Sleepy Hollow Season 1, Episode 8 “Necromancer”
Written by Mark Hoffman and Phillip Iscove
Directed by Paul Edwards
Airs Monday nights at 9pm Et on Fox
After the events of “The Midnight Ride” where Ichabod (Tom Mison), Abbie (Nicole Beharie), and Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) capture and neutralize the Headless Horseman, it seems his threat is over for a while. This isn’t the case as the Horseman’s probing reveal Ichabod’s deepest fears and yet another dark secret from his past. “Necromancer” also explores the idea of free will vs. destiny using the undead cop Andy Brooks (John Cho) and Ichabod’s wife Katrina (Katia Winter) as case studies. Writers Mark Hoffman and Phillip Iscove use both Ichabod and the Horseman’s past to create conflict in this episode while also giving it real thematic resonance. There is also a nice B-plot involving Jenny Mills (Lyndie Greenwood) and Irving as...

Elementary Season 1, Episode 17: “Possibility Two”
Written by Mark Hoffman
Directed by Seith Mann
Airs Thursdays at 10pm (Et) on CBS
So, how do you follow last week’s heartwarming ‘confession’ by a seemingly indifferent detective and the official pairing of Holmes and Watson? As it would appear, you follow it with a somewhat delicious case for the mind. This week, a somewhat impossible genetic poisoning brings together three different cases as Holmes is reluctantly recruited (thanks to an almost-extinct bee) by a troubled millionaire.
Even though the relationship between the two characters is well established ground by now, the interactions between Holmes and Watson remain intriguing. As he puts her to the test at every turn, she is obviously looking to score brownie points from the master while trying to avoid looking like an idiot. Putting together a model of a man-made chemical; being sent to a curious-looking dry...

Billed as the final film in the series, Saw 3D is the first of the new decade, and though its hardly worse than the sequels that preceded it, it is looking more and more out of step with the times. Despite its detractors being that much louder than any of its fans, Saw was undeniably the horror franchise most emblematic of the Bush II administration era, in the same way that watching a Nightmare on Elm Street film can’t help but make you think Reagan’s still in office. But whether or not the Saw films will leave the lasting impression that those films remains to be seen, and based on this installment, a more than fair argument could be made that it will not. While the central themes of Saw could scarcely have better embodied the concerns of the last decade, its images and characters haven’t matched it in vitality.

Seven movies in six years. If nothing else, that's an amazing turnaround that the "Saw" franchise should be quite pleased with. Indeed, the seventh entry into the franchise — titled "Saw 3D" — lands in theaters today, once again bringing Jigsaw's terrible torture devices to theatergoers just in time for Halloween!
But after seven films, you'll have to forgive the "Saw" series if it's gotten a little bit, well, convoluted. If you thought it was all about bear trap masks and severed feet, you've been missing out on one heck of a horrifyingly complicated mythology.
But not to worry, we've got your back. After the jump, check out some snapshot synopses of the previous "Saw" films to catch you up in time for "Saw 3D"!

Stop us if you've heard this one: Two men are trapped inside a dilapidated bathroom with instructions to kill the other man, which they must do if they want to survive.

For every large scale tragedy, there are a few unscrupulous individuals who will try to whore it for cash. After 9/11, there were instances of fake 'survivors' that tried to cash in with sob stories. There have been fake vets of the war in the Middle East, and fake survivors of hurricane Katrina.
Jigsaw has been at his game for quite some time now, and apparently he's been torturing and murdering the crap out of tens of thousands of people; this is just a humble estimate, going by all the nameless survivors who appear to tell their story in Saw 3D. Bobby Decker (Flanery) sees all the attention these survivors are getting,...

Our look back at the Saw franchise continues, with the ultra-violent franchise instalments Saw III and Saw IV…
This article contains spoilers.
Is it serendipity or just convenient division that brings together Saw III and Saw IV in the second part of this retrospective series? Quite aside from being many things to fans of the series, the midpoint, the fulcrum or the point where it all went wrong, they're two films that take place simultaneously with each other in the series' timeline.
The story so far, as we discovered yesterday, brings us to the beginning of Saw III with Amanda abducting Dr. Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh). Jigsaw's condition is deteriorating, and he must stay the course and keep hold of his mortal coil until the conclusion of his latest game. Bereaved father Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) is the subject, going through a series of rooms and passing judgement on different victims.

