If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you crossed Air Bud with a Terminator, you’re in the very specific target demographic for Oliver Daly’s “A-x-l.” It’s a family movie about a boy and his robot dog, in which the dog is a giant metal monstrosity with glowing red eyes, permanently bared razor-sharp teeth, buzzsaws in its mouth and a brow that’s been welded into the “angry” position. At one point, it punches through a car while trying to murder somebody.
To quote Norville Barnes in “The Hudsucker Proxy”: “You know … for kids!”
There’s a reason why this canine is a killer. “A-x-l” is about a top secret government experiment to create the perfect “war dog,” which can kill people, diffuse bombs, blow itself up, and for some reason do laser disco shows.

Melissa McCarthy’s “The Happytime Murders” grossed $950,000 at the Thursday box office from 2,500 locations.
In comparison, McCarthy’s last film, “Life of the Party,” earned $700,000 and went on to make $17 million on its opening weekend. “The Boss” grossed $985,000 at the Thursday previews in 2016, but finished with $23.6 million. Independent trackers anticipate “The Happytime Murders” to gross between $13 million and $15 million this weekend.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film: No Sesame. All Street. “The Happytime Murders” is a filthy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks also star.

The box office has been surprisingly strong this August, and now it’s up to Melissa McCarthy and a gaggle of raunchy puppets to keep the momentum going.
That’s the hope, as “The Happytime Murders” aims for a mid-teens opening when the black comedy launches across 3,224 locations this weekend. Analysts are comparing the result to Seth Rogen’s bawdy R-rated animated comedy “Sausage Party.” Rogen’s film became a massive box office hit, picking up $140 million off a $19 million production budget. “The Happytime Murders,” however, carries double the price tag, at $40 million.

This week sees the release of Oliver Daly's A.X.L., in which a military robotic dog becomes sentient and befriends a young motorcyclist who helps him to hide. Robots are, of course, cool, so it's no surprise we've seen so many of them in films. They can be scary, funny, and you can heap all your Frankensteinian responsibility issues on them. You can even use them to try and probe where the border is between a soul and an expert system which can handle complex question-and-answer games. Not that I expect the A.X.L. film to take its story far into the realms of intelligent science fiction, but I'm not yet ruling it out as fun either. Because robots are cool. So let's make friendly robots the...

Exclusive: Entertainment One will finance and control worldwide distribution on Night Patrol, a high concept genre film that Ryan Prows will direct from a script he wrote with Shaye Ogbonna, Tim Cairo and Jake Gibson. David Goyer and Keith Levine will produce and Sierra/Affinity will handle international rights outside of eOne territories.
In Night Patrol, an African-American Lapd officer must put aside his differences with the area’s street gangs when he discovers a local police task force is harboring a horrific secret that endangers the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.
Prows, Ogbonna, Cairo and Gibson previously teamed on Lowlife, which Prows directed. That film premiered at Montreal’s Fantasia Fest last year and was released by IFC Midnight in April. Prows made the jump to feature after winning a Student Academy Award for his film, Narcocorrido, which he has since been developing into a feature.

The first trailer has been released for a sci-fi family film called A.X.L, which is said to be inspired by classic 80s films such as Short Circuit and Flight of the Navigator. "That's my dog - I want it back." Global Road Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for Oliver Daly's new movie Axl, or A.X.L., about a giant robot dog that becomes friends with a teenager kid. It's inspired by classic 80's family sci-fi movies like Short Circuit and Flight of the Navigator, adapted directly from Daly's own short film Miles, and is more of a kids movie (or "family movie") than an edgy sci-fi concept or action movie like Michael Bay would make. Alex Neustaedter stars as Miles, along with Becky G, Dorian Kingi (as Axl), Eric Etebari, Niko Guardado, Patricia De Leon, Alex MacNicoll, and Madeline Bertani. This is a cheesy trailer with the music, but I have a feeling this might be a cool film - even though it's meant for younger audiences, seems like good fun. I've got a cool short film for you to check out called Miles. It was written and directed by animator Oliver Daly. The film explores the relationship between a BMX rider and a robotic-type beast. This is a proof-of-concept short that is being used to help raise fund for a full-length feature film. I see a lot of potential for this being a high-octane style film. You can check out the official website for the robotic beast created for the film here if you want. Here's a detailed summary with some additional information:
