Almost eleven months have gone by since we heard that Julie Bowen – who played the character Claire Dunphy on 250 episodes of the ABC sitcom Modern Family – had signed on to star in the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria!, which is set up at the Peacock streaming service. Emjay Anthony (Physical), Chiara Aurelia (Cruel Summer), Kezii Curtis (Charm City Kings), Nikki Hahn (Magnum P.I.), and Anna Camp of the Pitch Perfect films joined the show soon after Bowen. Then genre icon Bruce Campbell signed on to play small town police chief Dandridge. Things have been quiet for a while, but now Deadline has revealed the names of several more Hysteria! cast members. They are Garret Dillahunt (The Last House on the Left remake), Nolan North (Pretty Little Liars), Elijah Richardson (Fantasy Football), Milly Shapiro (Hereditary), Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), and Jessica Treska (Alex & Me). All of the newly announced cast...

The subgenre of "Christmas movies" has been a curious one of late. While new movies set during the holiday season or others explicitly concerning it are released every year (especially holiday horror), it feels like we haven't gotten a new classic, gotta-watch-this-every-year holiday movie in a while. That's because, in all honesty, most classics aren't made, they're grown; it takes a few years for most films to prove their durability, and some that are overlooked upon their initial release get rediscovered and slowly morph into seasonal staples.
Filmmaker Michael Dougherty is intimately familiar with this process, as it's happened to him at least twice with two movies about two different holidays. His anthology of Halloween hijinks, 2007's "Trick 'r Treat," barely got a theatrical release before word of mouth allowed it to gain a cult reputation strong enough that a sequel has been rumored for years, and may actually happen.

‘Tis the season for children to be on their best behavior, so Santa Claus can properly declare whether they belong to the nice or naughty list. 5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)
When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

Fans have been waiting 14 years for director Michael Dougherty to get around to making a sequel to his Halloween-themed horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, but Dougherty has stayed busy as the years have gone by, making the Christmas-themed horror film Krampus, directing Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and contributing to the scripts for X-Men: Apocalypse, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Recently, there have been indications that a Trick ‘r Treat 2 might finally be moving forward. Dougherty has even said the screenplay has been written. But while he pushes that sequel toward production, he has revealed to Collider that he has an idea for Krampus 2 as well.
Dougherty told them, “We have an idea for a sequel on that one, too. It doesn’t necessarily center around a family as much as it might be about a group of strangers who are trapped somewhere.

There's nothing funnier to a preteen boy than farts. Hell, there's nothing funnier to most grown-up dudes than farts. Farting is just funny to us. We're hardwired to find passing gas the height of comedy and, judging by me, my circle of friends, and growing up around gassy grandfathers, that's a trait that spans generations, probably going back to the caveman days. I wouldn't be surprised if there are cave drawings of woolly mammoths blasting ass that cracked up that whole tribe on a daily basis.
So, it shouldn't be shocking to you that when they were filming the first season of "Stranger Things," which had a cast composed of mostly young boys, that there was something of a farting issue on the set. And one time, early on in the filming process, that problem escalated to a near emergency.

Production on the Peacock series Hysteria! starring Julie Bowen and Anna Camp has shut down production in Atlanta for the remainder of the WGA writers strike.
Deadline understands the WGA picket line was respected by Teamsters and IATSE early Monday morning, the 35th day of the strike.
While production shutdowns have become a regular occurrence in New York and Los Angeles as a result of picketing by striking writers, this is believed to be the first series to suspend filming in Atlanta. WGA East and West members are organizing in key cities outside of New York City and Los Angeles to help set up pickets with local members where productions have expanded in recent years, including Atlanta and Albuquerque.

Bruce Campbell is no stranger to dealing with the supernatural, so it’s no surprise that Variety has reported that he’s joined the cast of Hysteria!, Peacock’s satanic panic series.
Per the official description, “When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the ‘Satanic Panic’ of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported ‘supernatural activity’ triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.” Sounds… interesting. Bruce Campbell will play Chief Dandridge in Hysteria!, who is described as “a small-town police chief whose understanding of his community is put to the test after a disturbing series of murders, disappearances, and unexplained phenomena.”

Food is a universal theme in movies, and what's great about that is the wide variety of traditions, customs, and cultures that go into making foods from around the world so different and interesting. Food is strongly tied to family all over the map, whether it's big events like weddings or a Sunday dinner, or recipes handed down through the generations. Food can also be part of seduction or used in erotic games, and it can trace the arc of a romantic relationship. Food being prepared professionally, in restaurants, always makes for high drama and it's easy to understand why professional kitchens are such frequent settings for movies and TV shows. The tension can be unbearable, but there's also camaraderie amongst the staff, and interesting bonds to be explored with the customers and (gulp) the critics.

