Independent dance label Armada Music, founded in 2003 by Dutch trance DJ and producer Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and manager and agent David Lewis, said Tuesday that its investment vehicle Beat Music Fund has acquired Amsterdam-based music publisher Cloud 9 Music, bolstering its publishing division.
Cloud 9’s roster includes the likes of U.S. house music veteran Green Velvet, aka Curtis Jones, aka Cajmere, South Africa’s That Girl, and Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell.
“As part of the acquisition, the teams of Armada Music’s existing publishing company, Armada Publishing B.V., and Cloud 9 Music will merge to form Armada Music Publishing,” the companies said. “Employees from Cloud 9 Music will join the team, effectively tripling its headcount.”
Financial terms weren’t disclosed. “This strategic move underscores Armada’s mission to position itself as the best partner in the in-demand global electronic dance industry, projected to reach $20.9 billion by 2033,” the firm said.

Beyoncé just made history when she took home the Grammy for best dance/electronic music album for "Renaissance," netting her 32nd Grammy - the most of any artist ever. From the start, Beyoncé's "Renaissance" era has been a celebration of house music, beginning with its lead single, "Break My Soul," which was released in June 2022.
"Break My Soul" features a sample of Robin S.'s house hit "Show Me Love." Before she was sampled on the song, Robin S. was a major hitmaker in the house-music world. Her 1993 track "Show Me Love" was a hit in the early '90s, and her singles "Luv 4 Luv" and "What I Do Best" also topped the charts and helped establish the house genre around the world.

Since announcing her first solo album of new material in more than five years, Beyoncé has yet again taken over the cultural conversation. As always, the legendary musician didn’t disappoint. From the instant hit “Break My Soul” to her photo shoot for British Vogue and making physical copies available for pre-order on her website (sorry, they’re currently sold out), the release of Reniassance has been one of the more refreshing, and exciting, rollouts of the past year. Even an unexpected leak two days before the July 29 release date sparked controversy,...

Over the weekend, Insomniac’s Escape: Psycho Circus event transformed the Nos Events Center into the biggest Halloween dance party of the year, with 125,000 attendees making their way to San Bernardino to experience more than 70 different electronic music artists who performed on four oversized stages over the course of two days. I realize that living in Southern California means I’m privy to some truly jaw-dropping Halloween-themed events and activities, but Escape weekend has quickly become my favorite time during the entire month of October, as it feels like two of my worlds colliding—electronic music and horror—into one unforgettable experience. And with each year, Escape: Psycho Circus continues to get even bigger and better, with this year’s festivities being the best time I’ve had to date.
For this year’s Escape Halloween celebration, Insomniac really amped up their overall efforts throughout the entire Nos Events Center.

For an artist whose career trajectory has largely paralleled that of the mainstream Edm explosion, Claude VonStroke boasts his fair share of underground credentials. The Dirtybird Records label head spent much of his youth in Detroit, where he was steeped in the area’s historic rave scene before setting up shop in San Fransisco.
Over the past few years, the signature Dirtybird synthesis between proper house music and more bass-heavy ghettotech styles has become the U.S.’ answer to house and techno from other parts of the world. As such, it might surprise music fans not intimately familiar with VonStroke or his signees to learn that much of their influences are rooted in drum and bass.

There aren’t a great many artists big enough to help the top grossing nightclub in the world celebrate its seventh anniversary. That said, Diplo‘s DJ set at Xs Las Vegas’ 7th anniversary celebration certainly still had its gems. He was nice enough to scrawl out a tracklist as well, so if you hear something you like then find it by...

It hasn’t even been a year since DirtyBird Records founder Claude VonStroke and Chicago house legend Green Velvet began performing back-to-back sets together under the stage name Get Real, but it looks as though the project will not be a flash in the pan. After officially launching their “revival of authentic old school house and techno” in November with the announcement of a subsequent tour, they’ve released their first originals as a duo in the form of “Mind Yo Bizness” and “Snuffaluffagus.”
Showcasing the greater emphasis on spoken word vocal samples that was once a calling card for house and techno tracks, both songs also strike a balance between VonStroke’s bass-centric production sensibilities and Green Velvet’s dissonant melodies. Both tracks tell more of a story than what most contemporary dance music tends to, largely driven by a conversational exchange between the words and melody.

Earlier tonight, the official lineup for Electric Forest 2015 was revealed, and it definitely did not disappoint. Taking place on June 25th-28th in Rothbury, Michigan, the festival boasts Bassnectar, Kaskade, Skrillex and Flume amongst its headliners, with a very strong and interesting mix of additional acts, like Carl Cox, Carnage, Flux Pavillion, Green Velvet, Odesza, Tchami and many more, all rounding out what looks like one hell of an eclectic group.
Unfortunately, I’ve never been to the festival myself, but each and every year those who attend rave about it, and it’s not hard to see why. Digital Dreams, though only three years old, has made quite a name for itself as one of summer’s most exciting Edm festivals. The 2014 edition only helped cement its status further, as it provided those in attendance with an unforgettable weekend that boasted over 70 artists spread across several stages at Ontario Place.
Choosing to stay (mostly) away from mainstream names and instead offering up talent like Deep Dish, Justice, Eric Prydz, Green Velvet, Tjr and more, the festival provided a breath of fresh air in a crowded summer season where most Edm events boasted the same mainstage acts over and over again.
That’s not to say that regular festival staples were absent, as acts like Nervo, Tiesto, The Chainsmokers, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and more all had crowds going wild, but overall, the line-up was eclectic and varied enough to offer something for everyone.
But I digress. Today, the official aftermovie has been released.

After a mesmerizing year for electronic dance music, it almost goes without saying that the genre will continue to blaze a trail Stateside in 2012. Acts from Skrillex to Kaskade enjoyed crossover success in 2011, and now fans are hungry for more new releases, killer albums and massive festivals.
But while it may be clear who's leading the charge, there are more than a few Edm upstarts who've been making noise, and if one thing is for certain, it's that they'll be shaping the musical landscape in the months to come. In MTV News' Rookie Roll Call, we break down exactly which acts (some greener than others) we've got our eye on as the dance scene gets locked and loaded for another killer year.

On an otherwise hot and sunny Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, an abnormal cold front made its way into the mix, leaving Tao Beach party-goers to seek shelter in their cabanas. Chilly, half naked bodies snuggled up under towels leaving the super posh party spot looking more like a ski lodge than one of the hottest poolside destinations in Sin City.
It was uncertain where the day would go from there but those in attendance were eagerly awaiting the upcoming set by Dragan Roganović, better known by his DJ moniker Dirty South. In a seemingly divine act straight from the pages of the biblical texts, the moment Dirty South hit the decks, the clouds parted, the wind subsided and the sun finally came out.
