Arrow Video have announced brand new 4K restorations of both Demons and its sequel Demons 2, presented in more vivid and terrifying ways than ever before, alongside a wealth of bonus features old and new, making this the ultimate experience in celluloid terror.
In the early 1980s, Dario Argento, the famed horror maestro responsible for such classics as Suspiria and Deep Red, branched out from directing into producing, shepherding the work of his fellow filmmakers to the screen – among them Lamberto Bava, son of the legendary Mario Bava. Together, they crafted two tales of terror that would become synonymous with Italian 80s horror, in which the veil between the real world and the silver screen is torn asunder.
In 1985’s Demons, a motley assortment of unwitting filmgoers accept invitations to a screening at the mysterious Metropol theatre. However, as the brutal slasher film unspools, the horror breaks free from the constraints of the screen,...

I remember seeing the 1978 classic, Dawn of the Dead, in the mid-90s. It was one of the first horror movies I ever really fell in love with, and helped turn me into a fully fledged horror fan. George A. Romero’s masterpiece has become an iconic picture in the history of cinema, and one of the most beloved horror films of all time. While it wasn’t the first zombie movie, it certainly changed the landscape of what a zombie movie could be. From the location to the music to the scenes of gore, Dawn of the Dead is absolutely and undeniably great.
We all know what the film is all about. It’s the tale of a group of survivors holding up in...

After raising the dead in 1979's Zombie (aka Zombi 2), Lucio Fulci took a blood-spattered "bite out of the Big Apple" in the giallo The New York Ripper. The Fifth Cord will be available on Blu-ray February 5th From Arrow Video
The success of Dario Argento s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage ushered in a host of imitators, seeking to capitalize on this new, modern take on the giallo thriller. Many were highly derivative, but a number nonetheless rose above the crowd thanks to skillful execution and a willingness to experiment stylistically. Once such example is The Fifth Cord ¬ which, in the hands of director Luigi Bazzoni, turns a conventional premise into a visually stunning exploration of alienation and isolation.
When a man barely survives a brutal assault en route home from a New Year s party, washed-up, whisky-swilling journalist Andrea Bild is assigned to report on the case. Before long, the maniac strikes again, this time with fatal results. As the body count rises, Andrea falls under suspicion himself, making it even more imperative that he crack the case.

Average fans of A Christmas Story likely don’t know that director Bob Clark had once made creepy horror pictures with Alan Ormsby, but this independent shock effort of the early ’70s still casts a spell of dread. Although Vietnam is never mentioned, the war’s shadow strikes deep into the heart of a small-town family. John Marley and Lynn Carlin lead a fine cast.

We may only have several home entertainment releases for this Tuesday, but as the saying goes, “quality over quantity,” because this bunch of Blu-rays and DVDs are a stellar lot of films. One of my favorite horror films of 2017, Mark Duplass’ Creep 2, makes its way home on November 28th courtesy of The Orchard, and Scream Factory has given Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery the Collector’s Edition treatment (and deservedly so).
For you cult film fans, both Death Laid an Egg and Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) get the HD treatment this week, and other notable releases this Tuesday include M.F.A., Rememory, Super Dark Times, Woodshock, and Trailer Trauma 4: Television Trauma.
Creep 2 (The Orchard, DVD)
Sara, a video artist primarily focused on creating intimacy with lonely men, thinks she may have found the subject of her dreams after coming across a stranger’s online post.

For you cult cinema fans out there, I hope your wallets are ready for some serious damage, as there are a ton of great offerings coming home on November 14th, including the gorgeous limited edition Hellraiser Steelbook, The Paul Naschy Collection II, J.D.’s Revenge, and Arrow’s stunning Blu-ray set honoring one of horror’s true greats—George A. The late, great Bob Clark will forever be synonymous with the holiday season thanks to his films Black Christmas and A Christmas Story, but before he brought those stories to life on screen, he gave horror fans the gift of Deathdream, aka Dead of Night (read our own Scott Drebit's Drive-In Dust Offs article on the film here). This may not seem like large news to anyone outside of Philadelphia, but the fact that Travis Crawford's Danger after Dark film program has returned this summer is a bit of a tiny miracle. There has been a lot of doubt and speculation whether Danger after Dark would be helmed by Crawford again or whether it would ever come back in any form again. I'm pleasantly surprsied to report that Danger After Dark is indeed returning to Philly and is curated by its original founder. Oddly nestled within the Philadelphia Q-Fest (our largest gay and lesbian film festival), Danger after Dark is a bit of a bastard child, a mutant abomination that's been chained up in the cellar of a crumbling and dilapidated home....

