You know what's cool? The unabashedly sci-fi nerdery on display in "Dune" and this week's follow-up, "Dune: Part Two." You know what's even cooler? Catching all that majesty on the biggest screen available with a packed crowd and one of those mildly disturbing "Dune"-themed popcorn buckets in hand. You know what's coolest of all? Coming down from that spice-induced high in the days and weeks and even months after the fact, blasting the sumptuous and epic soundtrack from composer Hans Zimmer in a new release crafted by the fine folks over at Mutant (the new shop that rose from the ashes of the shutdown of Mondo).
Following hard on the heels of their celebration of the "Lisa Frankenstein" soundtrack will be a specially curated physical release of the "Dune: Part Two" soundtrack for the vinyl and CD enthusiasts among us. Having seen the highly-anticipated sequel, we can confirm that...

HBO's ambitious sci-fi series "Westworld" took the cable channel by storm when the first season became one of its most-watched shows. There was palpable excitement each week for a new episode, and it felt like the hype actually came close to capturing the eager anticipation audiences once felt between new episodes of "Lost," complete with a variety of compelling mysteries driving the series.
Sadly, "Westworld" came to an unfortunate end with the show's fourth season. HBO canceled the series due to the show's high cost and diminishing returns, with viewership taking an extreme dip as the series continued. That's genuinely disappointing, because co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had just one more season left to complete the story they originally conceived, and as of now, fans will never find out how it was all supposed to end.

The company is being formed underneath SpectreVision, Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah’s genre-bending production company. The company is kicking off its launch with a vinyl soundtrack for Netflix’s “Society of the Snow.” The LP features artwork from Mo Shafeek adorning the score from composer Michael Giacchino as well as liner notes from director J.A. Warrior. Outcast. Jedi? Over a decade ago, Star Wars fans were introduced to Anakin Skywalker’s blue-eyed, orange-skinned apprentice Ahsoka Tano in animated series The Clone Wars, before seeing her in Rebels and Tales Of The Jedi. Then, as the galaxy far, far away spread its live-action wings across the small screen, she reappeared in the form of Rosario Dawson this summer.
In the new issue of Empire, we take a world-exclusive look at Dave Filoni about Ahsoka’s long and winding road to her own solo show, learning how the series intersects with the world already established in Rebels and beyond, and where this galactic gang is heading next. We sense much excitement in you.
This month’s glimmering, gold-foiled newsstand cover sees Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka with her dual lightsabers in hand, ready to spring into action.

Ethan Hawke came to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival to receive the President’s Award and to show Paul Schrader’s masterful 2017 film “First Reformed,” a dark drama in which Hawke gives one of his finest and most complex performances as a former military chaplain fighting despair.
But the actor also came to the Czech town at an extraordinarily busy time in his career: The past several years have seen the four-time Oscar-nominated actor and writer acting in “First Reformed,” “Juliet, Naked,” “The Truth” and “Stockholm,” among others; directing “Blaze,” a sharp and lyrical film about cult musician Blaze Foley; acting in and producing the massive Showtime miniseries “The Good Lord Bird”; releasing his first novel in 20 years, “A Bright Ray of Darkness,” and collaborating with Greg Ruth on the graphic novel “Meadowlark: A Coming of Age Crime Story.”

Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, the leading cinema event in Central and Eastern Europe, will honor American actor, director, and writer Ethan Hawke, who will receive the Festival President’s Award at its 55th edition, taking place Aug. 20-28. The award is given to actors, directors, and producers who have “contributed in a fundamental way to the development of contemporary world cinema.”
“We are thrilled to welcome to Karlovy Vary an artist we’ve been admiring for a long time. In 2018, Kviff paid tribute to the Austin Film Society and it is exciting to extend our appreciation of this renowned organization’s work by honoring an actor and director who is so closely connected to the Texas independent film scene,” said artistic director Karel Och and executive director Krystof Mucha.
Hawke will personally introduce Paul Schrader’s thriller “First Reformed,” in which he portrays a parish pastor experiencing a crisis of faith.

Above: Alternative UK poster for Parasite. Art by Andrew Bannister.Whether or not you think it’s the best film of the year, I think by now it’s safe to say that Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is the most significant film of last year and probably this year too. From its Palme d’Or win to its historic Oscar nominations, Parasite is to 2019 what Pulp Fiction was to 1994: an impossible-to-ignore global phenomenon and a brilliant work of art to boot. All great works of art inspire more great art and Parasite has been a gloriously fecund host for poster designers to feed off, inspiring ingenious commercial campaigns and fan art alike. The original Korean poster—the first glimpse any of us got of this soon-to-be sensation back last April—was designed by Kim Sang-man, a film director (Midnight FM), art director (Joint Security Area), and composer, who started...

Director James Gray’s ambitious space odyssey “Ad Astra” was released back in September, and while its Oscar and year-end buzz has quieted, the science-fiction epic has all the makings of a cult classic to be revered for eternity. In tribute to the film starring Brad Pitt as an astronaut and lonely island of a man on a dark night of the soul across the cosmos on an elusive mission, illustrator Greg Ruth has created a Mondo poster that captures the dizzying spirit of Gray’s cosmic tone poem. Check out the full poster, exclusive to IndieWire, below.
“I was lucky enough to catch ‘Ad Astra’ in the theaters early on, and fell in love with the themes of the film right away,” said Ruth. “It’s rare to see a film set in this uncompromising, expansive landscape that is so vast and overwhelming tell a story that is at all times quiet,...

Mondo has released several new pieces of poster art for their Universal Monster tribute gallery. It features new art depicting The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Dracula.
The Mondo Gallery has been hosting Universal Studio's classic monsters this month from Jan. 19 - Jan. 27, and this art collection is pretty incredible. There's some beautiful work here. When I look at this art for these classic horror films, It makes me sad that Universal Pictures and their team of talent don't really know how to handle these amazing characters for their Dark Universe reboot films. This is their inspiration, and they haven't been able to capture the greatness of it yet.
Mitch Putnam, Mondo creative director, had this to say in a statement:

Dracula will join The Wolf Man, The Mummy and the Creature From The Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, and more to haunt an Austin art gallery.
The Mondo Gallery is hosting Universal Studio's classic monsters through the latter part of this month, Jan. 19 - Jan. 27, and THR got an exclusive look at some of the art that will be on display. Big studio news is happening right now as Overture, Liberty Media's 3-year-old film unit, is hitting the pause button, with reports that a huge buyout may be in the works. While you can read all about that here, a little nugget of news adds that Freaks Of The Heartland, a remake of the 2006 film from Iceland, is one of the films affected. Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Steve Niles' six-part 2004 series was about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents' worst instincts. It was to be directed by David Gordon Green.
