Showcase is likely the series that comes to mind when one thinks of Silver Age DC Comics anthologies, but The Brave and the Bold may have an even greater legacy. Sure, the former introduced some of the most important Silver Age heroes, including Barry Allen as the Flash and Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. But The Brave and the Bold changed comics forever with the introduction of the Justice League of America in its 28th issue. Not only did the Jla become DC’s premier superhero team but its success prompted Atlas Comics publisher Martin Goodman to tell his editor Stan Lee to give superheroes a shot, leading to the creation of the Fantastic Four and the Marvel Universe.
So it’s no small thing that DC Comics plans to bring The Brave and the Bold back as part of its Dawn of DC storytelling initiative next year. Spinning out...

Naomi is the latest entry in The CW’s slate of shows based on DC Comics’ characters. Written and executive produced by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, and adapted from the comic book of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell for the Wonder Comics imprint, the show follows the journey of a cool, confident, comic book–loving teenager as she pursues her hidden destiny.
Naomi looks at superheroes from the perspective of the small town folks who read about it in the news. Naomi runs a Superman fan site. He is fiction in her world… until he’s not. When she misses a Superman sighting—or what everyone assumes is a “stunt”—in her small town of Port Oswego, she jumps at the opportunity to investigate the appearance. The more she looks into the stunt, the closer she gets to learning the truth about herself.

Most of the superheroes on the DC-on-The-cw dramas have a long history with each other. Their comic book counterparts have been around for decades, and even in these adaptations, the characters have crossed over into each other’s worlds to team up and take down villains more than once.
But when “Naomi” joins the lineup on Jan. 11, the show — and the titular character, played by Kaci Walfall — is on her own.
She may be a big fan of Superman within the series — so much so that she runs one of the largest fan sites in the world about the DC hero — but she lives in a very different universe than the one in which The CW’s Superman (of “Superman & Lois”) resides.
“I want this to be an autonomous story about Naomi,” executive producer Ava DuVernay tells Variety. “One of the things I really wanted was for her to live in her own universe.

The CW has unveiled its first look at Kaci Walfall as the titular hero of its upcoming series Naomi.
During Saturday’s DC FanDome presentation, the network shared a teaser that sees Walfall’s Naomi on the case of what seems to be a mysterious stunt involving superman.
“I need this for my site,” Naomi interrupts her class before rushing out into the hallways.
After grabbing her bags to get to the center of action Asap, Naomi skateboards through the hallways of her school and reaches her destination. However, potentially overwhelmed by what she sees, Naomi loses consciousness. But right before it’s lights out for her, she sees a familiar silouhette shoot through the sky.

The CW is starting to make decisions about new series for the 2021-22 broadcast season.
The network has picked up All American: Homecoming and Naomi to series.
It comes as the youth-skewing broadcaster had tough decisions to make over which projects to pick up. Powerpuff, a live-action reboot of the hit cartoon, is being reworked and re-piloted off-cycle, while the Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift remains in consideration.
Black Lightning spinoff Painkiller and Jennie Snyder Urman’s millennial nun dramedy Our Ladies of Brooklyn are not moving forward.
The All American spinoff and Ava DuVernay’s superhero project join a reboot of classic sci-fi drama 4400 straight-to-series. The CW is set to unveil its full fall schedule and midseason 2022 programming on Tuesday.

The 4400 is officially making a comeback.
The CW on Tuesday announced a straight-to-series order for its remake of USA Network's sci-fi drama.
The news comes a little over two years since the project was first announced, but the series has been in development since.
As expected, the network was holding off on a formal pickup until it got the project right, and the new take comes from Ariana Jackson.
The reboot follows 4,400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years and are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them.
“As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few… upgrades,” the project's description reads.

Pilot season at The CW is happening after all.
The youth-skewing broadcaster has handed pilot orders to three projects: Ava DuVernay’s superhero drama Naomi, the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls and a millennial nun dramedy exec produced by Jennie Snyder Urman.
The network has also ordered a reboot of classic sci-fi drama The 4400 straight-to-series.
There had been some question as to whether the network would go completely straight-to-series for next broadcast season, given the uncertainty around the pandemic, but CW chairman Mark Pedowitz has decided to stick with the pilot process.
“I believe in pilots, I believe you see things in pilots,” he told Deadline last month.
The three pilot orders do not, however, spell the end of the road for the network’s other development projects, and sources tell Deadline that there may be room for more. It has also developed the Greg Berlanti-produced Wonder Girl...

It’s somehow almost 2021, which means the DC Universe is about to enter its Future State, the big two month crossover that kicks off the new year by pausing its regular line, and diving deep into the wild, varied timelines and parallel universes for new angles from fresh creators. And we are happy to have your exclusive first look at the February covers and solicitations for the Justice League family of books.
Since half the fun of solicits is trying to piece together what’s happening in the book from the 50 words and a cover, we decided to engage in some wild, semi-informed speculation on what might be coming from DC’s event.
Let’s get right to it: Future State has a very strong Seven Soldiers of Victory vibe.

Decades ago (pandemic time), DC Comics announced that John Ridley, Oscar-winning writer of 12 Years a Slave and creator of the award-winning American Crime, would be writing a series about major events in DC history from the perspective of heroes from traditionally marginalized groups. Far Sector puts a new Green Lantern on a new beat and it's one of the most exciting things DC has done in ages.
It's awe inspiring to me that I can know from the moment a comic is announced that it is extremely For Me, and yet still be surprised at how good every issue is. It's even more impressive that I'm getting it from two creators who are relatively new to the medium. But that's the beauty of Far Sector: even when it's been great, it gets better.
I think my first exposure to N.K. Jemisin's writing was prose work. I'm not usually a short story guy, but hers in A People's Future of the United States was so good that I grabbed The Stone Sky right after, and the only reason I didn't tear through that series beginning to end in a week...

We've got the main and trading card variant cover art for the upcoming issue #43 of the Power Rangers comic!
The Power Rangers comic is going in bold new directions by introducing the White Ranger into the main comic, especially after its univere altering "Shattered Grid" arc. While the comic has veered away from Power Rangers TV stories since the beginning, having the White Ranger around without any of the "Green Candle" episodes is still a huge depature. While we haven't gotten issue #40, where the White Ranger is set to debut, we've got an exclusive look at the covers of issue #43 of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic.
First up is the main cover by Jamal Campbell.
What has beaten the Rangers back so badly? What's going on in the sky? Some unknown evil force? Those massive time portals from Time Force? What's that shadow of? So many questions!
We've got the main and trading card variant cover art for the upcoming issue #43 of the Power Rangers comic!

Doom Patrol stays hot as Gerard Way's beloved run continues, along with a pair of new Young Animal books
Hot on the heels of the critical smash DC Universe original series, DC announced the return of Gerard Way's Doom Patrol and his pop up imprint, Young Animal. The new book, Doom Patrol: Weight of the World, will be on shelves this July. And much like the last imprint, it looks like we'll be getting some other terrific books out of Young Animal as well.
Way will be sharing writing duties with his co-writer for the final issue of the last series, Jeremy Lambert. Art duties for Doom Patrol: Weight of the World start with James Harvey, and taken up by other folks later in the run like Becky Cloonan (Eisner-nominee for Conan the Barbarian), Doc Shaner (close your eyes and imagine the best Shazam comic you've ever read.
