New York, Aug 31 (Ians) Sharing articles on Facebook or Twitter, even when we haven’t read them, can lead us to believe we are experts on a particular topic and this can be a risky situation, new research has revealed.
Sharing news articles with friends and followers on social media can prompt people to think they know more about the articles’ topics than they actually do, according to a new study from researchers at The University of Texas at Austin in the US.
“When people feel they’re more knowledgeable, they’re more likely to make riskier decisions,” said assistant professor Adrian Ward.
The study, published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, said that social media sharers believe that they are knowledgeable about the content they share, even if they have not read it or have only glanced at a headline.

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (Nfmla) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have teamed once again for the annual Nfmla Film Festival InFocus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema Festival — but this time it’s virtual. The fest is set for September 25-26 which aligns with Hispanic Heritage Month which kicks off September 15 and continues through October 15.
With Seed&Spark as the platform, this year’s program includes two shorts programs and a presentation of Varda Bar-Kar’s documentary Fandango at the Wall which is executive produced by Quincy Jones and Carlos Santana. The docu was recently acquired by HBO.
The fest will also feature emerging filmmakers from the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Spain, Chile, and the Dominican Republic including the world premieres of Alberto Belli’s After Life Vacation, Kate Romero’s Chronology, and Alyssa Toledo’s Lift Off.

The Exchange has closed a revolving credit facility with Pacific Mercantile Bank for acquisitions, CEO Brian O’Shea announced at the Afm on Saturday.
“This line of credit with Pacific Mercantile Bank will tremendously increase our acquisitions power and allow us to take the company to the next level with an even stronger line-up at each market,” said O’Shea.
“We’re excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Brian and his team,” said Adrian Ward, Eid division manager at Pacific Mercantile Bank. “The Exchange is a company on the rise and we feel privileged to be supporting them.”
Self-funded The Exchange celebrates its fifth anniversary at the Afm, where its slate includes Justin Chadwick’s Rebecca Ferguson starrer The Lady And The Panda, awards hopeful Gleason, Kickboxer: Vengeance, and King Cobra.
