There are only flashes of footage, but the text onscreen says, “The deadliest year” with shots of blood and a club filled with scantily clad people. Are we about to see an AIDS-centric 1980s-set season of “AHS?”

Back in February FX Chairman John Landgraf confirmed to The Wrap that season 11 returns the franchise to a single story after season 10’s double feature. “It actually takes place in different timelines but it’s one subject, one story, with a beginning, middle and an end, like many of the prior stories,” said Landgraf.

Nearly 400 directors have signed a statement of solidarity with the showrunners’ letter demanding abortion protections from networks, studios and streamers a week and a half ago.
There are now nearly 1,500 writers and directors presenting a united front in asking Hollywood’s employers to help provide abortion access in states where it is now illegal. On July 28, more than 400 female, trans and non-binary TV creators and showrunners sent a letter to the likes of Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal and Netflix asking them to craft explicit policies to protect employees seeking abortions, particularly those working on productions in states where the procedure is now or soon will be prohibited following the Supreme Court’s ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson. On Aug. 1, nearly 600 of their male counterparts signed a statement of support.
The original letter demanded that companies furnish a written policy of their current abortion safety plan within 10 days.

Like the Emmys’ Best Drama Directing category, there have not been a lot of individual female winners in Best Drama Writing. Only five solo women have ever won before — slightly better than the three female drama directing champs — but just like the directing race this year, there are three chances for another woman to join the drama writing winner’s circle.
Yahlin Chang (“Home” from “The Handmaid’s Tale“), Misha Green (“Sundown” from “Lovecraft Country”) and Rebecca Sonnenshine (“What I Know” from “The Boys”) are all individually nominated this year for their scripts. There are other two female nominees, Janet Mock and Our Lady J, but they share their bid for the “Pose” series finale with co-writers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuck and Steve Canals. The other nominees are solo dudes: Peter Morgan (“War” from “The Crown”), Jon Favreau (“Chapter 16: The Rescue” from “The Mandalorian”) and Dave Filoni (“Chapter 13: The...

The series finale of “Pose” Sunday night has evoked some bittersweet feelings from the iconic show’s co-creator, writer and director, Steven Canals. Reflecting on its significance in breaking barriers for LGBTQ and people of color in representation on-screen and paving the way ahead for others, he tells TheWrap, “‘Pose’ was not just a moment; ‘Pose’ is a movement.”

Now with ‘Pose’ ending, I would hope that all the content creators of the world would say, ‘Ok, you know, this show is ending, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t get to have our stories anymore,'” Canals said. “There are so many narratives within our community that need to be told. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the series finale of “Pose.”
In the end, the series finale of “Pose” left it all on the ballroom floor.
Staying true to its aspirational and uplifting storytelling nature while still never shying away from the reality of being Lgbtqia+ and living with HIV/AIDS in the 1980s and ’90s New York, the supersized series finale of FX’s ballroom culture drama balanced moments of pure joy with true heartbreak. On the former side of the spectrum there, Pray Tell (Billy Porter) and Ricky (Dyllón Burnside) reconnected and Elektra (Dominique Jackson) bestowed legendary status on Blanca (Mj Rodriguez), while on the latter Blanca and Pray struggled to get into a clinical trial for a new cocktail of meds and ultimately Pray sacrificed himself for Ricky and passed away.

President Donald Trump gets eaten by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-ky) for a good cause. No, really. It’s for a good cause.
John Cameron Mitchell, best known for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” premiered the music video for “New American Dream,” the title track to the director’s upcoming benefit album, on Tuesday. Proceeds from the album will be given to Burritos Not Bombs, Transgender Gender-Variant and Intersex Justice Project and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Trust Fund.

“Pose” star Billy Porter just scored his second consecutive Emmy nomination for his performance as emcee Pray Tell. Last year, the multi-talented actor made history as the first openly gay Black man to win the Emmy for Best Drama Actor, stating in his acceptance speech that he was “overwhelmed and overjoyed” to have lived to see the day. What makes it extra special for Porter is to have won with material that comes from an authentic place. “The gratitude to be living in a time where this particular story can be told in this mainstream way is such a gift,” says Porter, in an exclusive interview with Gold Derby before this year’s nominations. “It’s such a blessing.”

Exclusive: New Regency will redevelop Rub & Tug into a TV series, with the pilot to be written by Emmy-nominated writer-producer Our Lady J. There is also a commitment to cast a trans actor to play the show’s lead role of Dante “Tex” Gill, the infamous transgender gangster who became an unlikely major figure in the criminal underworld of ’70s Pittsburgh.
When Deadline first broke news that New Regency had won a script auction for Gill’s story with Scarlett Johansson attached to play Gill and Rupert Sanders directing, an outcry followed in the LGBTQ+ community, and the ensuing pressure prompted the exit of Johansson — who had previously been maligned for the Sanders-directed Japanese anime adaptation Ghost in the Shell.

Steven Canals, the co-creator and producer behind FX’s “Pose,” felt it necessary to take the show to a deeper and darker place in Season 2. A large part of the season centers on the HIV/AIDS epidemic that plagued New York City in 1990, leading many characters like Pray Tell (Billy Porter) to become more active in standing up for their right to live. “There’s a lot more politics I think embedded in the narrative this season and that certainly was intentional on our part,” Canals states in an exclusive new interview with Gold Derby. “I would be remiss if I didn’t say that we, obviously, as a writers’ room, were paying attention to the current administration so I think a lot of the policies that have recently gone into place and the ways that Lgbtq people have been targeted by this current administration certainly lent itself to us...

