London, July 31 (Ians) An extraordinary incident happened in the gripping fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval when England believed they dismissed premier Australia batter Steve Smith at the stroke of lunch on Day Five. But the batter was ruled not out, as England skipper Ben Stokes put down a crucial chance at leg slip.
The incident happened in the 66th over, with Smith batting on 39 when off-spinner Moeen Ali bowled a loopy delivery and the ball seemingly took the batter’s glove edge and popped into the hands of Stokes, who jumped to take a one-handed catch by fully stretching his right arm.
But the ball popped out of Stokes’ hands in a bid to land on the grass, before hitting the ground. Later, TV replays also seemed to suggest that Stokes was aware that it wasn’t a clean catch and was not in full control of the ball,...

London, July 30 (Ians) Retiring veteran England fast-bowler Stuart Broad received a guard of honour from Australia while walking out to bat one for one last time in Test cricket during Day Four of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval on Sunday.

As Broad and Anderson walked out to resume England’s innings from 389/9 in their second innings, they were greeted by a guard of honour from the Australia team and a standing ovation from a packed crowd of spectators at the Oval.

Sydney, May 22 (Ians) India and Australia women's cricket series should have a perpetual trophy designed and named on past women cricketers just like men's series has in the form of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, said Mel Jones, former Australia woman cricketer and member of International Cricket Council's (Icc) women's committee.
"It's certainly great to have something like the Border-Gavaskar, but that's the men's lens of what's happened in the past. So we should just do it our way for the women's game, and maybe we can come up with something a little bit different," Jones told cricket.com.au.
India and Australia women played their first Test back in 1977 at Perth which the host won by 147 runs.
Over the next 44 years, the teams have played eight more Tests. In all, the Aussies and Indians have played nine Tests, with Australia leading the head-to-head 4-0. Five matches have ended as draw.

Exclusive: Days after Oscar winner Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions announced a first look feature production deal with Amazon Studios, the first project is moving forward: The Fighting Shirley Chisholm in which Davis will produce and star as the U.S. Representative who was both the first woman and the first person of color to seek a major American political party’s nomination for President.
Amazon studios acquired the title in what we understand was a fierce bidding war, with Homegrown Pictures’ Stephanie Allain and Mel Jones producing with JuVee. Maggie Betts (Novitiate) will direct the screenplay written by Emmy-nominated writer Adam Countee.
Countee had long been interested in telling Chisholm’s story and his research led him to write the feature script on spec about the trailblazing congresswoman who never backed down as her bid drew ridicule and bigoted backlash.
