If Drake and Kendrick finally have a rap battle for the ages, it won’t be solely because of Kendrick’s recent verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” It (probably) won’t be over industry politics that we’re not privy to, pillow talking, or whatever other trivial issues have caused prior rap feuds. I’m not the biggest fan of rap beef because, as Snoop Dogg told Latto, it’s often a product of ego intensified by corporate forces looking to maintain division. But Drake and...

On Oscar night, details matter. Who are you wearing? What are you nominated for? Who won? Just don’t expect everyone to know the answers.
“What movie won?” Rick Hilton asked as he and wife Kathy Hilton assumed position at the end of a glamorous queue to get into Vanity Fair’s 30th anniversary Oscar party in Beverly Hills on Sunday after 10 p.m. They asked their son, Kathy says, but no clue. Fortunately, a gentleman standing directly in front of the couple had the answer. “It was Oppenheimer,” he said, not mentioning the awkwardness of Al Pacino’s best picture reveal. Some details can be saved for Monday morning. Plus, there are more rapid-fire questions to field.
What movie is that? Is it based on a true story? Who was the emcee?
“Oh, Jimmy Kimmel. I like him,” Rick said, smiling, in a totally relatable moment because who doesn’t love Jimmy Kimmel?...

The Wrexham effect is in full force.
Tom Brady has followed in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney by entering the U.K. soccer business.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion has become a minority owner of Birmingham City, which plays in the second-tier Championship division. Brady entered a partnership with the club’s new owners, Knighthead Capital Management. With the deal, the former NFL star becomes chairman of a new advisory board at St. Andrew’s and, according to Knighthood co-founder Tom Wagner, will “have a direct impact on the club,” which will benefit from his knowledge.
“Birmingham City is an iconic club with so much history and passion, and to be part of the Blues is a real honour for me,” said Brady. “I’ve been part of some amazing teams in my day, and I’m looking forward to applying my perspective to create that same success here in Birmingham.

Anthony Hamilton Jr. had always loved basketball.
So, when he hit high school and made the varsity team with college prospects looking bright, he was thrilled.
Then he tore his Acl. And his meniscus. And broke his tibia. His injuries–among the most devastating you can have as a basketball hopeful–sidelined him for three months. The day he came back to his high school team, “it happened again,” he says. Same leg. Same injury. It was his worst nightmare. Brittney and Cherelle Griner have been booked and busy. Just two days after attending the star-studded White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC on April 29, the WNBA star and her wife traveled to New York City to make their Met Gala debut. The couple were all smiles as they posed on the museum steps in monochromatic Calvin Klein designs - Brittney wore a champagne-colored suit and sheer top that showed off her chest tattoo, while Cherelle exuded classic glamour in a strapless white dress and black pointed-toe heels.
During an interview with Vogue, the pair spoke to red carpet host La La Anthony about the significance of their presence at the event. "It means everything just to be here with my wife . . . We get to see this event a lot, and to actually live it is amazing," said Brittney, who was named one of Time's most 100 influential people of 2023. Cherelle added,...

NBA stars like Russell Westbrook and James Harden have become famous for wearing over-the-top outfits as they walk from the locker room to the court. Justin Bieber was determined to make it to Vanity Fair’s Oscars party.
The star didn’t walk the red carpet for the event with his wife, Hailey, who posed at the Vanity Fair red carpet.
A source told Page Six, “He came in a back entrance and met Hailey inside.”
In an odd wardrobe choice, Justin was seen wearing a blanket over his shoulders with a source adding that, “Justin did not look well. He was hunched over and wearing a blanket.” Another source recalled him looking “tormented” and he seemed “weird.”

The ill-fated Russell Westbrook era has ended for the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve traded him to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal, getting guard and former Laker D’Angelo Russell back from Minnesota.
Utah is sending guard Mike Conley to the Timberwolves.
The Lakers will also get Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt from Utah. Minnesota also will receive Nickeil Alexander-Walker and picks, and the Jazz will get Juan Toscano-Anderson and a coveted first-round draft pick from the Lakers.
Westbrook may get a buyout from Utah in an effort to join a contending team.
Westbook was acquired from the Washington Wizards in 2021 in hopes of creating a “Big Three” with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They never jelled, and the Lakers missed the playoffs last season.
This year, the Lakers are just 25-30 and in 13th place in the Western Conference. They are two games behind in the race for a play-in spot,...

