Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from the entire first season of “Dead Boy Detectives,” now streaming on Netflix.
The Dead Boy Detectives may have closed the case of Port Townsend, but they don’t jump back through the mirror to merry old London the same boys they once were.
In the Season 1 finale of Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Dead Boy Detectives” comic books, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri) find themselves in the well-manicured clutches of resident witch Esther (Jenn Lyon), who is hellbent on bottling the youthful elixir she brews from the anguish attached to Edwin’s soul from his decades of torture in Hell. Pesky witches, always trying to steal childhood trauma for their skin care routine.
But with the help of Crystal (Kassius Nelson), who has restored her rather unwelcome memories of being a horrible person, and Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), the sweetest soul ever to exist,...

In theory, Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives should be a feast for the misery wraiths, faceless creatures who feed on pain and suffering. The ghostly protagonists, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), are both teenagers bullied to death at the same British boarding school seven decades apart. They spend their time finding closure for other lost souls, like a pair of high schoolers cut down in their prime or a family slaughtered by an abusive patriarch. And they’re constantly on the run from the agents of Death, who would condemn Edwin to Hell on a technicality.
Yet the duo only ever encounter one such monster over the eight-episode first season, and perhaps that’s because despite its gloomy-sounding premise, Dead Boy Detectives is the furthest thing from dour. Dark, sure; bittersweet, sometimes. But it’s never less than entertaining, thanks to an appealingly quirky lead cast and a cheeky sense of humor.

Sometimes the past just won’t let you go. In Netflix’s “Dead Boy Detectives,” ghosts wreak havoc and reckon with unfinished business, and it’s up to Edwin Payne (George Rextrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) to help them move on. The best friends are also a formidable detective agency where Edwin provides “the brains” and Charles provides “the brawn.”

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation featuring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s pricey space opera and a paranormal detective show set within Neil Gaiman’s celebrated Sandman universe are among the big titles hitting Netflix in April.
Debuting April 4 is Ripley, Netflix’s glossy new take on Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Fresh from the critical acclaim he received for All of Us Strangers, Irish actor Andrew Scott will be inhabiting the role of Tom Ripley in an adaptation that will be screened in black-and-white. The eight-episode series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. Written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, Ripley was originally set for release on Showtime before it found a new home on Netflix.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is an upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, based on DC Comics characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The show follows Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, who opt to stay on Earth investigating supernatural crimes instead of entering the afterlife.
Initially announced in 2021 as a spinoff of ‘Doom Patrol’ on HBO, the series switched to Netflix in February 2023. The decision was reportedly due to conflicts with the vision for HBO Max’s DC Universe by DC Studios’ co-CEOs and marketing constraints. Neil Gaiman confirmed on April 20, 2023, that the series would share a universe with ‘The Sandman.’
After much anticipation, the show finally has a release date set for April 25, 2024, which is just over a month away. It’s close enough to start feeling excited! You can also view the latest official photos of the show.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is a new and upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, adapted from the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The series will be focusing on Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine who decided to refuse to enter the afterlife and focus on investigating crimes caused by supernatural means on Earth.
The show was first announced in 2021 when HBO ordered a pilot for the series, the show was meant to be a spinoff of ‘Doom Patrol.’ The series transferred rights from HBO Max to Netflix in February 2023. This move was reportedly influenced by conflicts with DC Studios’ co-CEOs’ vision for the DC Universe on HBO Max and the platform’s marketing constraints. Neil Gaiman later affirmed on April 20, 2023, that the series would exist within the same universe as his other hit show, ‘The Sandman.’

Once set up at the Max streaming service, the TV series Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on characters Neil Gaiman created for DC Comics in the pages of The Sandman issue #25, is now calling Netflix its home, having moved away from Max last year because it “doesn’t fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the Dcu.” Today, Variety was able to confirm that Netflix has set an April 25th premiere date for the show.
Since these characters were introduced in the comic book The Sandman, it seems fitting that they ended up on Netflix, as the streamer is also home to the live-action The Sandman series.
George Rexstrew, making his screen debut, and Jayden Revri of The Lodge play the title characters in Dead Boy Detectives. The third lead of the show will be Kassius Nelson of Last Night in Soho. The eight...

Having brought The Sandman successfully to screens (at least the initial chunk; :a[another season has been commissioned]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/news/the-sandman-renewed-for-season-2/' }), Netflix is staying in the Neil Gaiman business by plucking another project based on his work, Dead Boy Detectives, from the howling limbo void of turnaround. Originally developed at Warner Bros. Stateside streaming service Max (back when it was still known as HBO Max), but punted when it was determined not to fit in with James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios plans (the comics originated at Vertigo).
Created by Gaiman alongside artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III for The Sandman #25, the story follows a pair of ghostly detectives as they investigate murders related to the supernatural, exploring loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), two dead teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson...

Things at Warner Bros. Discovery are unstable right now, as their recent shelving of "Coyote Vs. Acme" for the quick boost of a tax write-off shows. As a result, Steve Yockey ("The Flight Attendant") might be breathing a sigh of relief that his series, "Dead Boy Detectives," was shopped around to Netflix.
The series is a DC Comics property, however, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but didn't fit with James Gunn and Peter Safran's new plans at DC Studios. Originally intended to be a spin-off of the Max original series "Doom Patrol," it will instead be set in the same universe as Netflix's "The Sandman," the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Vertigo comic. The Dead Boy Detectives, Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, first appeared in "The Sandman" issue #25. True to their name, they're a pair of dead boys who decided to stay on Earth investigating crimes instead of leaving for the afterlife.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Teaser: George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri Play Ghosts Solving Mysteries (Video)
DC Comics drama “Dead Boy Detectives” has officially moved from Max to Netflix, and Netflix unveiled the first official teaser for the series.
In a first look at the Greg Berlanti-produced series, George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as dead teenagers Edwin Payne and Charles Rowlan. Not only are Edwin and Charles best friends who met following their deaths, they are also business partners running the Dead Boy Detective Agency.
“We are the Dead Boy Detective Agency — he’s the brains and I’m the brawn,” Revri’s Charles says in the teaser, referring to Edwin. “We’re ghosts and we solve mysteries.”
“We’re pretty bang-on detectives, when we’re not hiding from death,” one of the detectives adds.
The friends do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself, according to the official logline, while employing the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal...

Netflix has offered up the first peeks at its upcoming Dead Boy Detectives series.
The show, based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, best friends — and ghosts — who help solve paranormal cases in the mortal realm.
At Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives will be part of the Sandman universe (the characters were introduced in Gaiman’s Sandman comics in the early 1990s) — but the series took a winding road to get there. It was initially developed for Max as part of the streamer’s former plans for its DC Universe, with Edwin and Charles making an appearance (although played by different actors) in season three of Doom Patrol.
Max (then HBO Max) ordered it to series in April 2022, but after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reset the DC universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran,...

The “Dead Boy Detectives” series is officially set to air on Netflix after originally being set up at Max.
The show, based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, was originally ordered to series at Max back in April 2022. However, it was reported earlier this year that it would be moving to Netflix due to the fact it did not fit the new direction for Max-DC content being spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The official description for the eight-episode series states, “Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. “Based on a true story” has become one of the most overused (and misleading) labels of our time. Still, its application to “Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose” is duly warranted — and no less ridiculous for being so. The “true events” drawn on here remain dumbfounding: In the 1930s, a family living in a farmhouse on the Isle of Man claimed they played frequent host to an octogenarian mongoose from New Delhi whose mysterious powers were hardly limited to human speech. This tale attracted considerable interest from tabloids, tourists and investigators over several years’ course. Belief persisted despite all kinds of doubt-casting evidence, not least the daughter’s admitted talent for ventriloquism.
It’s the kind of wonderfully bizarre anecdote one imagines can hardly miss in screen depiction. Yet somehow it does just that in U.S. writer-director Adam Sigal’s U.K.-produced third feature, itself the sort of...

