Just like Florida Georgia Line itself, the bro-country duo’s Nashville bar is kaput. Fgl House, which first opened its doors in June 2017 with a ribbon cutting by members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, has closed and will be replaced by a new Lainey Wilson venture.
The shuttering of Fgl House marks the first country-star branded bar of the modern era to close in Nashville. Tc Restaurant Group, which operates bars by the likes of Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, and, formerly, Florida Georgia Line, will partner with Wilson to create Bell Bottoms Up.

Morgan Wallen is expected to appear in court when his chair-throwing case picks back up in August (unless it’s settled before then).
As People reports, Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, appeared on the musician’s behalf at a hearing in Nashville on Friday, May 3. The court had waived Wallen’s right to appear at the largely procedural hearing, where the charges against him were discussed and a next court date was scheduled for Aug. 15.

Morgan Wallen closed out the 2024 Stagecoach Sunday night with a hits-filled set that included guest appearances by Post Malone, Eric Church, Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, and Ernest.
It was the Post Malone duet that drew the most buzz, as the twosome debuted their new song “I Had Some Help.” Ahead of the festival, Malone — who performed a covers-and-guests-filled Stagecoach set under the moniker Posty Goes Country — teased his forthcoming collaboration with Wallen. The first snippet arrived in December, with another preview coming in hot on the eve of Stagecoach’s opening night.

Country star Eric Church has responded to criticism he received for putting on an unconventional, polarizing headlining set at the Stagecoach Music Festival.
Taking the festival’s main stage for its closing slot on Friday night, Church transformed Stagecoach into a literal church of sorts, projecting dramatic stained-glass art behind him and enlisting a gospel choir to fill-out the sound. Though his performance began later than scheduled, it opened with quite a statement: a five-minute organ intro followed by a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (but don’t tell St. Vincent that).

From there, Church’s setlist featured more covers — some traditional and some quite unexpected. He played “This Little Light of Mine,” and other standards, but also reimagined songs like Tupac Shakur’s “California Love” and Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice.” Notably missing, though, were many of Church’s own songs — he...

When a fireworks finale erupted at the end of Miranda Lambert’s performance of “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” on Saturday night and the country star disappeared offstage, it seemed as if her Stagecoach headlining set was all but over. But Lambert, who just a few minutes earlier had shouted “I got the hell out of Oklahoma!” in “Little Red Wagon,” reappeared to coyly introduce a special guest from the state: Reba McEntire. “I was thinking it would be pretty badass if I had a feisty redhead...

Stagecoach is known for its surprises and, on Friday night, Eric Church delivered one of the most unexpected sets in the California country music festival’s history. The question facing fans is, was it a good surprise or a bad one?

The buzz around this year’s Stagecoach Festival, kicking off Friday in Indio, California, is among the loudest in the country music fest’s 16-year history. Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

Brian Wilson has joined forces with the late Glen Campbell for a posthumous duet of Campbell’s song, “Strong.”
“Strong (with Brian Wilson)” is the latest entry in the upcoming duet collection Glen Campbell Duets — Ghost on the Canvas Sessions, which is out everywhere on April 19th. Originally appearing on Campbell’s 2011 “farewell” album Ghost on the Canvas, “Strong” is a warm, string-laden track that describes Campbell’s onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Campbell vows to his wife to maintain his resilience in the face of the disease, confessing, “All I want to be for you is strong.” All the while, signature harmonies from Wilson add a dreamy, hopeful feel, and Wilson shares Campbell’s verses with conviction and clarity. Listen to the song below.

Luke Combs is the man of the hour. The 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, April 9, and Combs came out on top with eight bids, including Entertainer of the Year. Check out the complete list of nominations here.
This is Combs’s fifth nomination in a row for Entertainer of the Year, an award he has yet to win. This year he’s up against Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and lone female nominee Lainey Wilson. Women are consistently underrepresented in Entertainer of the Year, though Carrie Underwood won in 2020 (in a tie with Thomas Rhett) and Miranda Lambert finally prevailed in 2022. But we mustn’t underestimate Wilson here. She pulled off a huge upset at the CMA Awards last fall, claiming Entertainer of the Year despite being relatively new on the scene.

“Fast Car” continues to drive Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman to the top — this time, at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Combs is the top contender this year with eight nominations, competing for entertainer of the year as well as single and song of the year with “Fast Car.” He shares the latter nomination with Chapman, who wrote the song alone and had major success with it in 1988, 35 years before Combs brought new life to the track and made it a country hit.
Chapman won in the same category at last year’s Country Music Association Awards, becoming the first Black person to do so. She and Combs earned praise for teaming up for a live performance of the song at February’s Grammy Awards, where Combs was nominated for his version of the song; Chapman won two Grammys for her original version.

Country music superstar Morgan Wallen has been charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment after allegedly throwing a chair off of the sixth story of a Nashville rooftop bar on Sunday night, according to Wtvf. Police say the chair landed just three feet away from two officers who were standing in front of the bar’s entrance down below.
The alleged incident occurred at a bar owned by fellow country singer Eric Church. The bar’s staff identified Wallen as the person responsible for throwing the chair, and provided police with surveillance footage which showed Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof.” Witnesses also told police that Wallen laughed after throwing the chair.
Wallen was arrested on three counts of felony reckless endangerment, as well as disorderly conduct. He was booked at 12:36 a.m. local time on Monday and released three hours later after posting bond.

Post Malone has made himself an indispensable guest vocalist lately. The Texas musician, who released his own album Austin last year, is showing up on the two biggest LPs of the year. Back in the 1990s, the Black Crowes blew up out of Atlanta, playing soulful, swaggering classic rock in an era of alt-rock irony and grunge bellyaching. Even more impressively, the two guys at the heart of the band — singer Chris Robinson and his guitar-playing brother Rich — managed to pull off their multi-platinum run while absolutely hating each other, like an American version of Oasis. But eventually the tension between Chris and Rich forced the Crowes to close up shop.

When Eric Church announced his plans in 2022 to open a bar in Nashville’s Lower Broadway entertainment district, it was easy to be cynical and assume the venture would follow the homogenized honky-tonk playbook: lease a building, brand it with the name or likeness of a (mainstream, often male) country star, and serve the masses whiskey and beer while a country band plays “Don’t Stop Believing.”
But Church, who never met a Nashville trend he didn’t try to smash, swears that was the last thing he wanted to do with Chief’s,...

Brit Turner, co-founding member and drummer of the southern rock band Blackberry Smoke, has died at the age of 57 following a battle with brain cancer.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform everyone that our brother Brit Turner has moved on from this life,” Blackberry Smoke said in a statement released on Sunday evening. “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band.”
Turner was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022 and underwent brain surgery. He continued to tour with the band throughout 2023, but in December, the band announced that he would be absent from their early 2024 tour dates. In his place, Blackberry Smoke tapped drummer Kent Aberle.

There was no need to worry that Reba McEntire might mess up or bring any unnecessary flourishes to “The Star-Spangled Banner” when she performed the National Anthem prior to the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. Unlike anyone else who’d done it prior to the Bowl or any other major NFL game in recent memory, she brought a full half-century’s experience of singing the anthem to the occasion.
The year 2024 marks a special anniversary for the country superstar and her association with the song: She is often said to have been “discovered” 50 years ago when she sang it at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in her home state of Oklahoma, when she was just 19.
McEntire’s latest rendition of the anthem was more fully orchestrated than some other recent versions — or even her own past readings — have been, with a pre-recorded horn section sending the song toward a big climax.

As the tenth anniversary of Glen Campbell’s Ghost on the Canvas was approaching, Dave Kaplan —whose Surfdog Records released the haunting album in 2011 — was pondering ways to honor it. A late-period landmark for Campbell, who died in 2017 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Ghost on the Canvas found the venerable pop-country singer and guitarist covering songs by a new generation of writers — alt-rock types like Paul Westerberg, Guided By Voices’ Robert Pollard, Jakob Dylan, and Teddy Thompson. The album ranked Number 88 on Rolling Stone‘s list of...

To mark what would have been David Bowie’s 77th birthday today, Wilco have shared their live rendition of the music icon’s “Space Oddity.”
The cover was recorded during the band’s visit to Mountain Stage, NPR Music, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s long-running live radio show and features as the opening track on an upcoming compilation highlighting performances from the series.
“As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements,” Wilco said in a statement.

Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.

Dave Grohl has unleashed the only live performance of his epic 23-minute, instrumental “Play,” which extends the song to a whopping 36 minutes.
Recorded during Warren Haynes’ 30th Annual Christmas Jam in 2018, the live version expands the breadth of the instrumental as Grohl is accompanied by Greg Kurstin on keyboards, Chris Chaney on bass, Drew Hester on percussion, and guitarists Jason Falkner, Alain Johannes, and Barrett Jones. However, it’s Asheville-based busker Abby the Spoon Lady who really steals the show. Watch the performance below.
“Play” was originally composed and performed entirely with Grohl on every instrument. The process of its recording was captured in a two-part documentary of the same name, released in 2018.
The track will appear on The Benefit Concert Volume 20, a collection of performances recorded on December 7th and 8th, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina. Other featured artists include Eric Church, Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule, Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento,...
