Johannesburg, Dec 1 (Ians) Currently second in the Icc World Test Championship table, South Africa are hoping for some good results in the upcoming series to maintain their hopes of reaching the Wtc final in London next June.
With a spot in the final at stake, South Africa have a lot to play for and the Proteas Test captain Dean Elgar is hoping that his team has learned from its experiences in England and expects them to do better during their tour to Australia starting later this month.
The squad leaves Johannesburg on Thursday for the three-Test trip that begins with a warm-up fixture against a Cricket Australia XI next Friday in Brisbane, before the first Test against the hosts at the Gabba on December 17.
It will be the first time the Proteas play red-ball cricket since their 2-1 series defeat to England on their own turf earlier this year — a...

Rawalpindi, Feb 6 (Ians) Spinners George Linde and Keshav Maharaj shared five wickets to keep South Africa alive after the third day of the second Test against Pakistan on Saturday.
The spinners helped South Africa reduce the hosts to 129 for six runs by stumps, a lead of exactly 200 on a day when 12 wickets went down.
Six of those belonged to the visitors as their middle and lower order were again exposed when they were dismissed for a below-par 201, handing Pakistan a first innings lead of 71 to build on. Temba Bavuma was left unbeaten on 44.
Mark Boucher's side then needed to dig deep in order to have a chance of victory, with Linde's three for 12 in nine overs, five of which were maidens, doing precisely that. Maharaj chipped in with two for 74 meaning the game was still hanging in the balance heading to day four on Sunday.

Rawalpindi, Feb 3 (Ians) South Africa will look to square the series when they face host Pakistan in the second Test here from Thursday on a pitch that has traditionally provided pace bowlers more help than in Karachi, the venue of the first Test.
Pakistan won the first Test by seven wickets, but they will be wary of a South Africa team that is likely to come hard at them in what would be Quinton de Kock-led team's final Test match of the season after Australia postponed their tour to South Africa.
This will be the third Test the stadium will be hosting in 14 months since Test cricket returned to Pakistan in December 2019.
Pakistan have won four and lost three out of the 10 Tests played here. Three ended as draw one of which came against South Africa back in 1997.

Rawalpindi, Feb 3 (Ians) South Africa coach Mark Boucher expressed disappointment after Australia postponed their tour of his country despite being welcomed with 'a red carpet'.
"It's certainly disappointing. The Csa (Cricket South Africa) have expressed their disappointment and it's no different for the players," said Boucher while speaking to the media.
"There's probably a feeling that we were laying down the red carpet for Australia, which is frustrating at times," he said. "It seems a lot of goalposts were being moved for that particular tour, for Australia."
Boucher said that the development was surprising despite the fact that the Proteas team had surrendered their preferred hotel to Tim Paine's men.
"For example, the one positive that came out of the bubble against Sri Lanka (in December-January) was the hotel that we stayed at. We thought it was a great hotel for us as South Africans. It suits our needs...