Costas Mandylor has said that the upcoming Saw 3D is "fun as usual". The actor, who has portrayed Mark Hoffman in the franchise since 2006's Saw III, told reporters at the Scream Awards 2010 that fans will not be disappointed by the series' last instalment. Speaking about filming Saw 3D, Mandylor said: "It was a little bit different because of the 3D aspect. "It’s a lot of work for the guys that do the lighting and that, but everybody gets killed as usual." Mandylor's co-star Sean Patrick Flanery (more)...

Costas Mandylor says fans are in for their usual horrific treat - but with an added dimension of terror - when the next instalment of Saw comes out in 3D at the end of this month.
The Aussie actor, who plays Mark Hoffman in the hugely successful franchise, described filming the seventh and purportedly final movie as "fun as usual!"
"It was a little bit different because of the 3D aspect," he explained, speaking on the red carpet in Los Angeles at the Scream Awards 2010.
"It's a lot of work for the guys that do the lighting and that, but everybody gets killed as usual," he laughed.
Costas says his personal horror favourite is one of the genre's classics.
He said: "I've always been in love with The Exorcist because it was just weird and freaky with the little girl, the devil voice and spewing blood. But the world has...

At the end of Saw VI, Mark Hoffman seemed to have met his match in Jill Tuck when he just barely managed to survive her reverse bear trap. It appeared that Jill was in a position to take up Jigsaw's bloody handiwork. But wait, could she have been set up by Jigsaw to finally put an end to Hoffman and the torture? Fans have been left hanging so many times throughout the entire Saw anthology and now Saw 3D claims to be the final chapter which will tie up the loose ends, finally answering those nagging question Jigsaw planted in fans' feeble little minds. One would think that the trailer might offer a clue to the larger Saw picture, but after watching it I was left expecting the movie experience to be akin to...

Bonjour Dr. Gordon. The French have revealed a new trailer for 'Saw 3D' and we get a few extra glimpses of Cary Elwes playing the fore-mentioned doctor and a bit more trap action. The overall trailer is much like the early conceptual 3D one that decides to indicate that this 3D will be so good that actual things from the film will burst out of the screen and of course the audiences very own cinema seats will become horrific torturous traps. Tobin Bell returns for the final time as the now-legendary Jigsaw (John Kramer). Elwes is back and will reprise his role he last played in the 2004 original 'Saw' movie. Costas Mandylor and Betsy Russell also return to the fold as Mark Hoffman and Jill Tuck respectively. And they whole gang will be joined by Sean Patrick Flanery, Gina Holden, Rebecca Marshall, James Van Patten and Greg Bryk.

Jill Tuck may have started out as a mere memory in Saw III, but ever since, her prominence in the series has increased exponentially. Just as moviegoers have anticipated Jill’s development, so has the actress who actually plays Mrs. Jigsaw, Betsy Russell. Way back when she signed on the dotted line for Saw III, Russell hadn’t a clue where the writers planned to take her character. Four years later, Jill has turned into a serious force to be reckoned with and, in Saw 3D, will supposedly have an even greater impact on the story, which might have a little something to do with a grudge between her and Mark Hoffman (Costas [...]...

For anyone who.s a fan of the Saw franchise, it probably comes as no surprise that I was a little intimidated to be talking to Costas Mandylor. He may have begun his run in the series playing Mark Hoffman as a mere officer investigating yet another Jigsaw crime scene in the third film, but from there he becomes an integral part of the story not only in Saw IV and beyond, but even in the first three films through new revelations. Hoffman has been Jigsaw.s accomplice all along and after John Kramer loses his life alongside his protégé Amanda, Hoffman and John.s wife, Jill, are left to carry on the legacy. The problem is, Hoffman and Jill can.t play nice and at the end of the sixth film, Jill puts Hoffman in the infamous reverse bear trap. What Jill doesn.t know is that upon ...

