Well, here we go -- another installment of our little series looking back at America's Got Talent's finalists. The show is, of course, returning next week, which means we'll see more folks who are hoping to follow the footsteps of Michael Grimm, Jackie Evancho and Recycled Percussion. Speaking of those three, we'll be talking about them in the next few paragraphs!

After letting a "raw" and "genuine" former chicken catcher win last season, America's Got Talent will try to outdo itself again this year with classical singers, ventriloquists and everything in between. Sadly, the Hoff will not be around to oversee the proceedings.
Piers Morgan promises that this season's crop of talent is the "best yet" -- but they kind of make that promise every season, so we shouldn't really get our hopes up just yet. He also promises variety, which last year meant Junkyard percussionists Recycled Percussion, sister cloggers Fab Five and Grandma Lee.

He started the fourth season of America's Got Talent telling the judges wild stories from his days as a chicken-catcher. He finished it...as the million dollar winner, preparing to headline a Vegas show in a little over a month. Only in America! Kevin Skinner, the singer/guitarist from Mayfield, Ky, beat out opera singer Barbara Padilla and music group Recycled Percussion (among other competition) to take home Agt's top prize Wednesday night. He took some time today to chat about his victory, as well as his upcoming Vegas show. Congratulations on winning America's Got Talent! How does it feel? It's surreal, you know. You chase a dream for so long, and it's hard to believe when you get a little recognition for things that you've done for so long. It's a great feeling. You wake up on Thursday morning and you say "holy crap. I'm a millionaire and I've got a performance contract.

For the fourth season in a row, viewers have voted for a singing act to win America's Got Talent 4. Chicken farmer and country singer Kevin Skinner won $1 million and his own Las Vegas show. Here's his final performance. Ugh. Who wants to go to Vegas to see karaoke? He beat opera singer Barbara Padilla, who's a far better singer. The most Vegas-like performative act, Recycled Percussion, came in third (their finale performance, followed... keep reading » » read the full story and comment, or find the latest news about America's Got Talent 4

Really?!? Less than four months after Susan Boyle -- who performed tonight -- was robbed of her rightful victory on Britain's Got Talent, so did the same story unfold for opera singer (and front-runner) Barbara Padilla across the pond. Making it to the Top Ten, her chances of winning looked good; in a Top Five that excluded Hairo Torres and Lawrence Beamen, her chances looked great. Then the final roll call: "Kevin Skinner and Barbara Padilla, please step forward." Silence. Tension. They stand still, anxiously awaiting the final result. Kevin, overcome with the weight of the moment, keeps his eyes on the ground; Barbara tries hard to settle on an emotion. Another long pause. Nick opens the envelope..."Kevin Skinner!" Eyebrows arch dangerously and Twitter seizes up as a nation attempts to understand what just happened. So how do you feel? Going into the night, even money (the prize is...

Scottish sensation Susan Boyle performed on the finale of NBC's "America's Got Talent." The show named singer Kevin Skinner the winner of the fourth season of the talent competition. Boyle captured the hearts--and ears--of Americans following her breakout performance on "Britain's Got Talent." She sang a cover of the Rolling Stones' ballad "Wild Horses." In addition to the $1 million grand prize, Skinner will headline an "America's Got Talent" show at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Set to open in October, the stage production will be hosted by the show's former television host, Jerry Springer. The country singer from Mayfield, Kentucky beat-out Barbara Padilla, an opera singer from Houston, as well as eight other finalists for the title. Other finalists included Recycled Percussion, Texas Tenors, and Voices of Glory. In addition to Boyle, Leona Lewis, Shakira, Rascal Flatts, and the cast of Cirque du Soliel's "Banana Schpeel" graced the stage with guest performances.

We started this competition in the salad days of summer, sipping mojitos as we jauntily made our way through waves of talent that seemed to ebb and flow like the tide. A lazy, pressure-free ride, the stakes were as low as Kmart's low, low prices. That Was Then. We're in the finals now, baby, and the stakes are anything but low for the 10 remaining contestants. On the line? One million dollars (which actually isn't that much money these days, all things consi...) and a headlining show in Vegas. Will it be Barbara Padilla? Recycled Percussion? Hairo Torres? Our contestants performed for the final time last night, some rising to the occasion...and some treading water. We'll find out tonight exactly how it all shakes out, but first -- as is my job -- we need to recap how we got there. Join me, won't you? Decked out in the sharpest outfits of the night,...
