catholic handicrafts factory in the Philippines. Cannes 2020: The training programme for women documentary filmmakers showcased four projects as part of Docs in Progress and announced the new generation of participants. The Circle Women Doc Accelerator, a training programme for women documentary filmmakers who are developing a project with international potential, had its showcase on Wednesday at Cannes Docs. Sarajevo Film Festival’s industry wing, CineLink, has unveiled the 10 projects that will take part in its work-in-progress strand this year.
The selection includes 10 feature length films, eight fiction and two documentary, including works from Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel, Palestine, Romania, and Turkey, as well as a guest project from China.
