Reginald D Hunter will investigate the history of blackface and minstrel shows in a new BBC Two documentary.
The three-part Reginald D Hunter's Songs of the South will see the comedian journey the American South and find out why local traditional tunes still carry a strong element of racism.
Reginald D Hunter interview: 'Britain is full of position-takers'
Hunter, who was born in Georgia, will visit his home state as he drives 1,000 miles from North Carolina to New Orleans.
He will speak to the musicians Dr John, Eddie Floyd, Clarence Carter, Seasick Steve and The Handsome Family, as well as 'Rainy Night In Georgia' writer Tony Joe White.
Hunter will also go to a Lynyrd Skynyrd festival in Alabama, try soul food in Georgia, square dance in Paducah and explore the rise of hip-hop in Atlanta.
Reginald D Hunter's Songs of the South will air next February on BBC Two.

It feels like we've had guest hosts on Never Mind the Buzzcocks forever, but that's about to change. Yup, we have a new - permanent - host, and it's none other than comedian Rhod Gilbert. Since that's a pretty big thing to take on, we called up Rhod - while he was dealing with an unruly dog on a Welsh mountain (good preparation, in other words) - to find out how he'll cope with difficult guests, what'll be different and why the first single he ever bought is not a good sign of how credible he is...
Hi Rhod. Are you going to be more of a Lamarr or more of an Amstell?
"I don't think I'm either to be honest with you. You can go round in circles analysing these things to death. Both of those guys hosted a lot of shows, they left their mark on it indelibly.

The Bonnaroo Music Festival, which runs for four days in Manchester Tenn., recently announced their 2014 lineup.
Headlining the 13th annual Bonnaroo will be Elton John, Kanye West, Jack White, Lionel Richie, Vampire Weekend, The Avett Brothers, Phoenix, Skrillex, Arctic Monkeys, Frank Ocean and The Flaming Lips.
Also heading to the Great Stage Park this summer will be Neutral Milk Hotel, Wiz Khalifa, Cut Copy, The Head and the Heart, Lauryn Hill, Broken Bells, Ice Cube, Slightly Stoopid, Fitz and The Tantrums, Cake, Janelle Monae, Amos Lee and John Butler Trio.
West was a surprise choice for the festival, which hasn’t had the rapper in their lineup since 2008 when he walked onto the stage nearly two hours after his scheduled set time. Though he tried to blame Pearl Jam’s extended set, the crowd united in booing him.

The always epic Bonnaroo — a four-day music and camping festival on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tenn. — boasts some huge names this year. I was two bandits short of a band when I sat down with Wille in a red be-curtained anteroom at The Islington to discuss the imminent live performance and the new album ‘Grow’.
When I asked Wille to outline a Banditine gig, he described the experience as a “dynamic” journey, explaining that even though they had the songs to perform an entirely “bouncy” and upbeat show, they prefer to put their audience through their emotional paces. Certainly the heavy-rock centred numbers and the reggae-fusion material had the crowd at their most animated. However there was an engagement with the slower, introspective songs which had a trance-inducing hypnotism.
As I listened to ‘Grow’ on the Tube, getting hot and bothered on my way to North London, I could almost have been trekking through an African savannah, caught in a Caribbean heat wave or mopping my brow in...

It’s hard to explain the emotions and atmosphere that a good band at a festival like this can generate, one thing if for sure that no amount of BBC coverage could sum it up. With over 53 stages that covers rock, pop, dance to circus acts, comedians and poetry readings it’s impossible to write about all of them but here are some highlights from the main stages
Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye kick of proceeding to a packed field but nothing gets as much applause as the Oasis tracks. The key to any voyage into the twangy depths of this weekend's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival is planning.
San Francisco's annual free celebration of bluegrass (and also not bluegrass) in Golden Gate Park, now in its 12th consecutive year, has gotten so popular that shuttling between stages to see all of your favorite bands can prove virtually impossible. Instead, the best idea is often just to get there early, pick a spot near the stage you're most interested in and stay there for the long haul.
(Scroll Down For Playlist And Lineup)
While the lineup was announced months ago, the actual full schedule, complete with set times, was only released recently. Essential planning's gotta all be done Right This Very Second.
Our top recommendations are Ben Kweller, Buddy Miller, Robert Earl Keen, The Dirty Three, the Heartless Bastards, Son Volt and Les Claypool's Duo De Twang. If you're curious as to why this is exciting,...

Track is from White's first solo album, Blunderbuss, due April 24.

Jack White hasn't exactly been living life outside the public eye since announcing the end of the White Stripes last year, making records with everyone from Tom Jones to the Insane Clown Posse and appearing on a (really pretty excellent) episode of "American Pickers," to name just a few of his endeavors.
And on April 24, he'll officially add "solo artist" to that résumé, with the release of Blunderbuss, the first album to bear his name — and his name only. And while we suppose the move was inevitable, according to White, he never really had any plans to go solo. In fact, Blunderbuss, the first album basically began life as a happy accident.
"I didn't really even think of recording under my own name for a long time," White told BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe on Monday.

She comes on stage with a troupe of backing dancers singing How Will I Know? Her voice just doesn’t suit this, though Lucie is giving it a powerful try. She’s also struggling a little with the choreography.
