- Daoud Abdel Sayed originally wrote "Messages from the Sea" for leading Egyptian star Ahmed Zaki who passed away after losing his battle for cancer. The role was re-written to suite Asser, who is more than 30 years younger than the late Zaki.
- For his role in "Messages from the Sea", Asser Yassin took vocal classes with vocal coach and singer Eman Younis to perfect the stutter that his character in the movie suffered from. Asser won several awards as Best Actor for his role in this movie.
- On the 28th minute of Rags and Tatters, Asser's mother appears on screen in a silent role for 1 minute.
- Asser won "Best Actor" award from Carthage Film Festival in 2010.
- Graduated from the American University in Cairo with a Bsc in Mechanical Engineering where he worked as a teaching assistant afterwards before pursuing a career in acting.
- Started acting in University by mere chance when one of his colleagues told him about an audition for a role in an Arabic speaking play.
- In 2006, Yassin played a small role in the movie "Yacoubian Building" (based on a novel with the same title) as a terrorist. Ironically, the year after, Yassin played a leading role in the series version of the same novel.
