After repeatedly denying taking performance-enhancing drugs in 2011, following a failed test, Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun is finally coming clean. In a statement, Braun apologizes for using the substances and not being truthful about it.
The apology comes a month after Braun was suspended from Major League Baseball for 65 games for violating the league's drug policy. Braun admits to using two different products in 2011 to treat a "nagging injury" and says that he had convinced himself he was right. He even apologized for comments he made after his failed drug test was successfully appealed, saying, "At that time, I still didn't want to believe that I had used a banned substance."
It was an interview with Mlb in late June that he says made him come to terms with what he'd done wrong, after being shown the evidence the league had.

His sentence came down Monday and, as expected, New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has been handed a 211-game suspension from Major League Baseball due to his "use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years," Mlb.com reports.
That didn't stop A-Rod for suiting up to play his first game of the season with the Yankees, though. Rodriguez is appealing the decision and is eligible to play until his appeal is complete, which may not be until November. He held a press conference after the Mlb announcement, though it mainly consisted of dancing around the questions about drug use, while talking about how excited he was to play. Rodriguez had been sidelined all season following hip surgery.
A-Rod wasn't the only player punished, as 12 others were given 50-game suspensions for their use of performance-enhancing drugs, which they have all accepted.

He has been suspended for violating the league's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The results of 2011 test were leaked to Espn at the time, who reported that Braun was facing a 50-game suspension. Another test was conducted by an independent laboratory, which found Braun has normal testosterone levels and he successfully appealed the failed test the following January.

With the Home Run Derby and the Celebrity Softball Challenge out of the way, there is only one thing left to do, and that's play the 2010 Major League Baseball All Star Game. The match-up between the best players from the American League and the elite athletes from the National League is always an entertaining outing, and probably the best and liveliest all star game in any major sport. Perhaps that is because there is actually something at stake: The winning league gets home field advantage during the World Series in October.
The National League has gone winless in its last 13 tries (they have gone 0-12-1 in that span), but this year's squad might be the one to push them over the top. The main reason is because of their pitching, as the National League features sharp hurlers like Ubaldo Jimenez, Tim Lincecum, Tim Hudson, Roy Halladay and Yovani Gallardo...

We thought we'd try something different around here by turning our discerning queer eye towards the sports world, so in last Thursday's The Week in Sports we sifted through hundreds of wire photos looking for the most arresting images of male athleticism produced that week from around the world.

We really did look for the names (and teams) you mentioned, but the caveat is photos have to come from the past week in order to appear in this feature, thus we couldn't go back and, say, get a hot photo of Gabe Kapler or Ryan Braun from last year. Much as we'd like to — those guys are smokin'!
