- Democrat Congressional representative from Louisiana, 20 March 1973 - 3 January 1991. Her husband, Hale Boggs, was serving as a US congressman from Louisiana, when a plane in which he was a passenger crashed in Alaska on 16 October 1972. Neither the plane nor the bodies of any crash victims were ever found. Boggs was reelected to his Congressional seat in November, while missing. Congress declared the seat vacant on 3 January 1973, and Lindy won a special election to fill her husband's Congressional seat. She did not seek reelection in 1990.
