NBC is closing the loop on its new spring-summer 2019 scripted series by cancelling freshman drama The InBetween.
The news is not surprising. The InBetween, starring Harriet Dyer, did not debut until after the end of the 2018-19 broadcast season. It was the lowest-rated NBC summer 2019 series in Live+Same Day ratings, something for which delayed viewing bumps could not compensate.
The InBetween‘s core creative team already has moved on to another project. In a competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, CBS in September landed with penalty Queens, a police drama from The InBetween creator/executive producer Moira Kirland, executive producer Matt Gross and studio Universal TV, where Gross is under an overall deal.
The InBetween joins NBC’s new midseason 2019 series, comedy Abby’s and dramas The Village and The Enemy Within, which also were canceled after one season.
The InBetween centered on Cassie Bedford (Dyer), who was born with a rare ability.

Exclusive: In a competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, CBS has landed Queens, a police drama from The InBetween creator/executive producer Moira Kirland, executive producer Matt Gross and studio Universal TV, where Gross is under an overall deal.
Written by Kirland, the project has received a script commitment with penalty. Queens centers on a veteran homicide detective in Queens who takes on the most challenging case of her life — mentoring her new partner, a rookie cop whose Millennial outlook on the world clashes with the veteran’s Gen-x mentality — as these women work to solve the borough’s toughest crimes while also attempting to right a wrong from their past.
Kirland and Gross executive produce.

Following his two-year collaboration with Universal Television on Taken, veteran TV and film producer Matthew Gross has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio to develop new projects and oversee existing properties. Under the pact, Gross is joining the upcoming NBC drama series The InBetween, serving as executive producer alongside the project’s writer Moira Kirland (Madam Secretary) and producer David Heyman (Harry Potter film franchise).
The InBetween, a co-production between Universal International Studios and Universal Television, follows Cassie Bishop (Harriet Dyer), a young woman who was born with a gift of seeing and communicating with the dead. Although some call it a curse, Cassie can help the dead with their unresolved problems. The series also stars Paul Blackthorne as Detective Tom Hackett. Along with his new partner, former FBI Agent Damien Asante, and Cassie’s unique abilities, they solve some of the city’s most challenging cases.

“Taken” star Clive Standen says that despite it’s blockbuster origins, his new NBC series will be different than other big-budget action franchises. “We’ve got nothing compared to those $100 million action movies,” Standen said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday. “A lot of the action movies out there are all sound and fury signifying nothing. I don’t connect with big explosions and backflips and things. It has to be driven by heart, and it has to be driven by character.” The show, executive produced by Alex Cary and Matt Gross, serves as a pseudo-prequel to the Liam Neeson film.

When ABC cancelled Body of Proof, word was that cable channels like USA, TNT, and WGA America were interested in picking up the show for a fourth season.
ABC network president Paul Lee even said, "I would love to see Body of Proof find a good home for itself. I love Dana Delany."
The sentiment wasn't really a surprise since ABC Studios (which produces the crime drama) has been making the show at a deficit. They have had success selling it overseas but a fourth season would bring the series closer to having enough episodes for a lucrative syndication package.
Unfortunately, a new home couldn't be found and Body of Proof is staying cancelled.
Creator Matt Gross broke the bad news, writing, "Valiant effort from #abc studios to sell #bodyofproof to another net, Sad to report...

Geoffrey Arend offers plenty of proof that he's still happy with his series role.
In its third season, ABC's Tuesday medical mystery "Body of Proof" has made a number of changes, with some of the cast members who originally supported star Dana Delany now gone. As eager forensic pathology fellow Ethan Gross, Arend was among those kept, and he maintains he didn't think his job was in jeopardy.
"What actually kept me from thinking they were going to cut my character," he tells Zap2it, "was Windell (Middlebrooks, the co-star who plays Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Curtis Brumfield). I thought, 'They can't cut his character,' so I felt I was afforded some safety since my scenes are predominantly with him. I'm attached to the hip with him, and he's just gold."
Still, Arend muses, "I'm sure there are other gawky, cranelike actors ready and waiting, and that ABC has a list of.

