It’s back to th U.K. for Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex, 39, is traveling to England for the Invictus Games anniversary. According to a royal expert, however, a friendly reception from his father, King Charles III, isn’t guaranteed. That is if the two have a meeting during Harry’s visit.

After much speculation, it’s been confirmed Harry is indeed visiting London, England, to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The father of two founded the sporting competition for wounded and injured soldiers in 2014. Since then, it’s become a staple on his calendar. (He and Meghan Markle are known to attend the Games together.)

Prince Harry’s going to London, England, but a visit with his father, King Charles III, may not happen. Why? Because the 75-year-old monarch may reportedly be too “busy” for a sit down. Ahead, what’s on the agenda for King Charles as his youngest son, the Duke of Sussex, prepares to mark 10 years of the Invictus Games.
Harry may not see ‘quite busy’ King Charles on his Invictus anniversary visit to London
Harry and the king will be in the same city at the same time come May. Harry’s traveling from his and Meghan Markle’s home in Montecito, California, to England.
There, he’ll take part in a service at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral, marking 10 years of the Invictus Games, the sporting competition for wounded and injured soldiers he launched in 2014.

Chicago – It’s difficult to imagine an awards season without Clint Eastwood. Ever since 2003’s “Mystic River,” he’s released all of his directorial efforts during the last months of the year. Sometimes his films deserve to be contenders (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Letters From Iwo Jima”), and sometimes they don’t. “Invictus” is Eastwood’s most unimaginative Oscar bait yet.
Morgan Freeman is the perfect actor to play Nelson Mandela…too perfect, in fact. There must be countless great actors, unknown to mainstream moviegoers, who could’ve knocked this role out of the park. Freeman is certainly one of our great actors, but he’s played this type of wise, contemplative, larger-than-life role so often that it’s become a cliché. When he played God in “Bruce Almighty,” the casting seemed inevitable. That may be why Mandela himself couldn’t think of any actor to play himself onscreen, other than Freeman.

Clint Eastwood's tribute to Nelson Mandela peddles the dangerous modern myth that we are 'captains of our souls'
Were the Victorian versifier William Ernest Henley to come among us once more, he might be agreeably surprised. His 16-line poem Invictus wasn't even published until 13 years after he wrote it, and wasn't given its title (by someone else) for another 12. Now, however, its final couplet has become an axiom of the age, providing a guiding precept for figures as diverse as Nelson Mandela, Andre Agassi, Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh, Gordon Brown and even one of Buffy's pre-eminent Watchers.
Yet its message is blatant nonsense. "I am the master of my fate", it tells us. If you're a globally worshipped demigod who's rescued his country from apartheid, maybe this seems so. Many of that country's township dwellers who would like their fate to include a job, a house and running water might be less easily convinced.

Invictus isn’t a word I’d ever heard before and until watching the movie, I had no idea what it was or meant. Well, let me tell you! Invictus is a poem written by William Ernest Henley (1849–1903) which becomes the backbone for reuniting a country when it was on the brink of collapse. Borrowing the poem’s name Clint Eastwood’s new movie takes us through that journey about how a man who was a prisoner becomes the president of his country to lead and unite it in a way that no one thought possible.
Invictus the movie is based on the book by John Carlin (Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation) and stars Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and the movie begins with stock news bulletins from the 90s which show him being released from prison, and then moving on to showing...

I'm wary of poetry in cinema, the same way I'm wary of it in general. Characters quoting verse at one another make my toes curl
Invictus, Clint Eastwood's new film, is named after a poem by William Ernest Henley, who wrote it in 1875 to lift up his spirits after having a leg amputated. Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman) quotes the lines, "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul" as a source of uplift and inspiration, and it's just a shame for everyone concerned that the same poem was chosen as a pre-execution statement by Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber.
Henley's not the only Victorian poet whose work has provided memorable but, to the uninitiated, slightly baffling titles. Even if you've never heard of Ernest Dowson, you'll be familiar with at least two of his phrases: Gone with the Wind and Days of Wine and Roses.

It was a game that changed a nation forever. In the new film Invictus (2009) Morgan Freeman plays legendary peace maker Nelson Mandela, the President of South Africa, whose will to bring victory to his people began with a rugby match. Matt Damon plays Francios Pienaar, the captain of the 1995 South African rugby team that united a nation with their powerful team spirit and vest for victory. After being released from prison in 1990, Nelson Mandela worked to bring an end to the apartheid that crippled his nation. Upon taking office in 1994, as the President of South Africa, Mandela learned that his greatest problem would be uniting his people. At a Springboks rugby match, the true state of disparity is seen when the blacks in the stadium are cheering against their own white team. With South Africa set to host the 1995 Rugby World Cup, Mandela turned to Springboks captain Francios Pienaar. Mandela...

