"I know what's going to happen... every detail of it." Sp Releasing has debuted an official trailer for another Ya it-super-sucks-to-be-teen-these-days film titled Anthem of a Teenage Prophet, adapted from a novel originally titled "Anthem of a Reluctant Prophet". The extra sappy story is about a teenager who realizes he has the power of premonition, and freaks out when he predicts the death of one of his friends. Dubbed the "Prophet of Death" by the media, Luke experiences more death flashes that become reality. Terrified by his new ability, Luke gets a prescription for a powerful sedative, which stops the visions for a while, but soon they—and his general disillusionment with life—return. Cameron Monaghan stars as Luke, with Peyton List, Juliette Lewis, Grayson Gabriel, Aaron Pearl, Richard de Klerk, and Alex MacNicoll. The kid really has the perfect emo look, with that long hair, darting eyes, and everything.

Sp Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Anthem of a Teenage Prophet, a supernatural coming-of-age drama starring Shameless‘ Cameron Monaghan, Disney Channel regular Peyton List and Juliette Lewis. A day-and-date theatrical release is set for January 11.
Based on Joanne Proulx’s Ya novel and directed by first-time feature helmer Robin Hays, the story set in 1997 Michigan follows Luke (Monaghan), a teenager who foresees the death of his best friend. When this premonition becomes reality, he must deal with the trials and tribulations of being dubbed “The Prophet of Death” and a freak around town. It doesn’t help that he’s fallen in love with Faith (List), his best friend’s girlfriend. Lewis plays Luke’s mother who helps him navigate his unique challenges.
Grayson Gabriel, Danny Woodburn, Alex MacNicoll and Spencer List co-star. Sepia Films’ Tina Pehme and Kim Roberts are producers, and Handpicked Ventures’ Michel Shane executive produced with Darren Benning.

New IFC Midnight movies are coming to home media this June from the fine folks over at Scream Factory, including the Devil’s Gate, which is set in North Dakota with twists galore, as well as The Midnight Man, starring Robert Englund.
From Scream Factory: “We are pleased to announce that we have two new IFC Midnight films planned for release on Blu-ray & DVD this June!
Devil’S Gate – Amanda Schull (12 Monkeys), Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men) and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation) star in this unnerving, edge-of-your-seat thriller that "keeps executing its euphoric bacchanal of bizarre plot points" (Paste) until its final twisted reveal.
What unholy force lies locked away in this crumbling, booby-trapped, middle-of-nowhere farmhouse? When a woman and her son mysteriously vanish, FBI agent Daria Francis (Schull) is dispatched to the small town of Devil's Gate, North Dakota to investigate the...

Terrified teenagers and Robert Englund go together like peas and carrots, so it’s reassuring to see that this clip from the upcoming Midnight Man promises some real old school horror thrills to come when it opens later this month. Not to mention that, fortunately for the teenagers, Englund isn’t the titular midnight man, but rather a Loomis-like veteran providing exposition on the spooky goings-on. He’ll also likely die horribly at the beginning of the third act.
As for the footage here, which is pulled from the opening scene, it depicts three friends “calling upon the Midnight Man. As long as they stay in the circle they’ll be safe,” but things don’t go according to plan. Unfortunately for them, the game turns out to be a summoning ritual for a demonic presence hellbent on subjecting them to their greatest fears, then murdering them. Their only chance...

As for the trailer, it appears to show a kind of horror take on Jumanji, with a bunch of teenagers finding the remnants of a game that began 50 years ago and ended with the mysterious disappearance (or death) of one of the players. Unfortunately for them, the game turns out to be a summoning ritual for a demonic presence hellbent on subjecting them to their deepest fears, then murdering them.
