The new Music Supervisor category this Emmy season finally honors the supervisor’s creative contribution to narrative storytelling and music aesthetic: Licensing songs that are appropriately iconic and emotionally resonant, while touting some of the hottest new talent.
Here are the nominees: Thomas Golubic (“Better Call Saul” — “Sunk Costs”), Susan Jacobs (“Big Little Lies” — “You Get What You Need”), Manish Raval, Jonathan Leahy, Tom Wolfe (“Girls”— “Goodbye Tour”), Zach Cowie, Kerri Drootin (“Master of None” — “Amarsi Un Po”), and Nora Felder (“Stranger Things” — “Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street”).
The results included three female supervisors (Jacobs, Drootin, and Felder) and demonstrated the brand power of HBO (“Big Little Lies,” “Girls”) and Netflix (“Master of None,” “Stranger Things”). But in the end, it came down to a battle of dueling playlists.

Bette Gordon isn't exactly a prolific filmmaker but she is an indie superstar, making the movies she wants to make in her own way. The result is that we don't get to see a whole lot of her work but when a new one comes around, it's worth taking note.
Gordon's latest is The Drowning, a psychological thriller based on Pat Barker's acclaimed novel "Border Crossing."
Josh Charles stars as Tom Seymour, as a forensic psychologist who is still haunted by his involvement in a case years before which sent a young boy named Danny Miller to prison for a terrible crime. Now years later, the boy is a young man out on release and he's made a re-appearance in Tom's life and it doesn't appear to be accidental.

Last Week’S Review: Jimmy Is, Once Again, ‘A Little Bit Crooked’
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 3, Episode 3, “Sunk Costs.”]
Case Summary
While technically last week gave us our first glimpse of Gus Fring, here we really see the man in action in his first one-on-one scene with Mike. It’s just one scene, early in the episode, but the menace Giancarlo Esposito can bring to one relatively subdued encounter remains a thing of wonder. Not that Mike is any less scary. Consider the calm but firm way he makes it clear to Gus that he is not done with the Salamancas, and his methodical actions over the course of the episode that lead directly to Salamanca henchmen getting arrested at the border.
Meanwhile, the consequences for Jimmy’s outrage get unveiled in stark detail: Chuck is pressing charges, in a deliberate attempt to get Jimmy disbarred — which will very likely happen if Jimmy ends up with a felony on his record.

Last Week's Review: 'Orphan Black' Season 4, Episode 2, 'Transgressive Border Crossing': Going Down the Rabbit Hole Cloning AroundThings with Sarah continued to grow worse in this week's continuation of the Neolutionist storyline (that has us all freaking out about the potential existence of bugs in our jaws). Growing desperate for answers, the leading clone turned to her foster brother for support but was rebuffed yet again as he continued to work his own stuff out, forcing Sarah to take some drastic measures. Rather than live with a cheek worm threatening to explode all over her face with just one wrong move, she fell back into her Beth persona and trusted a complete stranger to perform surgery on her. It was a rather Sarah thing to do despite all warnings, so it was lucky for her that Ferdinand returned just in time to save her hide. You've got to love his...

The War Game is among the films screening in Berwick Berwick-upon-Tweed celebrates the 11th edition of its Film and Media Arts Festival from September 23 to 27. Following on from last year's theme of Border Crossing, the 2015 festival expands even further into nebulous territories by taking the theme of Fact or Fiction to encourage visitors and viewers to navigate, explore and question the overlapping borders between fact and fantasy, journalism and propaganda, and preconceived conceptions of documentary and narrative film.
Alongside the Fact or Fiction titles - which include Peter Watkins's long-censored The War Game (1965) and Vampir-Cuadecuc (Pere Portabella, 1970), one of the strangest behind-the-scenes films ever made (transforming Jess Franco's Count Dracula (1970) with Christopher Lee into something genuinely otherworldly) - the 2015 festival also introduces a new strand: Berwick New Cinema. This section includes films such as Androids Dream (Ion de Sosa, 2014), Abdul & Hamza (Marko Grba Singh, 2015) and A Spell Of Fever.