“Invictus” is Latin for “undefeated” and comes from a poem by William Ernest Henley. Henley was twenty-six and confined to a hospital bed when he wrote the poem; his leg had been amputated just below the knee due to tuberculosis of the bone. Henley wrote the poem to state that despite a crippling and potentially life-ending situation, he would be unbowed and would bounce back stronger than ever before. The country of South Africa was in a similar period of recovery in the mid-1990’s. With apartheid having just been put to an end and Nelson Mandela elected to the office of the President. Mandela had served twenty-seven years in prison for being a leader of the anti-apartheid movement and upon his release was looked upon as a hero from anti-apartheid groups both in and out of the country…read more [411mania.com]

Much like Clint Eastwood’s film directing career (and, I guess, the same could be said for his acting career, as well), Invictus, the latest film directed by the Dirty Harry star, works in fits and starts, crests and troughs that characterize the film as uneven at its worst times and incredibly powerful at its best.
Deep within its contours lies a moving story of Nelson Mandela, played by Morgan Freeman, in his early years as President of South Africa. Mandela was a member of a people so mistreated during apartheid that it shocked and amazed everyone when he made the proclamation that his country was moving forward, no recourse or even ill will, for that matter, would stop him from bringing the once-established glory back to his country. Bubbling up and out from this and giving the film the rousing edge that very nearly feels misplaced is the story of the Springboks,...

Invictus Warner Bros. Pictures I once read the films Clint Eastwood directed weren't big box office draws, but they did grab the attention of those handing out the Oscars. That might be true for some of his past projects, but Invictus throws that stereotype out the window. It's definitely his best film yet and, although it definitely will garner Oscar attention and praise, it will capture the fans at the box office as well. Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon together are a treat for moviegoers. It's probably the best combination of actors with a director whose careear spans decades. No matter what others might say about Eastwood's past successes, he can hang his hat on Invictus for sure. It's an awe-inspiring story that'll shake audiences to the core with its universal themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, hope, restoration and change. Following the true story of Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman...

Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon in Invictus
Photo: Warner Bros. Clint Eastwood's most recent late year addition to the world of film is Invictus, an uplifting story of how Nelson Mandela used South Africa's rugby team as the catalyst to unite their country following the end of apartheid. Unable to avoid racial trappings, Invictus manages to walk the line particularly well using Mandela's security team, the almost all-white Springbok rugby squad and a divided nation to tell its story.
The title of the film comes from a short poem written by William Earnest Henley, which Mandela used as inspiration during his 27 years in prison. However, the film itself is based on the book "Playing The Enemy" written by John Carlin. Scripted by Anthony Peckham (Don't Say a Word) the film deftly bounces between the work of South Africa's newly elected President Mandela as played by Morgan Freeman and...

Director: Clint Eastwood Writer(s): Anthony Peckham (screenplay), John Carlin (book) "Playing The Enemy: Nelson Mandela And The Game That Changed a Nation" Starring: Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon Taken from the title of a poem by William Ernest Henley, Invictus (Latin for “unconquered”) follows the early days of Nelson Mandela's presidency of South Africa and his struggle to bring a racially segregated nation together. Upon entering office, Mandela (Morgan Freeman) is drawn to the athletic plight of the Springboks, the South African national union rugby team. At the same time, the Springboks team captain, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon) is searching for his own motivation for a struggling team. Brought together by a rather unlikely connection, the two men forge a friendship, and strive to bring about change amid the lingering racial unease of a new South Africa. There is something to be said about the unifying power of sports. Perfect strangers chant in harmony and share in the excitement of competition, celebrating each win as a team and lamenting the losses as a unit. There is nothing quite like witnessing your team claim a deserved victory after a roller coaster ride of support spanning months, years, and sometimes decades.
It is this positive energy director Clint Eastwood hoped to harness in Invictus, a story of how the newly-elected Nelson Mandela believed in the cohesive capabilities of national sport and publicly cheered for the South African Springbok’s in the Rugby World Cup, against the recommendations of his advisers.
Aside from a nuanced performance by Morgan Freeman as Mandela and the solid turn by Matt Damon as team captain Francois Pienaar, the film is a banal, often dull, re-telling of select events. Eastwood glosses over the country’s...

Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, and Francois Pienaar held a press conference for their new film "Invictus." The title Invictus comes from a poem written by poet William Ernest Henley in 1875. It was this poem which inspired Nelson Mandela to have hope for a wounded nation while imprisoned on Robben Island. The film centers around the newly elected Mandela, a racially and economically split nation, and Mandela's struggle in uniting his people through sport during the 1995 World Cup of rugby. In this press conference Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, and Francois Pienaar (the actual Rugby star which the film is based on), talk about how they prepared on playing real people, working with director Clint Eastwood, about rugby and on set injuries, on why the story was so important that it had to be told. Francois Pineaar also elaborated on his thoughts on the film, his relationship with Nelson Mandela, and...
