Glee, Season 5, Episode 20, “The Untitled Rachel Berry Project”
Written by Matthew Hodgson
Directed by Brad Falchuk
Airs Tuesday 8pm Et on Fox
Glee‘s “The Untitled Rachel Berry Project” feels more like a series finale than a season finale. Even though there are 13 episodes left to go before the show’s real end, I’m sure most of that time will be spent tying up loose ends, as the New York crew is going their separate ways and there is a growing hole where that rambunctious glee club used to be.
Brittany’s unceremonious return to the fold, while short lived, adds back an extra level of fun and frivolity that has been missing from the group dynamic. Fans were unsure if we’d be seeing the lovable blonde turned unlikely math genius again after the actress who plays her, Heather Morris, left the show to have and bond with her first child,...

They say a kiss is just a kiss. But what if it was never a kiss in the first place? Two of the new Glee writers inflamed fan fury last night when they tweeted that Brittany and Santana had already kissed. Both Matthew Hodgson and Michael Hitchcock replied to the same fan’s tweet complaining that the show has still not delivered on a kiss between its only established gay girl coupling.
The “kiss” Hodgson and Hitchcock alluded to was the non-kiss between the pairing while in bed together at the start of “Duets,” episode 4, Season 2, which aired Oct. 12, 2010. Though, anyone paying attention would know that while Brittany and Santana talked about sweet lady kisses, their lips never actually touched. I like to call it The Great Neck Nuzzle of 2010.
In case you are the show-don’t-tell kind of person, there is abundant video evidence as well. Good thing they...

Before I begin, let me thank Heather Hogan for stepping in last week when my power went out. I believe in retrospect it was the gods showing mercy to me by not making me recap what I now firmly believe to be the worst-structured, most badly-written, pointless, plotless episode in the history of Glee, with the sole exception of Santana's amazing scene in which she comes out to, and is rejected by, her abuela.
It didn't help my evaluation of the episode when its author, Matthew Hodgson, took to Twitter last night to opine that those of us who want to see Brittany and Santana kiss should realize that they've already kissed last season in "Duets." He was joined by fellow newbie writer Michael Hitchcock, who decided to tell a fan she "must not have watched the show" if she didn't think they'd kissed.
I'm not sure how they define...

Glee writer Matthew Hodgson, on Twitter @mhodgson207
The writers’ room now at Glee is now bursting with a great new group that has begun to help the show grow past its sophomore slump. Among the new writers is Matthew Hodgson, the talented writer of Glee Episode 307, I Kissed a Girl.
Matthew has worked on the show as script coordinator since the pilot. With that kind of access he's probably the ultimate Gleek, and with last week’s episode, he made an important and lasting contribution.
TV is a collaborative medium, with a lot of folks taking deserved credit, but I single out Matthew for praise because, I Kissed a Girl successfully re-jiggered most of the third season story arcs, invested some needed heart to nearly every character, held two elections and set up (finally) a genuinely suspenseful Sectionals competition that will bring back Trouty Mouth.
He managed – finally – to end...
