Google, it is reported, offers employees gourmet dining experiences on its campus. Apple, meanwhile, hired Stevie Wonder to play for its workforce. If the BBC is considering introducing a new employee perk to energise its staff, I’d like to suggest complimentary couples counselling. After the critically acclaimed misery of Stefan Golaszewski’s Marriage last month, comes the lighter companion piece, Stuck, a sitcom about the claustrophobia of cohabitation.
Dylan Moran is Dan, a recently laid-off jingle writer struggling to get his life back on track. Morgana Robinson is his long-term partner, Carla, some sort of new age therapist, pushed into looking after this man, who is a decade her senior. “Is this it?” she asks him. “Just me, flat out, and you farting about like an old fart?” Moran is on safe ground, doing Moran things. He pairs a world-weary cynicism with a skittish energy, not dissimilar to the...

BBC Drama Slate Features Series From ‘Rocks’ Writer Theresa Ikoko & ‘This Is England’s Shane Meadows
The BBC has unveiled its latest drama slate at a virtual event on Tuesday, pulling the curtain back on new series from Rocks writer Theresa Ikoko, This Is England creator Shane Meadows, and the latest female-focused drama from Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films.
Ikoko, who was BAFTA-nominated for Rocks, will adapt Nikki May’s soon-to-be-published debut novel Wahala, which follows three thirty-something Anglo-Nigerian women whose friendship group is infiltrated by the beautiful, charismatic, and super-wealthy Isobel.
Set in London, Isobel’s arrival creates mounting tensions, unravels bonds, and exposes secrets with shocking and tragic consequences. Ikoko said the series is “Big Little Lies meets Girlfriends” and will be an “amazing celebration of Nigerian British culture.”
Wahala is produced by Firebird Pictures, with founder Elizabeth Kilgarriff executive producing alongside the BBC’s Mona Qureshi. BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally.

Exclusive: Scott Rudin is developing a U.S. adaptation of British comedy Mum with UK producer Big Talk Productions. August: Osage County and Killer Joe writer Tracy Letts is writing the remake.
Deadline understands that The Social Network and Moneyball producer won a bidding war for the rights to the Lesley Manville-fronted series ahead of a number of studios and rival producers.
Mum follows Cathy (Manville), a mother who is about to clock 60 and who deals with life’s crossroads in the wake of her husband’s death and turns a new leaf. She’s also surrounded by a zany family who she contends with.
The series, which airs on BritBox in the U.S., also stars Peter Mullan, Sam Swainsbury and Lisa McGrillis. A critical hit in the UK, with a number of BAFTA wins and nominations, the series launched on BBC Two in 2016 and its third season aired earlier this year.

Lesley Manville and Peter Mullan will return in series 2 of Stefan Golaszewski's very funny, very tender sitcom Mum...
Great news for fans of BBC Two's warm-hearted sitcom Mum: Cathy, Michael, Kelly and co. will all be back for a second series.
BBC Two has confirmed that a further six episodes of the beautifully balanced comedy will be filmed in 2017.
The first series, which concluded tonight on BBC Two, spanned a year in the life of the recently widowed Cathy (Lesley Manville). It was a deft combination of subtle human insight, outrageous characters and an involving understated romantic story with terrific performances from Manville and Peter Mullan.
Mum was created by Stefan Golaszewski and shares the single location trick of his previous sitcom Him & Her. Instead of Steve and Becky's messy flat, its episodes take place entirely in Cathy's suburban semi, where she's attempting to...

From the creator of Him & Her, BBC Two comedy Mum returns tonight for its second series starring Lesley Manville and Peter Mullan...
Screenwriters often say their characters are inspired by people they’ve met in real life. If that’s the case for Stefan Golaszewski, he’d better hope that none of them ever watch his shows and recognise themselves. That’s hardly a risk of course. Golaszewski’s best—and by best, I mean worst—comic creations are so lacking in self-awareness they’d never notice the similarities.

Take Laura, the bigoted, self-involved sister of lazy but harmless Becky in Him & Her. You won’t meet a meaner, more judgemental, less-informed person this side of a Daily Mail comments section.

Him & Her creator Stefan Golaszewski has devised a new comedy series for BBC Two.
Mum will star Lesley Manville as a mother in her late 50s, rebuilding her life after the death of her husband.
The creative team behind BBC Three's Him & Her - Golaszewski, director Richard Laxton, producer Lyndsay Robinson and exec producer Kenton Allen - will reunite on the project.
BBC Two has also confirmed a full series of Two Doors Down, based on the one-off that aired in 2013 about a Scottish family, their friends and neighbours.
The third and final comedy announced by the broadcaster is Stag - a darkly comic three-parter from Jim Field Smith, producer/director of The Wrong Mans.
Peep Show actor Jim Howick will lead the cast as a meek schoolteacher who struggles to survive the stag weekend from hell.