"This is an inexplicable farce!" Saban Films + Paramount have revealed an official trailer for an adventure thriller titled Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose, arriving in US theaters to watch starting this September. A (possibly?) true tale set in 1935 , Hungarian-American para-psychologist Nandor Fodor began his investigation of a strange occurrence on the Isle of Man. An average British family, the Irvings, claimed to have been contacted by a mysterious entity at their farm – a talking mongoose named Gef (pronounced "Jeff"). Huh, okay, this is peculiar... Simon Pegg stars as the titular Nandor Fodor, with a cast including Christopher Lloyd, Minnie Driver, Paul Kaye, Ruth Connell, Tim Downie, Gary Beadle, plus Edmund Kingsley as Houdini and Neil Gaiman as the voice of Gef. It seems like a clever parable about "faith" and religion, at least from what I can glean from this trailer. Are these people lying? Is there really a talking mongoose?...

While Hollywood continues to stall under the ongoing strike, mystery fans have something to look forward to this September. Paramount Pictures and Saban Films are thrilled to share the Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose trailer, teasing a peculiar case that will have you questioning everything you see and hear. Adam Signal directs from a script he wrote about strange happenings on the Isle of Man circa 1935.
In the Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose trailer, a Hungarian-American para-psychologist, Nandor Fodor (Simon Pegg), begins investigating a strange occurrence in a distinctive community. An average British family, the Irvings, claims to have been contacted by a mysterious entity at their farm named Gef (pronounced “Jeff”), a talking mongoose. As Nandor Fodor falls deeper down the rabbit hole of Gef’s existence and whereabouts on the property, uncertainty, and madness take hold as things spiral out of control.

Supernatural is long gone — The CW’s horror hit ended with a tear-jerking finale in 2020 — but its spirit lives on in…Wordle? Yep, it’s true. Besides hanging out whenever they can at fan conventions, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Rob Benedict, Ruth Connell, Richard Speight Jr., and Misha Collins have found a way to carry on — and compete — through the online word-guessing game. “We text each other our Wordle results every day!” says Collins, who played trench coat-wearing angel Castiel on the show for 12 seasons. He’ll have a little less time for word games, though, now that he’s playing Two-Face, one of Batman’s most tragic villains, in the new DC Universe-set drama Gotham Knights. Ironically, the 48-year-old actor was of two minds about taking on the dual role of upstanding D.A. Harvey Dent and his turned-evil disfigured alter ego. Besides wondering if he was right for the job,...

More changes are afoot at the revamped DC Studios. As part of the ongoing strategy shift at the Warner Bros. unit now led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the upcoming supernatural mystery series “Dead Boy Detectives” is moving from HBO Max, where it was originally set up, to Netflix, where it joins “The Sandman,” another show based on a comic series by writer Neil Gaiman. The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
“Dead Boy Detectives” is an eight-episode series executive-produced by Greg Berlanti, who oversees the now winding-down Arrowverse TV franchise, with “The Flight Attendant” EP Steve Yockey and “Arrow” writer Beth Schwartz serving as showrunners. The pilot was directed by Lee Toland Krieger (“Shadow and Bone”). DC’s Dead Boy Detectives will do its snooping on a different streamer. Reports indicate the drama is moving from HBO Max, where the show was developed, to Netflix. Sources say the show is changing venues because it doesn’t fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the Dcu. The duo is retooling the DC’s representation across film, television, and video games, ensuring all the pieces fit together to create a cohesive universe of content. The duo’s plans include five inter-connected shows and Peacemaker on HBO Max. At the very least, Dead Boy Detectives is moving to another platform instead of being canceled.
The Dead Boys Detectives series revolves around Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead British teenagers, and their alive friend, Crystal Palace. A press release from HBO Max described it as “a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.

Dead Boy Detectives is moving platforms.
The DC drama based on the Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner comics has been sold from HBO Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed streamer that developed the show, to Netflix. Producers Warner Bros. Television shopped the drama after sources say the series didn’t fit with the new chapter of content that DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are building for the comic book powerhouse. That plan includes five inter-connected shows that will live alongside Peacemaker on HBO Max. Also contributing to the show’s move between platforms is the fact that HBO Max would not have been able to market the show until 2024, with execs at the streamer blessing producers to take the show out elsewhere.
Reps for Netflix, Warners and Berlanti did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.
