After taking a couple years off to concentrate on his own filmmaking activities, Joshua Grannell, aka Peaches Christ, is reviving his San Francisco Underground Short Film Festival for 2011. Yes, the festival is currently open for submissions, but, as always, you have to live in the Bay Area to have your film get in.
The Sfusff ran for several years as the concluding event of Peaches Christ’s wildly popular summer Midnight Mass screening series, which began in 1998 and would screen several cult Hollywood and indie film classics over the summer. Along with the movies, there was also usually an accompanying stage show featuring drag queens and other performers, plus costume contests and filmmakers and stars in attendance.

Cinekink, the NYC-based erotic film festival, is bringing its unique brand of sexuality to Los Angeles for three steamy nights on Oct. 8-10.
The festival’s definition of “erotica” is clearly a very broad one that includes neo-burlesque performers, bored dominatrices, kinky judges, randy sheep-women, 9/11 enthusiasts and more.
The feature films that are screening — the documentaries Waxie Moon by Wes Hurley and My Sexuality: A Sensory Experience by Felicia Giouzelis; and the fiction films S&M Judge by Erik Lamens and Modern Love Is Automatic by Zach Clark — were all award winners at the 2010 Cinekink. The short film program on the 9th, collectively titled “Best of Cinekink/2010,” also features a batch of award winners, while the other programs are a mix of general 2010 festival favorites.
Regular readers of Bad Lit will have noticed that one of our favorite films of 2009, Modern Love Is Automatic, will be screening, so we’re thrilled about that.

The Atlanta Underground Film Festival wrapped up its 7th successful year back on Aug. 29 and has given out awards to 13 feature films and 14 shorts.
Several of the winners are films that have been featured here on Bad Lit, either with a review or having been embedded on the site for your viewing pleasure. First, repeat Auff winner Chris Hansen won the Best Director award for his second feature film Endings, a film that finds three disparate strangers spending their last day on Earth together.
Loretta Hintz‘s outrageous lesbian farm fantasy The Sheep and the Ranch Hand took home the 2010 Auff The Wall award. Also, the recently embedded The Shave by Sean Christensen, a haunting memoir, won the Best Experimental Short award. And, lastly, I was very happy to see that animator Victoria Cook, whom I’ve written about in the past, took home the Best Short Short award for her Devil Town.

The 7th annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival is like having four different fests crammed into an exhaustive three days on Aug. 27-29. It’s an outrageous underground fest, an animation festival, a documentary fest and a horror movie festival: The culmination of a month of fests run by Atlanta’s Festival League. There’s tons of short films, documentaries, features and more.
There’s lots of great stuff to recommend, too. On the last night of the fest, there will be a screening of Chris Hansen‘s second feature film, Endings, which tells the touching story of three people spending their last day on Earth together. The teasing is over! This here is the real deal. The moment we wait all year for: The lineup for the powerful, the mighty Boston Underground Film Festival, which is set to run March 25 to April 1. Now in its 12th year, Buff shows no sign of slowing down or taking it easy. In fact, this might be their most demented and transgressive edition yet.
There are homages to Giallo horror, tributes to the grand grindhouse tradition of sleaze and exploitation, sex and violence galore — both separately and together — plus, a resurrected ’80s slasher classic that all combine into an epic celebration of everything that is vicious and twisted in this world. But, in a fun way, ya know.

The seventh annual CineKink Film Festival in NYC gave all kinds of perverts and kinky-minded individuals a warm haven during the cold month of February, Feb. 16-21 specifically. Lots of sexy fare was screened at the venerated Anthology Film Archives, but the sexiest of the sexiest? That would be these award-winning films listed below.
Your average kinky film fan was given the chance to vote for several Audience Choice Awards, but there was also a jury of super kinksters voting on short films; plus the ultimate kinky players, i.e. the staff of the CineKink fest itself, gave out a handful of special awards.

Don’t get too excited, there’s no real sex with real animals in Hintz’s short film. Instead, a bored, lonely gal (Dyan McBride) drifts asleep while watching Bonanza reruns and imagines herself as a cloven-footed, wool-covered animal playfully romping on a sunny hillside.
