Yo, Joe! The crossover your inner child has been screaming for became a reality after Paramount shared plans to develop a G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover film! Paramount Pictures teased the project in last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and now it’s official! Steven Spielberg is producing the live-action clash of two of the most legendary properties in entertainment, with the plot inspired by a story in the 1980s Marvel-published comics. No director is attached to the project, at least not yet. Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura returns alongside Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy.
Despite the story of the G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover taking inspiration from the Marvel comics era, both franchises are gaining popularity with new fans thanks to the current comic book runs published by Skybound. Skybound has published issues of the G.I. Joe comics Duke and Cobra Commander for several months,...

The trailer for "X-Men '97," the revival of the cartoon series beloved by '90s kids everywhere, recently premiered. That means it's that time again — that time when nerds like me try to get you superhero movie/TV fans to read some dang comics.
"X-Men" itself was enthusiastic about adapting comic stories, particularly ones written by Chris Claremont during his legendary 17-year-long run on "X-Men". Season 1 of "X-Men" closed out with the two-part time-travel comic "Days of Future Past" and then, in season 3, the show adapted both the original "Phoenix Saga" and "The Dark Phoenix Saga."
Larry Houston, the original producer/director of "X-Men," is a big fan of the comics and made the show with attention to the details of the source material. Houston is back as a consulting producer on "X-Men '97" and head writer Beau DeMayo recruited "X-Men" fans as his team, feeling that enthusiasm about the...

After a brief explosion during the pandemic, the comics industry is undergoing an existential crisis. It faces tumultuous sales at local comic shops, and the creative malaise audiences felt this year in the superhero movie genre is well-reflected on the publishing side of Marvel and DC, the industry’s two biggest publishers. To say that most of the output from these companies lacks spark is to put it mildly.
Still, there were plenty of bright spots this year for the medium. While Mattel’s Barbie was a hit on the big screen, it was Hasbro’s Transformers comic that ruled the toy-inspired genre in print. And though Marvel’s actual comic books struggled creatively this year, a number of creators managed to craft moving and innovative stories inspired by Marvel (see: I Am Stan, a graphic novel biography of Stan Lee and The Super Hero’s Journey).

For me, Black Widow has always been one of those characters that works best as a guest star, or a co-star in a book, rather than headlining her own. I’m not entirely sure why, as she’s now quite a strong well defined character, but her high points have been partnering Daredevil back in the day, a run I still love, and as part of groups like the Champions and the Avengers. Her Russian spy roots are still in evidence today with her love/hate relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D. Perhaps that’s the problem, Natasha is just too versatile as a character. She can do straight solo superheroics, she can do Bourne style spy stuff, and she can do team books. All that being said, when handled well she’s a great character,...

I’ve always loved Jessica Jones, ever since her first appearance back in 2001. (Nineteen years?! where did that go) Her original series, Alias, was created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, with fab David Mack covers, and is still well worth a read today. She was created for the mature reader Max imprint and although since she has strayed into mainstream Marvel Avengers books, which tone her down a little too much, I’m pleased to see here she is back to her mature readers only roots. I haven’t kept up with every book she has been in, due to Marvel’s continual issuing of first issues and even putting her back in her costume, but usually things end up righting themselves, and this book looks like the one to do it.

Welcome back to another installment of Panel Discussion – this time featuring reviews of a handful of books that I’ve recently added to my pull list, including The Punisher, West Coast Avengers and La Muerta.
The Punisher #3
Matt Rosenberg’s fantastic run on Punisher continues with issue three, which picks up from the cliffhanger ending of #2 as Daredevil tries to bring Frank Castle to justice, only for the subway car their in to become overrun with numerous enemies, all wanting the massive bounty on the Punisher’s head. Which means this issue is action-packed, and I do mean Action packed. From beginning to almost end, The Punisher #3 is non-stop action and violence. Which means there’s not much room for story… making this book feel a little like a filler release. Not a bad example of a filler book, more a pause in the story if you will. And whilst...

When it comes to the more famous romantic couplings the X-Men can lay claim to, it’s probably safe to say that pretty much everybody is familiar with pairings like Jean Grey and Cyclops or Rogue and Gambit. But, to comic book readers, there’s one that we haven’t really seen explored outside of this medium, and that’s Kitty Pryde and Colossus.
But when we take what’s unfolding in the books into account, maybe that’ll change soon enough, as the House of Ideas are allowing us to follow those two fan favorite mutants to the altar in the upcoming X-Men Wedding Special #1.
