The UK’s Raindance Film Festival has revealed the line-up for its 2018 edition (September 26-October 7), with over 80 features and 99 shorts screening at the festival.
The programme includes 31 world premieres, 28 international premieres, 21 European and 81 UK premieres.
The festival will open with the UK premiere of Marialy Rivas’ Chilean drama Princesita about a girl growing up in a cult. It premiered at Tiff in 2017 and is produced by Juan de Dios Larrain’s Fabula.
According to the festival, it received a record 8,929 submissions from 118 countries.

Fantaspoa has been bringing the latest in genre cinema to South America with their film festivals and have just announced that they're expanding into distribution. The newly announced FantasFilms will bring around 20 feature films per year to Brazilian cinemas, including Dave Made a Maze, The Ranger, Mohawk, and more:

Brazil’s Fantaspoa, the largest genre film festival in Latin America, have revealed the second wave of programming selected for their upcoming fourteenth edition, running from May 17th through June 3rd, 2018. The celebrated genre film fest, which takes place annually in the lakeside city of Porto Alegre will announce their full line-up, containing more than 100 films from around the world, on the second week of May.
Twenty new features are being announced today, in addition to the seventeen previously announced, which included Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, Mohawk, The Ranger, Ederlezi Rising, and Les Garçons Sauvages.
Along with previously announced “Masters of Horror” creator Mick Garris, director William Lustig will also receive a career achievement award at the 2018 festival. Lustig, whose films include Maniac, Uncle Sam, and the Maniac Cop trilogy, is also the CEO of Blue Underground, an American entertainment company specializing in the distribution of obscure exploitation films.

31% of feature films made in Israel in 2016 were directed by women.
The Israeli film industry recorded a strong year for female filmmakers in 2016. At Jff last year, Screen reported that in 2015 only 10% of the country’s feature films were directed by women, but that figure rose sharply last year, clocking in at 31%.
In total, 10 of the 32 narrative feature films produced in Israel in 2016 were directed by female filmmakers, according to statistics compiled by Lior Elefant, who heads up lobbying organisation Women in Film and Television Israel Forum.
Speaking to Screen at last year’s Jff, Elefant predicted the situation would improve as the major Israeli film funds sought to place more emphasis on boosting women directors.

Returning for a second time after launching in 2016, the festival’s international competition has picked a total of 12 titles and will again award a prize of $20,000 to the winning film.

Exclusive: Producer of Rafi Pitts’ Berlinale Competition title is lining up several new projects.
Twenty Twenty Vision Filmproduktion, the German producer of Rafi Pitts’ Berlinale Competition title Soy Nero [pictured], is lining up projects from Israel and Cyprus.
Twenty Twenty’s managing director Thanassis Karathanos told Screen that principal photography on Israeli filmmaker Veronica Kedar’s Family began at locations in the German city of Halle last week.
Although the film’s story is set in Israel, Family will be shot completely in Germany. It marks another collaboration for Karathanos with Mosh Danon’s Inosan Productions after working together on Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani’s 2009 film Ajami.
Kedar’s second feature had been pitched at the 2014 edition of the Berlinale Co-Production Market where Twenty Twenty’s second project, Christos Georgiou’s Happy Birthday, was also presented to potential co-producers.
A March start is planned for the shooting of Georgiou’s first feature since the 2008 comedy Small Crime and...

Filmmaker Veronica Kedar was awarded $50,000 (Usd) this weekend at the Jerusalem International Film Lab. Kedar, known for Joe + Belle, received the award for her new feature project, Family. Moshe Danon of Inosan Productions, producer of Academy Award nominee Ajami, will produce. Another $30,000 (Usd) was awarded to director Dani Rosenberg and producer Eilon Ratzkovsky of July-August Productions for The Vanishing Soldier.