"An insane true story about an unemployed Army veteran and crystal-meth addict named Shawn Nelson who stole a tank from a San Diego military base in 1995 and went on a rampage, [Cul-de-Sac: A Suburban War Story] sounds — in abstract, at least — like an appealing piece of wish-fulfillment fantasy," writes Steve Dollar in the Wall Street Journal. "But it also was a profound tragedy that resonated long after the destructive stunt faded from the memory of a local evening-news audience. The incident, which ended with Nelson's death, is memorialized and given rich context by Garrett Scott's 2002 documentary, which frames the mayhem within the rise and fall of Clairmont, CA, Mr Nelson's hometown and a city whose fortunes were tied to its manufacturing of bombs for the American war effort. The screening also recalls the achievements of Mr Scott, who died in 2006 at age 37."

You might think you know exactly what you're getting into with a film boasting the title, Big Tits Zombie 3D. Obviously, you can't have any expectations of anything resembling a quality film. But you're probably feeling confident that you're going to have a fun time right? Deep down, I was secretly hoping for something along the lines of The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai.
But I'm here to warn you not to be fooled into the promise of pure, unabashed sleaze entertainment. No amount of booze or any other type of recreational substance is going to make this film enjoyable. Big Tits 3D made Robogeisha look like the Citizen Kane of Japanese splatter comedy. This film doesn't even deliver on the promise of its title. There are no zombies with big tits, hell, there's hardly any tits at all. First impression thirty minutes into Dogtooth: "This is not a good film to come to drunk."
Hopefully, now that I've moved on from the Makers Mark pre-gaming to some exquisitely tasty espresso flavored Vodka as I write this; I'll find a nice even balance to coherently review this film.
On second thought, fuck it... This film put me through one hell of a loop and I plan on doing the same to you, dear reader.
Danger After Dark programmer, Travis Crawford, briefly introduced Dogtooth with a warning, "The less you know about this film, the better. It's best enjoyed if you know nothing."
Sitting next to a pair of giggling and unexpecting hipsters discussing their excitement for seeing some "fucked up foreign shit," I thought to myself, "Damn. I've been reading reviews and following news on this for well over a year and I pretty much know all of the major plot points.
First impression thirty minutes into Dogtooth: "This is not a good film to come to drunk."

Philadelphia's Danger After Dark is back for its 10th Anniversary and returning to its confrontational roots, showing the darkest, most bizarre cinema Philadelphia has ever seen. Starting July 9 and ending July 19, this 10-day summer festival will be centered in exciting Old City at Philadelphia's favorite art-house cinemas, the Ritz Bourse. Presented by the Philadelphia Film Alliance, the festival sees a return of Travis Crawford, whose vision of Danger After Dark moves beyond showing just horror films. Crawford has pieced together a film selection that celebrates Danger After Dark's 10th year with Japanese science-fiction parodies, restorations of old exploitation movies, art house material from Greece and Estonia, and a disturbing American indie thriller, among many others....

In my post below about “Scarface School Play” I injected a healthy note of skepticism that any school would sanction a school play in which mounds of popcorn stood in for Tony Montana’s cocaine. Now, TMZ is reporting that the video was indeed a fake. According to the site: Instead, it’s the work of director Marc Klasfeld and Rockhard Films who did the videos for Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface” and Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment.” It was produced in L.A. within the last few weeks and the audience members were a mix of cast family members, colleagues and friends. As Travis Crawford notes in the comments thread below, many in the blogosphere are heaving a sigh of relief that it...