Since its release, "Krampus" has become a Christmas favorite of mine. "Rare Exports" and "A Christmas Horror Story" are often listed among the best adaptations of the Germanic legend, but I believe director Michael Doughtery's 2015 holiday horror flick has done the best job at bringing the titular mischief-maker to the screen. The story about a household being overtaken by Krampus and his adorable holiday minions introduces the centuries-old legend in a concise, hilarious, and thrilling way that only the filmmaker behind the influential "Trick 'r Treat" could have pulled off.
"Krampus" features a pretty spectacular ensemble with Emjay Anthony, Toni Collette, Conchata Ferrell, David Koechner, Adam Scott, Krista Stadler, and Alison Tolman. On top of all of that, the film nestles in quite nicely alongside "Gremlins" as a wonderful piece of holiday gateway horror. That's pretty much what the legend is, anyways.

Robert Downey Jr. has had one of the most amazing careers of any actor working in Hollywood today. Once a heartthrob in teen movies, Downey Jr. completely revitalized his career when he was cast as Tony Stark in Jon Favreau's 2008 comic book movie "Iron Man." The role nearly wasn't his, as it had previously been offered to Tom Cruise. After 10 movie appearances as the character, Downey Jr.'s personality has become synonymous with Tony Stark's. He has the same quick-witted, snarky sense of humor that makes Tony so entertaining. While sometimes actors can "phone it in" after playing a character for so long, he seemed to only get better, adding new layers to Tony as the "Infinity Saga" reached its conclusion, and his heartfelt performance in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" was surprisingly moving.
While some MCU fans may be sad to see Downey Jr. leave the character behind, it opens...

There is likely no genre of film or performance more subjective than comedy. You either laugh or you don’t. To explain why something is funny will more often than not rob a joke of its power, and to attempt to classify one type of humor over another could be a fool’s errand.
Which must mean we’re feeling pretty foolish here at Den of Geek, because in honor of our company’s 15th year, we decided to rank and list all the best laughers from the last decade and a half. Now admittedly, what qualifies as a “comedy”—versus, say, a drama with humorous moments—can be as subjective as humor itself. Yet given the wealth of material to work with, even from the last few years when comedies have sadly been mostly abandoned by Hollywood studios, we decided to let our staff and you, dear readers, choose what you think is funny.

Exclusive: MarVista Entertainment and Red Clay Studios are behind The Kiss List, a feature film that stars Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever), Parminder Nagra (ER), Emjay Anthony (Bad Moms) and Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). The YA project, which just wrapped production in Louisville, was directed by Sonía Sebastian, with screenwriter Ximena García Lecuona adapting Sara Jo Cluff’s book of the same name.
MarVista developed the feature-length movie under the direction of the company’s Head of Creative Affairs Hannah Pillemer, from Cluff’s 2019 book by Monster Ivy Publishing. Tulsa-based production company Red Clay Studios, founded last year by former Sony executive Cassidy Lunnen, enlisted a diverse cast and crew.
“Cluff’s story has all the elements to translate into a compelling feature in the young adult space, including relationships, healthy boundaries, jealousy, revenge, forgiveness, and ultimately self-love,” said Pillemer. “[MarVista has] had a lot of success in the YA content market,...

For as much as I love horror and the Halloween season, I am something of a softie at heart, so the Christmas season is the time of year when I really thrive. I love Christmas songs and holiday treats, and I will pretty much watch any and every movie that has some kind of a Yuletide angle to it. That being said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Michael Dougherty’s Krampus was a film that immediately captured my heart back when it was released in 2015, and it became one of my required viewings every December once it hit home media, ultimately becoming part of our traditional viewings to celebrate the holiday season. And I think that’s something most genre fans have done as well over the years, so I’m not sure that I have to do much to sell you on the film with this...

Christmas is coming early this year for horror fans as Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures are finally releasing "The Naughty Cut" of Michael Dougherty's holiday horror film, "Krampus." This new cut has never been seen before and comes to us from the fine and friendly folks at Scream Factory. Following his now-iconic cult horror film, "Trick 'r Treat," Dougherty's second journey into seasonal scares focused on the most not-so-wonderful time of the year, Christmas.
After a blow-up between members of the dysfunctional Engel family, young Max (Emjay Anthony) loses his holiday spirit, unleashing the wrath of the ancient European horned demon, Krampus. Now it's up to...

As someone who adores holiday horror stories and firmly believes Michael Dougherty's Krampus is one of the best movies released in the 2010s, I'm thrilled that Scream Factory's 4K / Blu-ray release of Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Krampus: The Naughty Cut (coming out on December 7th) is absolutely brimming with special features, including a bevy of new interviews, a fresh Dolby Atmos track, and additional scenes for fans to unwrap:
From the Press Release: This December, get ready for ho-ho-horror with Scream Factory’s release of Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Krampus: The Naughty Cut on December 7th, 2021. NBC has opted not to renew family drama Council of Dads, sources confirm to Deadline. The decision comes two episodes before the end of the drama’s Season 1 run. Co-star J. August Richards revealed the cancellation in an Instagram post, noting that “tonight is my favorite episode of the season!!!” (You can read his message to fans below)
Council of Dads premiered on March 24 following the season finale of This Is Us. It was the second consecutive drama series in the mold of This Is Us launched by NBC that did not go beyond one season, following last season’s The Village. Council of Dads ranks as one of NBC’s lowest rated drama series of the season. It joins fellow freshman NBC series Bluff City Law, Lincoln Rhyme, Perfect Harmony, Indebted and Sunnyside which all have been canceled. The one NBC first-year scripted show to make it to Season 2 is Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

The long-tail effect of “This Is Us” — the only network drama launch in recent memory to achieve its particular alchemical blend of popular and critical acclaim along with awards attention — remains very much in effect, as evidenced by “Council of Dads.” This new NBC drama would seem to take its network-mate as a template, incorporating, through shifts through time, a foundational family trauma that gives way to a clan whose structure’s unconventionality is, perhaps its strength.
Which means that “Council of Dads” — in which the widow and children of a recently deceased pillar of his community are attended to by a council of dads — has an unshakable solidity to its foundation. At its core, the family story here works, and mysteries seeded through time are intriguing enough to make staying tuned seem like an appealing proposition. Where “Council of Dads” falters is when it ventures too far onto the...

When Bruce Feiler was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his early forties, the author and television personality concocted a creative plan to ensure that his young twin daughters would grow up with all the love and wisdom he wanted to share with them, care of a “council of dads” who would step in should he pass away. Feiler then assembled a six-man council to do just that, tapped to pick up the slack after Feiler’s passing and guide his kiddos through a tough time with love and care. Feiler never had to activate his so-called council, though he did write a bestselling book about the scheme, and it eventually spawned Joan Rater and Tony Phelan’s gentle if scattershot NBC drama “Council of Dads.”

Stability is the name of the game at NBC as the network heads into the 2019-20 TV season.
With only one new drama and two new comedies on the fall schedule, the network is keeping things simple.
New Jimmy Smitts legal drama, Bluff City Law is taking the 10/9c post-The Voice slot.
NBC typically uses that slot to launch new dramas, but given that The Voice has been fading this season, there's a good chance it won't be the solid launch pad it once was.
This move leaves Manifest off the fall schedule to allow for uninterupted 2020 run, which is probably a good thing given the serialized nature of the series.
The Good Place is moving to 9/8c on a permanent basis for its fourth season. It will be sandwiched between new comedies, Perfect Harmony and Sunnyside.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Will & Grace are both being held for midseason.

We are just weeks away from Upfronts, and the broadcast networks have already started the process of picking up some of the pilots series.
We have some sad news for Jane the Virgin fans: The CW has confirmed it is no longer moving forward with Jane the Novella, an anthology series which would have been narrated by original series star Gina Rodriguez.
Each season was said to be about one of Jane Villanueva's novels
The first installment was to be set “at a Napa Valley vineyard, where family secrets (and family members) don’t stay buried for long,” per the network.
Related: Batwoman, Katy Keene, and Nancy Drew Ordered at CW
The cast for the pilot to included Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Jane the Virgin star Ivonne Coll.

NBC has ordered one-hour drama “Council of Dads” to series.
“Council of Dads” tells the story of an extended family when Scott, a “loving father of four, has his entire life’s plan thrown into upheaval by a cancer diagnosis [and] calls on a few of his closest allies to step in as back-up dads for every stage of his growing family’s life.”
The trusted group of role models Scott has assembled to help his family include his oldest friend Anthony, his AA sponsor Alrry and his surgeon and wife’s best friend Oliver. The three men agree to devote themselves to supporting and guiding Scott’s family through “all the triumphs and challenges life has to offer — just in case he ever can’t be there to do so himself.”

NBC has given a series order to drama pilot Council of Dads, from Doubt creators Joan Rater and Tony Phelan, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Universal TV.
The project, inspired by Bruce Feiler’s best-selling memoir, had been a standout throughout the pilot process. Having a similar sensibility to This Is Us, Council of Dads is considered a potential companion for the hit family drama.
Council of Dads, starring Sarah Wayne Callies, Clive Standen, Tom Everett Scott and J. August Richards, marks NBC’s third new series pickup for next season, joining legal drama Bluff City Law starring Jimmy Smits and Kal Penn’s immigrant comedy Sunnyside. All three come from NBC sibling Uni TV.
Feiler’s memoir The Council of Dads: My Daughters, My Illness and the Men Who Could Be Me was first adapted for TV eight years ago as a half-hour comedy by Peter Tolan, which went to...

Stars: Keanu Reeves, Alice Eve, Emily Alyn Lind, Thomas Middleditch, John Ortiz, Emjay Anthony, Aria Lyric Leabu, Nyasha Hatendi, Amber Rivera | Written by Stephen Hamel, Chad St. John | Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff
Replicas, directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, stars Keanu Reeves as a scientist who, in the midst of bringing consciousness to A.I., loses his wife and three kids in a tragic car accident that results in an obsession to collide his personal life with his work and be reunited with the family he lost. The concept is engaging but the execution in Replicas is sadly incredibly poor with a flat narrative.
The screenplay from writers Stephen Hamel and Chad St. John is condensed to trope after trope and only the final scene leaves any form of intrigue, but it comes far too late with lacklustre uneventful proceedings before. The plot itself is mildly interesting with emotionally compelling rhythm and...
