Lab Rats is the new splat-tastic body horror from British collective Team Chameleon. Their last film ‘6 Shooter’ about killer worms was shot for a mere £70 and played at Frightfest and festivals around the world. After a successful Kickstarter campaign (back in March) and backing from Eli Roth and Emily Booth, Lab Rats is coming at audiences with more melting body parts, oozing pustules and all manners of gooey practical effects! Just check out the new trailer for proof of that!
Lab Rats follows Kat and her eco-warrior friends as they embark on a mission to expose bio-chemistry company Ring-Amnion as liars, following a tip-off that they ran an animal testing lab. Despite their public profile claiming otherwise; it soon becomes clear that Ring-Amnion are willing to test on more than just animals.

There was a time, strange as it seems to recall, when the best a Whovian could expect at Easter was a ropey chocolate egg inside a cardboard Tardis bearing a slightly unfortunate picture of an apparently excited Peter Davison. This 1982 offering from Suchard, the noted Swiss purveyor of over-sweetened chocolate to the short-trousered refugees of the late seventies (your correspondent among them), was pretty much it for Easter-flavoured Time Lordiness.
That was until Russell the T. came along and managed to re-brand both Easter and Christmas as times of Gallifreyan goodness, with the very first episode of new-Who, Rose, broadcast on Easter Saturday in 2005. The last few years have seen the show scheduled later in the year, leaving us all munching on forlorn eggs decorated with Teletubby-coloured Daleks and Matt Smith’s eyebrowless, foot-shaped mug.
But never fear, in light of the Beeb’s continuing seasonal intransigence, the Horror Channel...

Report by Adrian Smith
On Saturday in the shadow of Westminster Abbey, amidst the power-hungry elite of Whitehall and Downing Street, gathered an even more sinister and corrupting influence. Darth Vader rubbed shoulders with evil twins, corrupted children, vampires, zombies and even Jack the Ripper. Overseeing this evil conclave were directors whose films were so depraved that sometimes sick bags were supplied to the audience.
Horror film buffs were of course overjoyed at the fantastic selection of stars at this Hammer and Horror Film event. Representing the Bond girls were Caroline Munro, Caron Gardner, Martine Beswick and Madeline Smith.

There can never be enough retrospectives on the slasher genre, and Fangoria broke the news about a documentary that looks at my favorite kind of flick. No word yet on a release date.
So this is a totally different approach to the subject matter, with interviewees who are a little cultier than usual and generally not as ubiquitous on genre docus,” he continues. “Hence we have J.S. Cardone, who directed one of my fave slasher films The Slayer and later wrote and produced the Stepfather and Prom Night remakes; Corey Feldman, who killed Jason in Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter; Scott Spiegel of Hostel and Intruder fame; legendary Brit director Norman J. Warren; Friday The 13th: The New Blood’s John Carl Buechler; and such recent genre kingpins as Patrick Lussier, who edited the Scream movies and directed My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry, Adam Green of Hatchet,...

Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Antonioni and Steven Spielberg; what do they have in common? Well, quite obviously they are all extremely well known directors. The other thing they have in common is that they are all male. How often when reading a newspaper, a magazine or watching a tv show do you get to hear about female directors?
The answer is: rarely. Men dominate film to the extent that women account for only 6% of the industry’s directors, and only 12% of its screenwriters.
The seventh Birds Eye View Film Festival intends to make a sizeable contribution in adjusting the balance. The festival opened this Monday, 7th March - the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day - and runs for two weeks. Its aim is simple: to increase the profile of women directors, actors and screenwriters by celebrating the abundance of work that comes from the female sector of the industry.

You know, several times a day we think about how cool it would be to open up shop across the pond so that we could easily be there for all of the great shit they have going on. Film4 Frightfest, great Blu-ray editions we get the shaft on here, the seductive usage of the word "randy" ... so very much to love. Now, to further make us drool, The Horror Channel UK (yes, they have one of those there, too) is churning out another dosage of fright to get fans watching the carnage, Cruel Britannia.

The Horror Channel is to celebrate the best of contemporary British horror with Cruel Britannia – a special season of UK TV premieres which showcases some of the finest home-grown directorial talent around.
Kick-starting the season on Friday 8th April is the UK TV premiere of Steven Sheil’s debut feature Mum & Dad – a film described as “one of the defining British horrors of its generation”. Imbued with a terrifying ferocity, it centres around a young Polish immigrant (Holby City’s Olga Fedori) who finds herself imprisoned in a suburban House of Horrors. It also stars Perry Benson (This Is England, Somers Town).
This is followed by the UK TV premiere of Gerard Johnson’s debut, the dark, brutal and bleakly amusing Tony: London Serial Killer, transmitting on Friday 15th April. It has drawn favourable comparisons to John McNaughton’s seminal Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and features a star-making...

Tobe Hooper made one of the best horror films ever made in the history of film so far. That’s an atomic fact. No two ways about it. In his honour, The Horror Channel, are dedicating two evenings to his work and they’ve got an exclusive interview with the man who put Leatherface and chainsaws onto the cultural map.