There hasn’t been a lot to celebrate for Lakers fans this season, but tonight LeBron James delivered something special. Off a pass from Russell Westbrook, James unleashed his trademark step-back fallaway jumper at the end of third quarter and scored his 38,388th point, making him the NBA’s all-time scoring leader.

LeBron James — by his own admission, and against all logic — was convinced that his Los Angeles Lakers could recreate the magic of The Heatles with the acquisition of Russell Westbrook, an aging 47 million-a-year slasher, when the team appeared to be in dire need of perimeter shooter/defenders. And, as nearly everyone but LeBron and Kobe Bryant’s former agent predicted, the trio of Anthony Davis (injured again, naturally), Westbrook and The King has not gelled, and their supporting parts, mostly just Patrick Beverley waving his hands like a lunatic and a twenty-something farmboy from Bumblefuck,...

At first, real estate agent Farrah Brittany was unsure if she wanted to do the new Netflix series Buying Beverly Hills, which charts the inner workings of The Agency, founded by her stepfather Mauricio Umansky.
“I definitely had qualms. Because, obviously, we’re making a show about our profession,” she said at the November premiere party for the new Netflix series, held at Wheelhouse LA. “Everything you do, you’re looking through the lens of, ‘How is this going to be received by our clients, by viewers?’ We want to look professional. So, I was definitely nervous.”
However, Brittany was heartened by the fact that Buying Beverly Hills — the latest in a slew of real-estate-focused reality shows including Oppenheim Group’s Selling Sunset, Million Dollar Listing, and the new Selling the Oc — actually features the intricacies of luxury real estate deals and transactions.

Faizal Khamisa, an anchor on the Canadian channel SportsNet, let his inner-Swiftie shine this morning, slipping in the name of every track on Midnights over the course of a broadcast on Friday, Oct. 21.
Unlike the Philadelphia traffic reporter who delivered an entire report filled with Beyoncé song titles in honor of Renaissance earlier this year, Khamisa didn’t get through all of Midnights in one breathless swoop. Still, his commitment to the bit was admirable, and as it happens, a lot of the song names on Midnights lend themselves well to sports broadcasting.

He didn’t just shine a spotlight on this idea with the Sept. 14 premiere of his Spring/Summer 2023 collection — it was practically a klieg light, producing a high-wattage event that indeed demonstrated Ford’s own power in the dual realms of style and celebrity.

King and Queen James have entered the building. On June 1, LeBron and Savannah James attended the premiere of Netflix's "Hustle" in Los Angeles, and they were the epitome of basketball royalty. The Associated Press is reporting that Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham will be the next Los Angeles Lakers coach.
The AP quoted someone “with knowledge of the decision” on the announcement. The report said Ham has accepted an offer, but did not reveal terms. He replaces Frank Vogel, who was fired at the end of the season after the Lakers failed to make the playoffs.
The 48-year-old Ham will become the 28th coach in Lakers history. He has never been a head coach, but was an assistant on the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018, including that team’s 2021 NBA title run. .
Last year’s Lakers team went 33-49, a major disappointment consider the team had aligned a “Big Three” by importing guard Russell Westbrook to join LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
James has already welcomed Ham via social media. “So damn Excited!!!!!!!!” James tweeted. “Congrats and welcome Coach DHam!!”

The reeling Los Angeles Lakers received a blast from the past on Saturday night. Lakers legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson blistered the team in a Twitter post following a 37-point loss to the Denver Nuggets.
“We as Lakers fans can accept being outplayed, but we deserve more than a lack of effort and no sense of urgency,” Johnson tweeted. “Owner Jeanie Buss, you deserve better.”
The Lakers are 21-22 and in seventh place in the Western conference standings. Much more was expected from the team after acquiring point guard Russell Westbrook in the off-season.
LeBron James avoided reporters after the game. The loss was the second-biggest defeat of his career. But Westbrook did take the bait and respond to Johnson’s attack, at least in a dismissive way.
“I do not have a reaction,” Westbrook said. “Everybody is entitled, in this world, to their opinion. Regardless of what that it is.

Exclusive: The pre-nba history of Black athletes in basketball is the subject of a documentary being developed by LA Lakers star Russell Westbrook and his Zero World Media (Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre), Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate Content and The Black Fives Foundation.

