Everybody likes a cuddle, so why has the man who pioneered the global Free Hugs movement gone off in a huff? Elizabeth Day gets touchy feely in order to find out
The man in front of me has fear in his eyes. Fear, suspicion, and something else, something more subtle, that I realise after a few seconds is pity. It is the evening rush hour in London and I am standing in the middle of Carnaby Street holding aloft a placard that reads: "Free Hugs". My mission is simply to reach out to strangers, clasp them close and make them feel better about their day – no strings attached. But this man isn't convinced.
"What are you selling?" he asks.
"Nothing," I explain. "We're just offering hugs to people. For free."
The man slips his iPhone out of his jacket pocket and takes a photo, as if he cannot quite believe what he is seeing.

The Australian rock band ‘Sick Puppies’ are more than up and mobile, they are out right soaring. With their third album ‘Tri Polar’ and the official release of the bands Hulu Channel, things are looking pretty good. The Sick Puppies, from Australia, formed in 1997 and cut their first studio album ‘Welcome to the Real World’ in 2001. Being a smash in the land down under, Sick Puppies won the annual ‘Triple J Unearthed’ Australian band competition that year. From there they signed with Paul Stepanek Management and moved to La, CA without the original drummer. Due to an ad that Shimon Moore and Emma Anzai posted in Craig’s List, fortune came knockin’ when...

The Sick Puppies music video for “Riptide” touches upon several political and social issues within society, proving that music can really make a difference in the world, if you take a little time to decipher a track’s meaning. It was very brave of you, Sick Puppies, to tackle such a wide range of topics of concern. We commend you. “Riptide” is their fourth single off of the band’s third full-length album, Tri-Polar, which was released in 2009. The alternative rock group continues to impact the world by auctioning off a signed acoustic guitar for the “Emi Family 4 Japan” Ebay Auction. All funds raised will be used towards the Japanese Red [...]...

With this broadcast, you get a close look at Shim Moore, Emma Anzai and Mark Goodwin as they discuss their formation, band name and variety of favorite recording artists from My Chemical Romance to Evanescence. There is just something more stimulating about australian accents that american accents lack. Or is it just the power of the Sick Puppies in general? Sick Puppies have gone in a new direction with the release of Polar Opposite on March 1st. The eight-song release, produced by Rock Mafia, features re-imagined tracks from their sophomore album, Tri-Polar, plus their first hit, “All the Same” from their debut album. Polar Opposite is now available exclusively at WalMart and all digital retailers. We give Sick Puppies props. Being able to add a new spin to tracks off of an album that already sold more than a quarter-million copies proves the group is one “sickly” talented trio. We’ll brag just a tad more about the Australian sensation. Tri-Polar has produced three top ten singles, including the # 1 Rock track, [...]...

It would be unlikely to find Jersey Shore reality star, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, “fist pumping” to the tunes of the alternative rock band, Sick Puppies. The odd pair met up on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on January 3rd. The Australian trio has stayed afloat in the music world for over a decade. The rock band gained buzz when they won the YouTube Video of the Year award for “All The Same” back in 2006. Their third studio album, Tri-Polar, which was released in 2009, has been climbing up the Billboard Charts with hit singles, “You’re Going Down” and “Odd One.” The band performed their third single, “Maybe” on [...]...

I hope everyone out there survived their New Years celebrations more or less intact. I'm a bit in the "less" column myself, but I had fun and that's what's really important. I think. Anyway we're diving back into a whole new year of television that is, at least so far, not significantly different than the previous year of television. Kind of anti-climactic really. Now, my newly acquired cast makes it really tricky to type, so with pre-emptive apologies for mistakes, here's you Monday night TV:
8:00pm: "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS. 15th season premiere. They're in Miami Beach, which doesn't make much sense since most of the antiques we have here are people, not furniture. Maybe they'll go around evaluating people's meemaws.
"The Bachelor" on ABC. 15th season premiere.
"Enough Already with Peter Walsh" on Own. Series premiere. Has anyone watched the new Oprah Channel yet? Anyone plan to?

Two-thirds of Sick Puppies are from Australia. The other is from Orange County, California, where they have at least half a dozen Outback steakhouses. So they brought a bit of Aussie flavor when they dropped by the offices of Fox All Access to perform and chat with host Chris Leary.
Part one of the video features the band playing their 2006 hit, “All The Same,” and talking about how the band got their big break.
Coming soon: Part two of the video, featuring a live performance of their current hit, “Maybe.”

Rockers Sick Puppies have just unveiled a new Vimby webisode featuring their new single “Maybe”, which comes off the bands third studio album Tri-Polar. In the clip the band talks about the meaning behind their latest single: “To me it was about the band moving over to the States,” says vocalist Shimon Moore. He also recalls the bands struggle moving to the Us: “We moved over here with nothing. With a couple of guitars and the money we spent two years saving up. The decision actually followed our dream of playing music everyday.” The band recently launched their YouTube moderator page where fans can ask Sick Puppies anything they want. The [...]...