ABC’s Body Of Proof is undergoing a rather extreme makeover in its third season — but one that is designed to give the show’s storytelling a jolt and not trim overhead.
In fact, on the heels of the three announced cast cuts — Nicholas Bishop (who plays Peter), John Carrol Lynch (Bud) and Sonja Sohn (Sam) — showrunner Matt Gross says that two new characters will join the mix.
The first, Det. Tommy Sullivan, is a former love interest of Megan’s who transfers to Philadelphia to win her back. The sexy cop will give his strong-willed ex a flirty hard...

ABC's new crime drama, Body of Proof, asks a question that television shows have been trying to figure out for decades, usually without positive results - Can a really irritating, annoying bastard be the center of a show? This time around, perhaps softening the caustic nature of things (perhaps not), Dana Delaney is our obnoxious misanthrope du jour.
Dr. Megan Hunt (Delaney) was Head of Neurosurgery at a top Philadelphia hospital five years ago, but a car accident left her with a condition that causes her to lose full control of her hands. Random numbness and cramping in your hands not being one of the chief qualifications of a brain surgeon, Dr. Hunt has shifted to a job as a Medical Examiner. Still hoping to return to neurosurgery one day, and having lost custody of her daughter in the divorce, Dr. Hunt is... cranky.

A list of the former Alaska governor's enemies has already gone viral, with some wags begging for inclusion. The Daily Beast suggests 17 potential future entries, from Margaret Cho to Chelsea Handler.
Beating back the critics isn't easy for any politician, but Sarah Palin has amassed so many enemies that syndicated Los Angeles columnist and FishbowlLA editor Tina Dupuy felt compelled to compile a list.

Dupuy created the list on her personal website last week and it was almost immediately reposted on Gawker, Politico, and The Houston Chronicle. Dana Delany left "Desperate Housewives" for her own starring gig on ABC's "Body of Proof," but will fans find her new pastures greener?
Disclaimer: These posts are not reviews -- shows often make tweaks to their pilot episodes between filming in the spring and their fall debuts. Full reviews will come closer to the premiere date.
What it is: ABC wants a bigger slice of the procedural pie, and "Body of Proof" might help. Equal parts police and medical drama, the pilot introduces us to Dr. Megan Hunt (Delany), a neurologist who becomes a Philadelphia medical examiner after a crippling car accident leaves her incapable of operating on the living. Her curt demeanor makes professional and personal interactions a bit difficult as well.
Who's making it: Relative TV newcomer Christopher Murphey penned the pilot, and he'll be producing along with "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Day Break" alum Matt Gross.

Earlier today, ABC announced its fall schedule for the upcoming 2010-2011 season and introduced several new shows. One of them is "Body of Proof", a new drama which will be airing on Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. The new series will star Dana Delaney (who recently starred on Desperate Housewives) as a neurosurgeon. ABC has released two clips for the upcoming series.
Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) was in a class of her own, a brilliant neurosurgeon at the top of her game. Her world is turned upside down when a devastating car accident puts an end to her time in the operating room. Megan resumes her career as a medical examiner determined to solve the puzzle of who or what killed the victims. Megan’s instincts are sharp, but she’s developed a reputation for graying the lines of where her job ends and where the police department’s begins.

ABC on Tuesday picked up two more pilots, a new medical drama from "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes, and "Body of Evidence," both from ABC Studios.
"Off the Map," executive produced by Rhimes, revolves around three doctors, each anxious for a fresh start. They leave the comfort of the States to work at an isolated tropical clinic, where they face both exotic and unusual medical challenges as well as personal ones.
"Grey's Anatomy" co-exec producer Jenna Bans wrote the script and is executive producing with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
"Body of Evidence," is a procedural that centers on Megan Hunt, a former neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner who brings a unique and crime-solving perspective to the Me's office that often puts her at odds with her superiors.
Chris Murphey wrote the script and is exec producing with Matt Gross, on whose idea the project is based.
Gross described "Body of Evidence" as "a female postmortem 'House'.
