Suzuka Morita of Idoling!!! and Mariya Suzuki of AKB48 are set to star in two new horror movies due out on the same day this summer.
Both movies, 2-channel no Noroi Shin Gekijoban: Honki (starring Suzuki) and Anata no Shiranai Kowai Hanashi Gekijoban (starring Morita), are theatrical versions of DVD releases which recently gained popularity.
Just a few days ago, it was announced that Morita will be graduating from Idoling!!! at the end of this month to concentrate on her acting, so she’s apparently wasting no time getting on with the next phase of her career.
In “Anata no Shiranai Kowai wa Gekijoban”, she’ll be playing a graduate student whose mother was killed by a prowler when she was a small child, leaving her emotionally scarred. Because of this, she seeks revenge by invoking a curse on the man in the form of a video.

Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark Announced: The Asylum officially announced the third film in their Mega Shark series:
“The Asylum has officially greenlit production on Mega Shark Vs. Mecha Shark, a much anticipated third installment in the ‘Mega Shark’ franchise, following Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus in 2009 and Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus in 2010. When Mega Shark returns in this all-new feature film, the government releases the top-secret Mecha Shark to defeat the franchise’s popular monster in a fierce battle that threatens the planet.
‘The fan response to the Mega Shark franchise has been rabid,’ said The Asylum partner Paul Bales. ‘In addition to a very persuasive online petition, we found that Mega Shark has taken on a life of her own.

Directors: Noboru Iguchi, Yoshihiro Nishimura and Tak Sakaguchi.
Writers: Noboru Iguchi (story), and Jun Tsugita (screenplay).
Cast: Naoto Takenaka, Yumi Sugimoto, Yûko Takayama and Suzuka Morita.
The people behind Sushi Typhoon are at "it" again, and this time the directorial team of Noboru Iguchi, Yoshihiro Nishimura and Tak Sakaguchi created a product that's more digestible. Instead of one attractive female lead, there are three, and each director handled a segment of this movie. After a Charlie's Angel style introduction, this movie moves back in time to show how the Mutant Girls Squad formed.
Rin (Yumi Sugimoto) is an unassuming teen who is simply being bullied at school. After she celebrates her 16th birthday, her parents reveal that she is a mutant, a Hiruko that can manifest body armour or extra body parts. Her father is pure stock and mother a human, and that can lead to some interesting results when puberty almost changes her.

Can't get enough of those mutant girls? Neither can director Noboru Iguchi, apparently. With the Japanese DVD release for Mutant Girls Squad just around the corner Iguchi has shot an Mgs prequel short film. Titled Yoshie Zero it focuses on Suzuka Morita's character from the feature, though it appears that Tak Sakaguchi features pretty large in it as well. Toei Video have just released a trailer for this and you can find all the tentacle action you can handle embedded below.

Spotted Productions has posted three short making-of clips for Mutant Girls Squad, which opened at Theater N Shibuya on May 22nd. The X-Men-inspired action/gore film was co-directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura, Tak Sakaguchi, and Noboru Iguchi and will get its international premiere this July in a co-presentation between the New York Asian Film Festival and Japan Cuts Festival of Contemporary Japanese Cinema.
