David Graziano, who takes over showrunning duties on “Law & Order: Svu” from longtime executive producer Warren Leight, told TheWrap that Season 24 will be all about “healing and deep trauma” for Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who’s been put through the wringer over the last two decades on the NBC show.

Kelli Giddish will be exiting “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” during Season 24, TheWrap has confirmed. The actress, who has portrayed Detective Amanda Rollins on the NBC procedural since 2011, will be in the premiere episode of the upcoming season.
“I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on ‘Law & Order: Svu.’ Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the ‘Law & Order’ family for the last 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well. I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life,” the actress said in a statement.

It's perhaps the biggest investigation of all. Do detectives date? While the track record for detectives dating other detectives (or captains) in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's 23-year history, is, well, not the greatest, the Internet has posed an interesting question: What about a detective and somebody who isn't a member of the NYPD's finest? Enter, Svu Detective Joe Velasco and Elliot Stabler's daughter, Kathleen. It's easy to see why the ship, dubbed "Joleen" by fans on Twitter, has taken off in popularity online. Joe and Kathleen are two beloved characters, both in a similar age bracket, and based on their appearances in their respective Law &...

There's a new dedicated detective in town. Well, relatively new, that is. Octavio Pisano joined the cast of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit as a series regular back in September as Joe Velasco, a detective hailing from a border town in Mexico and finding his way to Svu after a stint undercover. But, with summer around the corner and a season now under his belt, Pisano calls his final day on set "bittersweet." His co-star Ice-t likened it to the last day of school, Pisano shared in an exclusive interview with E! News. "The last few episodes, after the 22 episode season, you're just looking forward to that break and you just want to relax," he said. "And that...

Octavio Pisano’s character Detective Joe Velasco crosses over to “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on Thursday’s episode, “The Lost One,” where he teams up with Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) and tech whiz Jet Slootmaeker (Ainsley Seiger) to find a kidnapped girl.
While Velasco, who only joined the Svu squad this season, took a while to earn the approval of veteran cop Fin Tutuola (Ice-t), when Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) recommends him for the assignment, Stabler is impressed with his work.
“They actually get along great,” Pisano told TheWrap of Stabler and Velasco’s working relationship. “They both have backgrounds in organized crime. He’s been in that world before, so I think Stabler saw that and appreciated it.”
As for working with Seiger, who is also fairly new to the “Law & Order” universe, Pisano said, “She’s fantastic. I haven’t seen much of her work until I...

Showrunner Warren Leight caught fans by surprise when he announced he was stepping away from “Law & Order: Svu” on Tuesday. A day later, series regular Octavio Pisano told TheWrap the cast and crew were unaware that Leight planned to leave.
“I saw him yesterday on set, but it was a surprise to us all,” Pisano said Wednesday. “I expressed my gratitude to him yesterday, and I wish I would have known [he was leaving]. I would have gone a little bit deeper.”
“The final day of shooting is always bittersweet,” Leight wrote on Twitter. “Today was a little more than that. As some of you have already figured out, I am stepping down at the end of #SVU23. The last two years of show running during a pandemic have been arduous, and I’ve decided to take a break.”

When Law & Order: Svu gets underway in the fall, it will be under new leadership.
Warren Leight confirmed Tuesday that he would be stepping away from the veteran NBC drama.
“The final day of shooting is always bittersweet,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Today was a little more than that. As some of you have already figured out, I am stepping down at the end of #SVU23."
"The last two years of show running during a pandemic have been arduous, and I’ve decided to take a break.”
Leight initially worked as showrunner from seasons 13 to 17 and returned for Law & Order: Svu Season 21.
“At least once a week this year a brick came thru the window,” Leight added.
“This person quarantined, that location lost, another show fell behind and our guest star was no longer available."
"Each time casting, camera, design, wardrobe, locations, h/mu, props, drivers came up with a save.

Svu is at its best when addressing issues related to prosecuting powerful rapists.
Law & Order: Svu Season 23 Episode 16 was no exception.
Jackson Wright was one of the most despicable Svu villains yet. Still, he nearly got away with multiple rapes because of his powerful position as a CEO of a successful company and his ability to lie with a straight face.
This was one of those stories that seemed like it was going in a totally different direction.
Newcomer Joe Velasco is an enigma as far as Svu goes. Deputy Chief McGrath installed him as a spy, and nobody quite trusts him.
So when his date fell down the stairs after screaming at him to leave her alone, I didn't expect anyone to believe his version of events.
This easily could have gone the way of Velasco having to prove his innocence while Svu argued about whether "believe...

We’ll be seeing more of Octavio Pisano on Law & Order: Svu. Pisano, who portrays Detective Joe Velasco, has been promoted to series regular on the NBC procedural.
Pisano’s Joe Velasco is a former undercover and detective under Chief McGrath (Terry Serpico) who’s been assigned to the Svu. Pisano has appeared in 3 episodes so far, beginning with the season 23 premiere.
Season 23 picked up mere hours after last season’s finale, where Catalina Machado (Zabryna Guevara) was arrested for trafficking single mothers living in shelters in a complex housing-for-sex scheme. She now wants to flip on her superiors in exchange for a deal with the feds, and names a powerful congressman as the big fish. It’s a make-or-break case for the NYPD and puts enormous pressure on the entire Svu squad to get a conviction.
Pisano’s promotion follows the recent exits of two key cast members — Jamie Gray Hyder,...
