Vernon Whitlock III, (writer/director/producer) born and raised in St.
Louis, Missouri holds a Masters of Arts in Film/Screenwriting and a
Bachelors of Arts in Film Production from Webster University - St.
Louis, Missouri.
Whitlock's thesis film, "Full Circle" has screened in several national festivals, such as the Urbanworld Film Festival 2000. He has won numerous awards, including: 1st Place, "Best Short Film", Black Film.Com 2001; Webster University's "Best Color Short Film", 2000; and an Emmy in the category of "University Student Production", in the St. Louis/Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, 1998. He also is a producer on "Streetballers", the latest film (2009) produced and shot entirely in St. Louis, Mo. "Streetballers" premiered in the Hollywood Black Film Festival on June 7, 2008.
In his first dramatic screenplay, "Sugar on the Floor", Whitlock was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Best Screenplay, in Urbanworld's 2004 screenplay competition. Likewise his screenplay (co-written with Matt Krentz), "The Blaze Brothers", won 1st place (action category) in the 11th annual Fade-In Magazine Screenplay Awards one of the largest screenplay contest in the world.
Recently, "The Blaze Brothers" was entered in the (Academy-Award sponsored) Nicholl Fellowships in screenwriting, the most prestigious screenplay contest in the world (over 5300 writers entered). The Blaze Brothers, an ultra cool, action screenplay, placed in the semi-final round (top 30 out of 5200) a huge feat, considering its genre.
Whitlock and Krentz have recently created Blaze Brothers Entertainment, a multi-platform production company in which they plan to produce feature film scripts, graphic novels, and video games.
Currently, Whitlock is hard at work preparing to direct his first feature film "Sugar On The Floor", with Matt Krentz as producer.