Given the recent furore over certain Sky Sports presenters being a bunch of sexist bastards, it seems a relevant time to celebrate the female contribution to cinema – which is still largely unappreciated with women directors still making up a small percentage of directors and other creatives. But they’re awesome and they’ve now got their own festival to show off their work.
We’ve been sent over the press release and festival line up. The Bird’s Eye View Film Festival takes place in London from March 8th – 17th. The programme includes new films, documentaries, retrospectives and panel discussions.

The hotly anticipated Birds Eye View Film Festival 2011 (Bev) programme has been announced by Rosamund Pike at a private launch event on 25 January. The Festival returns for its seventh annual celebration of women filmmakers from 8-17 March at BFI Southbank, the Ica the Southbank Centre, with...

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.
In the face of fellow Leicester Square-based festival and horror heavy hitter, Film4 Frightfest, GoreZone (or Gz, as the magazine has rebranded) would appear to be the underdog. Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

Nucleus Films are set to release the definitive guide to the Video Nasties phenomenon next month – covering all the dirty secrets of one of the most controversial eras in the history of British film. For the first time on DVD, all 72 films that fell foul of the Director of Public Prosecutions are trailer-featured with special intros for each title, in a rather snazzy three-disc collector’s edition box-set, alongside a brand new documentary - Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship And Videotape, directed by Jake West. Disc One presents the 39 titles that were successfully prosecuted in UK courts and deemed liable to deprave and corrupt. These included: ‘Absurd’, ‘Cannibal Holocaust’, ‘The Driller Killer’, ‘I Spit on Your Grave’, ‘Nightmares in a Damaged Brain’, ‘Snuff’ & ‘Zombie Flesh-Eaters’. Disc Two presents the 33 titles that were initially banned, but then subsequently acquitted and removed from the Dpp's list. These included: ‘Death Trap’, ‘Deep River...

The Gorezone Internation Film Festival begins October 2nd and Cyrus will premiere with Corey Haim's last film also showing. Cyrus is a suitable horror production for Gorezone. In the film a rural farmer turns into a multiple murderer when he finds his wife cheating. This sounds too familiar, minus the murderer part. In Haim's New Terminal Hotel things are dark and foreboding as a writer seeks inspiration. Two worthy entries at the festival here. Hosting are Emily Booth and Christa Campbell. Have a read of the Cyrus plotline here. Details on New Terminal Hotel and the Gorezone Film Festival are below.
A plot summary and overview of Cyrus here:
"A small independent news crew, made up of reporter Maria and her camera man Tom, investigates a series of unexplained disappearances in a small Midwestern county. The story leads them to the isolated town of Arkham Heights, where they find themselves interviewing Emmett,...

This was truly a unique treat for us. We recently got a chance to catch up with Bryn Hammond (Editor/Company Director) and Emily Booth (Columnist) of Europe's best selling monthly horror magazine 'GoreZone' for a little Q and A. If you're not familiar with 'GoreZone' you soon will be as we go behind the pages to see what makes the staff and writers of the popular horror rag tick...

Question: GoreZone Magazine has such a dramatic look from other horror magazines why? What made you do it? Why use the tag line ‘Vogue for horror fans’?
Bryn Hammond : Well first and foremost I really don’t read very many horror magazines anymore. The horror boom was great in the 90’s and I loved Fangoria, but it lost that cutting edge it had and I stopped buying it. The recent rumours are very sad.

A few lucky folks will be taking in the awesomeness of Michael Fassbender, Dominic Purcell, Henry Cavill and Emily Booth in Joel Schumacher's latest shocker, Blood Creek (review). I must admit I’m a little jealous that a few folks will be taking in Fassbender and Cavill in the same film. I think it’s about time I catch up with this one.
Winners: Congrats to Corey Derouin, Ollie Sloan, Michael R. Allen.
The other little contest we were running was the largely overlooked sci-fi horror Pandorum (review) from German director Christian Alvart starring the talents of Dennis Quaid, Cam Gigandet and the always awesome Ben Foster.
Winner: Congrats to Dean Franklin for taking that one home.
DVDs will be shipping shortly so keep your eyes peeled on your mailboxes for the goodies. If you want to win more free stuff from us, it’s easy: just stay tuned...

CraveOnline launched MotoMan, its latest original web series today, that "covers new cars, classic cars and all things car lifestyle. In a nutshell, MotoMan drives cars you can’t." The debut episode (above) waxes auto-philosophical for a few minutes on whether a luxury cars are more about what's under the hood or the logo on top of it. [CraveOnline] Hans Zimmer didn't compose the theme song for The Guild, but what if he did? Brian “Tweex” Arnold mused on this question, coming up with a remixed intro theme song on his site [Tweex]music, combining the beefed up Season 3 theme with Zimmer's Pirates of the Caribbean. He even re-edited a clip from Season 3 with the new intro theme.
