We checked out a cool Lovecraftian short film entitled The Black Goat, written and directed by Joseph Nanni, recently and got word that there are big plans in store for the six-minute creation. The title of the film refers to Lovecraftian character Shub-Niggurath (also known as The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young) from the Cthulhu mythos.
Creator Nanni is currently working to turn The Black Goat into a feature film. During an interview on Undead Backbrain, Nanni said, “We’re in development and have a rather major distributor working with us. We haven’t talked cast yet, although Adam Wilson (Manson, Ending The Eternal) is locked in to play the lead. Production design has started, but I still may reach out to some Lovecraft luminaries for concept design.”
Aside from Wilson (who stars in the short film as well, Lovecraftian artist Dave Carson (see his imagining...

For the fifth year in a row, October gets a little creepier and scarier when the Spooky Movie Film Festival rolls into the Washington, D.C. area on Oct. 21-25 for six terrifying nights of of feature films and shorts.
Every year, Spooky Movie redefines the very definition of “horror” by presenting an absolutely unique selection films from all over the world. This year the bloody offerings range from backwoods horror comedies to documentaries to Norwegian and British zombie flicks to Australian monster movies and more.
Most exciting, however, is the return of the father of the splatter movie himself: Herschell Gordon Lewis, who will be screening his latest gore extravaganza, the diabolical The Uh-Oh Show!. This is Lewis’ first gross-out flick in seven years and is an unholy combination of blood, social satire and fairy tales. Bad Lit’s seen it and thinks it’s a real hoot and a holler.

As we wrap up the second full week of Fantasia, I can’t help but marvel at how much more than a simple film festival it has become.
In addition to the theatrical performance Nevermore, this past week included a Miskatonic Institute Lovecraft adaptation masterclass given by Stuart Gordon and Dennis Paoli, a rare screening of The Devils where Ken Russell was presented with a lifetime achievement award, and a two-part live slideshow presentation from Rick Trembles and the creators of the very cool lostmyths.net. Fantasia is evolving into a three-week long series of events, appearances and live performances that just happens to also contain the best genre film festival in North America!
While most people have already seen Russell’s The Devils, seeing it on the big screen with an audience was a reminder of just how subversive and extreme this 1971 historical horror flick really is. Due to...