The Saw franchise shudders to its apparent climax with Saw 3D. Our horror fanatic Duncan went along to a 15 minute preview to find out if the traps really do come alive…
With Saw 3D out in just over a month, Lionsgate were good enough to give us a little glimpse into the seventh, and allegedly final, film in the Saw franchise. I say allegedly, because I think we all know that any horror franchise with a relatively low production cost and a high turnover is never going to be allowed to die. Curiously, when we interviewed Saw producer Mark Burg about Saw V and VI, back in March of last year, he said:
"For me and my partner Oren (Koules) it's hard to continually come up with good stories every year... we wanna keep it going, I don't know how many more we can really do. In our mind there's probably two,...

A new trailer has been issued for Saw 3D, and it is stuck below for your viewing pleasures!
I'll be honest - I have no idea what's going on in this serious anymore. The films have become so overblown and absurdly complex that I don't even know where to begin in writing a meager three sentence synopsis. Given that, I'm going to include a synopsis for a random episode of the Brady Bunch instead, with names changed appropriately. I choose to use Vote for Brady as a template.
Mark Hoffman and Jill Tuck compete for class president. When rude behavior and emotional turmoil prevail, particularly as each candidate rehearses their speech, Jigsaw steps in and lectures the kids about unity. It's a talk Jill Tuck takes very seriously, particularly when his campaign manager Bobby Dagen suggests turning things up another notch: by stirring up rumors about Mark Hoffman!

Hollywood can't be set asunder from sequels. The facts that popular characters are more appealing to moviegoers and there is less risk involved in presenting a follow-up rather than releasing new film have attracted more and more filmmakers to bring out one sequel after another whenever a movie performs well with the audience.
Such is happening in 2010. The year will see many of best movies from previous years springing out with sequels in competition to dominate the box office. From the hilarious "Meet the Fockers" to the action-packed "Iron Man" and from children's series "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" to terrifying "Scream 4", they all get the chance to present more stories and adventures in the life of people's beloved characters.
With those sequels being offered, AceShowbiz compiles only the 10 not-to-be-missed ones in the upcoming 2010. Each sequel listed weighs on how the original films performed...

Six years! Six movies! Can you believe it? It seems like it was just yesterday we were all hearing about this twisted short film by some whippersnappers named James Wan and Leigh Whannell, but today their baby "Saw" is the flagship franchise for the entire horror film industry. Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), the series' constant villain, has joined the pantheon of scary movie greats like Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers. It's even recognized as the series that brought the horror subgenre of "torture porn" to the masses. Yes, it's a different world we live in.
Indeed it's hard to imagine a world without "Saw". And why should we expect there to ever be such a thing? The "Saw VI" writing team of Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are already signed on to work through "Saw VIII." Seeing as how people are still turning out in droves to see Jigsaw's latest deathtraps every autumn,...

It's almost Halloween, kiddies, and you know what that means -- it's almost time for another Saw. Since 2004, the Saw franchise has taken audiences for a wild ride into the dark and twisted inner recesses of humanity, and Saw 6 will only up the game. There will be more bloody good death traps and more desperate situations for the unfortunate players to face. We witnessed Saw 5 end with the death of Agent Peter Strahm (Scott Patterson) and the survival of Lieutenant Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor), who we discover is the next person to continue Jigsaw's demented work. So what new grueling life-or-death scenarios will be revealed in Saw 6 and what will the traps be? And will there be more Jigsaw (Tobin Bell)? Saw 6 continues Hoffman's reign of terror as he sets up yet another gruesome game involving traps that only nightmares are made of. One of the traps he sets up...

Ah, autumn. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, interrupted only by the screams that greet the release of the latest Saw movie: this year, Saw VI. Yes, serial killer* Jigsaw hasn't let such a small detail as being dead for three movies stop him from choosing new victims, and here's a taster with all-new footage from the film. This time around, police lieutenant Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) has covered up his murder of Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) in the last film and is continuing Jigsaw's work, but it turns out there's more to Jigsaw's scheme than was ever revealed before (of course). Traps (some of them glimpsed here) include a "steam room", a carousel with six people on it, only two of whom can be saved and a head trap with metal bars threatening to crush the victim's skull (the latter played by Tanedra Howard, winner of a TV reality...