Quite understandably, column inches can't fill up quickly enough with praise for the likes of Netflix original series House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul and Marvel's Daredevil. What though, about some of the lesser-known series available on the UK streaming site?
Sweeping past the well-publicised riches of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Arrested Development, Community and the like, we've ventured into the slightly dustier shelf of TV shows available on Netflix UK that may be lesser-known or less widely celebrated than the big hitters out there, but are still richly deserving of your time. Some are new, some are old, some were cancelled long ago, some are ongoing, several are from outside the UK and Us.

An Always Sunny-ish new sitcom on BBC Three? Sign us up. Here's Jake's review of Siblings episode 1...
This review contains spoilers.
When you think of most classic sitcom setups, the common theme is of people trapped together against their will. Steptoe And Son, Porridge (literally in that case) and Red Dwarf all explore the relationships of people who have no choice but to spend time in each other's company. Siblings takes a slightly different tack, Hannah and Dan are stuck with each other because no one else in their right mind would want them.
Siblings set up is as simple as its title - brother and sister duo Hannah and Dan are horrible, self obsessed people with practically zero redeeming qualities. Played by Fresh Meat's Charlotte Ritchie and Totally Tom's Tom Stourton, they go through life with zero self awareness or shame, thinking only of themselves. In this...

Him & Her creator Stefan Golaszewski has said that the show "could" return.
The writer explained that he "wanted a little break" from the BBC Three sitcom, which concluded in December after four series.
"I didn't want it to ever go stale or predictable like sitcoms can if you hang on a bit too long," Golaszewski said at last night's Arqiva BAFTA Television Awards 2014.
"It was just that - I didn't want the quality to go down and I didn't want to stop loving what I was doing."
Him & Her was named best Situation Comedy at last night's awards.
Kerry Howard - also nominated for Female Performance In A Comedy Programme - previously told Digital Spy that she would "love to see more" episodes.
Russell Tovey - who played Steve - also voiced his desire for another series or special last year.

We’ve put a spotlight on some of the UK Christmas telly specials you won’t want to miss this festive season…
You know that pub conversation we’ve all had, the one about what you’d show an alien race on the brink of wiping out planet Earth to convince them we are essentially a well-meaning, productive, and often beautiful species that deserves to live? No contest: a Christmas issue of the Radio Times.
In 1969, an astronaut walked on the moon and someone thought up the Christmas Radio Times, both of them landmarks of brilliant stuff achieved by humans. They must have been thinner then - not astronauts, copies of the Radio Times - back when there were fewer TV channels than there are now Shrek films.
Between the covers of that hefty double edition sits the industry and imagination of generations. It...

A Saturday-night pull is the starting point for Stefan Golaszewski's new play, bleakly funny business when presented as forensically as this: a Lynx Africa-scented meeting in a nightclub pre-empting a pantomime grope by the fire exit, then a late-night journey home with only the interior fittings of an N73 bus to fuel conversation.
Russell Tovey and Jaime Winstone play Adam and Grace, our lacklustre couple. Adam tries hard to keep a flicker of eroticism in the night's tryst while Grace giggles and babbles, their progress towards the bedroom surviving a mini-drama over a lost Oyster card, a kebab, later an extended break for teeth brushing and a disagreement over sexy lighting. It starts to feel like an over-extended sketch about the ritual of one-night stands when the story suddenly broadens into something knottier, more sinister. Is that really a genial vacancy in Adam's manner or a deeper misanthropy?...

Jaime Winstone and Russell Tovey are old friends, and about to co-star in a new play about a one-night stand. They talk to Maddy Costa
Like all coincidences, it feels both bizarre and perfectly obvious that Russell Tovey and Jaime Winstone have known each other for years. The two actors spent their adolescence in Essex, though they were hardly neighbours: Tovey grew up in Billericay, and Winstone moved from London to Roydon in her early teens. But he happened to go to the same drama club as Winstone's older sister, Lois. "She's been in my parents' house, in the garden," he says, nodding over his teriyaki lunch at Jaime, a dishevelled figure sitting beside him. "She was so cool. I remember I saw you once in a club, you had a pair of snowboots on, and I thought: 'She knows what she's doing.'"

Are our most popular films, books and TV shows too entrenched in nostalgia? Robert McCrum and Boyd Hilton debate the state of British culture

Tinker Tailor… (cold war nostalgia); the latest episodes of Downton Abbey (Great War nostalgia); the BBC's forthcoming adaptation of Ford Madox Ford's masterpiece, Parade's End (ditto); and the "Great" (Britain) campaign just launched by the prime minister in New York suggest a society apparently fixated on the stories and images of past glory.

In London, Patrick Hamilton's Rope is at the Almeida, the hugely starry Misanthrope with Keira Knightley and Damian Lewis is at the Comedy, Simon Callow is doing his Dickens turn in Dr Marigold and Mr Chips at Riverside Studios, and there's even an Agatha Christie thriller, A Daughter's Daughter, arriving opportunistically at Trafalgar Studios to fill in for a few weeks. Potted Potter, which is silly, hugely enjoyable fun, is in Studio 2. And even in Christmas week there are openings, with the RSC's Twelfth Night arriving at the Novello,...