“The truth about Tulsa … was systematically ignored, perhaps because it was regarded as too honest, too painful a lesson for our young white ears,” Tom Hanks wrote in a New York Times opinion piece on June 4 calling for schools to teach about the 1921 race massacre — one of the worst acts of domestic terrorism in U.S. history — to students as early as the fifth grade. “I find the omission tragic, an opportunity missed, a teachable moment squandered,” he continued.
In fact, instructing about the two-day attack, in which white mobs ravaged more than 1,500 Black-owned homes and businesses in the city’s thriving Greenwood district (the area earned the moniker Black Wall Street), has largely fallen to the small screen. When HBO’s “Watchmen” debuted in 2019 with an opening scene depicting the brutality of the Tulsa massacre, some viewers were shocked to learn it was based on an actual event.

Now that everyone is cautiously re-entering society as things slowly open up, there’ve been a rash of bizarre public freakouts and general bad behavior by people who seem to have forgotten how to behave during the pandemic. But on Thursday’s “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah came up with a solid solution: A new airline where passengers are encouraged to beat each other up.
The gag came during a larger discussion of some of that post-pandemic unruliness. This included the time someone dumped popcorn on Russell Westbrook’s head during an NBA playoff game, increased worries at some retailers about violent customers, and air travel related violence — like the ‘crazy’ fight in a Miami airport and when someone attacked a flight attendant in-air.
After running all that down, Noah unveiled the solution, inspired by all that airline-related fighting. “The truth is, some people are just assholes who want to fight.

NBA all-star Russell Westbrook has teamed with Sony’s Incubation Lab to produce the basketball-themed short film “Why Not?”
The basketball star and the Incubation Lab also partnered with Jordan Brand for the project, with the purpose to elevate storytellers in the Black community, including the short’s co-writer and director Tevin Tavares and writer Lance Cameron Holloway.
According to a description of the project, “Why Not?” showcases the culture of Los Angeles’ Crenshaw neighborhood and aims to expose youth in marginalized communities to the ever-growing technology space.
The short focuses on a top high school basketball player who finds another way to impact his community when the sport is taken away from him: he teams up with a misunderstood neighborhood teen tech wizard.
“A lot of the youth in Black and Brown communities look at the tech space as an almost impossible field to exist within,” Westbrook says of the project.

This week 100 years ago, Tulsa, Oklahoma experienced one of the deadliest incidents of racial violence in United States history. A white mob spent two days laying siege to the prosperous Greenwood district known as “Black Wall Street.” From May 31 to June 1, 1921, the community was destroyed, scores of Black homes and businesses razed, and hundreds of Black people massacred with impunity. Death tolls are disputed, but 300 Black people are believed to have been killed. Thousands were left homeless; decades later, families are still struggling to recover lost wealth.
If you didn’t know the scope of the event — or if you’d never heard of it at all — you’re not alone. Even some veteran Black documentarians say they didn’t grasp the full story until they started making a movie about it.

One hundred years ago this week, a white mob attacked the Greenwood neighborhood of segregated Tulsa, Ok, a thriving business district known as “Black Wall Street” where many of the city’s roughly 10,000 Black residents lived.
The dispute centered on a charge of sexual assault by a black teenager against a white elevator operator. Fearing a lynching, an armed cadre of Black men confronted an equally armed group of white men outside the jail where the teen was being held. Shot were fired, and the aftermath saw a two-day spree of murder, assault, arson and looting, one of the worst incidents of racial violence in American history. The charges against the teen were later dropped.
As the country marks the awful event’s centennial, many TV networks are airing programs about the massacre, its aftermath and its historical impact. Here’s a roundup of some of programming and podcasts tied...

The History Channel has ordered a two-hour documentary film called ‘Tulsa Burning” about the 1921 Greenwood massacre in Tulsa, one of the worst acts of racist violence in American history.
The documentary will be directed by “Freedom Riders” filmmaker Stanley Nelson along with duPont Award winner Marco Williams, and NBA superstar Russell Westbrook will executive produce the documentary along with Donnell Beverly, president of Russell Westbrook Enterprises.
“Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (working title) will debut later this summer to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the massacre, in which a mob of white residents, many of them even deputized by city officials, attacked Black residents and burned local businesses and houses to the ground, destroying what was the wealthiest Black neighborhood in the country at the time known as “Black Wall Street.” Initial reports from the time recorded 36 people dead and thousands of Black residents interned in hospitals and large facilities.