RuPaul’s current TV diet is a mix of new shows like the second season of “Big Little Lies,” and classics like “Mission Impossible.” But when asked to choose a favorite TV episode of all time, RuPaul immediately gravitated to one from “The Golden Girls.”
“The writing on ‘The Golden Girls’ is so brilliant,” he said. Visibility, advocacy, and hope were the big themes Saturday at the 30th annual GLAAD awards, which saw the largest attendance that the ceremony has ever seen with more than 1,300 guests.
Madonna was honored with the Advocate for Change Award. She started by saying that 2019 is a “monumental year,” remembering the Stonewall riots which happened 50 years ago and sparked a revolutionary “outcry.”
“Why have I always had a want for change? It’s a hard question to answer,” she said. “It’s like trying to explain the importance of breathing, or the need to love.”
She talked about feeling like an outsider until she met her ballet teacher, Christoper Flynn, who died of AIDS in 1990. This mentor helped her get to New York, where she blossomed and found acceptance within the Lgbtq community. When the community’s artistry was clouded by the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic, she saw it as an opportunity for advocacy.

The mood was unrepentantly positive at the Television Academy’s panel “Writing Lgbtqia Love and Romance on TV,” held April 30 at Saban Media Center in North Hollywood, as creatives gathered to discuss what it means to craft meaningful and nuanced Lgbtq+ love stories in the modern TV landscape.
Moderated by former “Army Wives” writer Rob Forman, the producers and writers on the panel seemed content to focus primarily on the positive, praising Peak TV and the surplus of content providers for allowing for more and more diverse lives – and romances – to be depicted.
“I get so excited creating stuff in 2019,” executive producer and writer of Netflix’s upcoming “Tales of the City” revival Lauren Morelli said. “There’s such a community and we’re all so desperate for representation. I think the more people that are getting to tell our stories, the more space there is to tell really specific stories.

Updated, 11:15 Am: FX said today that Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s Pose will premiere on Tuesday, June 11 — two days later than originally announced. The network didn’t cite a reason for moving the return date but said the series that aired on Sundays during its rookie season will move to Tuesdays for S2. It’s notable that HBO last week set the Season 2 premiere of its Emmy-winning drama Big Little Lies for Sunday, June 9 — the date that FX had set on April 8 for Pose‘s return.
Previously, April 8: The ballroom is nearly ready to reopen. FX said today that its Ryan Murphy drama series Pose will return for Season 2 at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9.
The show explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society: the underground ball culture, the rise of the Trump-era luxury universe and the downtown social and literary scene that came to define New York in the 1980s.

“Pose” Season 2 has been slated for a summer premiere at FX.
The 10-episode second season of the Ryan Murphy drama is set to return on Sunday, June 9.
As Murphy previously teased, the new season will flash forward in time to 1990 — to the day that Madonna’s hit single “Vogue” was first released. On the heels of the ballroom community establishing itself in pop culture and going mainstream, the show’s central House of Evangelista will be forced to reevaluate their goals. The new time period will see the new season set in the heart of the AIDS crisis worsens, with the reaction from a group of activists reaching a fever pitch.

“It really came from, as someone who previously in another life worked in higher education, assessing the television landscape and asking myself that question, ‘who are we not seeing represented on television?’ We weren’t seeing black and brown people who also happen to be queer and trans,” Pose co-creator Steven Canals said at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys on Sunday.
Canals was joined producers and writers Janet Mock and Our Lady J to speak about the history-making FX series.
The first to feature a largely transgender series-regular cast as well as being the largest Lgbtq cast ever for a scripted show, Pose is set in the 1980s and looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the Trump-era luxury universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.

Ryan Murphy is an industry veteran, and his experience shone as he moderated the “Pose” PaleyFest panel Saturday night. Alternating between personal insights and newsy revelations, the co-creator and executive producer of FX’s groundbreaking drama got the most out of his time in Dolby Theater.
On the news front, Murphy revealed the setting of Season 2 as well as some new cast members. “Season 2 is very exciting,” Murphy said. “It starts in 1990 — the day Madonna releases ‘Vogue,’ and along with our wonderful [returning] cast, we have wonderful additions. Sandra Bernhard is a series regular.”
“Pose” Season 1 took place in 1987 and 1988. Dominique Jackson summed up the cast’s position — who were surprised by every announcement of the night — when she said, “I have no idea what’s going on, but for Season 2 I honestly trust in the writing and realize that sometimes we have to let go.”

Category is: PaleyFest groundbreaking television realness! On Saturday night the cast and creators of FX’s critically acclaimed series Pose slayed the stage and received 10s across the board (literally with signs in the audience) for their sickening looks but also top marks for their wildly insightful conversation about the show and some juicy details about season 2 — including an icon who is set to join the cast as a guest star.
After screening episode six of the first season titled “Love is the Message”, co-creator Ryan Murphy, who served as moderator, told Pose star Mj Rodriguez, a hardcore Broadway fan, that she shares a lot of scenes with a new addition to the cast this season: the one and only Patti LuPone. Rodriguez was gagged and Murphy also told Billy Porter, who is no stranger to Broadway, that he would also be sharing plenty of scenes with the legend. No...
