Tina Perry will replace Erik Logan atop Oprah Winfrey’s Own TV network. Logan is leaving for a role at the World Surf League — a surfing-event company that dabbles in TV.
Perry will technically be the cable channel’s general manager, while Logan was its president. The difference in title is merely due to how Discovery does things — Perry will still report directly to Own chairman/CEO Winfrey and oversee all business and creative areas.
Discovery, Inc. paid $70 million late last year to become the majority shareholder in Own, hence the title thing. Own was previously owned 50-50 by Discovery and Oprah’s Harpo.

Another long-time executive from Oprah Winfrey’s inner circle is out. After a 18-year stint as president of Harpo Films, Kate Forte was let go today. While the company continues to have a couple of projects in development at HBO where the company has been under a deal since 2008, Harpo Films has little to show for its efforts in the past 5 years as its last projects to reach fruition were the 2007 movie The Great Debaters, one of only two features produced by the unit, and 2007 ABC telefilm Mitch Albom’s For One More Day. Harpo Films is a vestige of old times — it was active in the broadcast movie business, doing six films for ABC between 1997 and 2007. But the demand for long-form projects, especially on the broadcast side, has dried out. And now the Los Angeles-based Harpo Films will de facto fold. As part of a restructuring, its larger sibling production company,...

The Oprah Winfrey Network is bringing some old friends to its schedule. Own had bought the exclusive cable rights to both Rachael Ray and The Nate Berkus Show. “Rachael and Nate are a natural fit for Own’s expanding daytime programming lineup. It will be great to have Rachael’s energy and Nate’s upbeat presence on our air,” said Own president Erik Logan. Starting at 9 Am on September 10, the network will broadcast two episodes of each show back-to-back. Both shows are already part of Oprah’s empire. Winfrey’s Harpo Studios is one of the producers of Rachael Ray, along with CBS Television Distribution, Watch Entertainment and Scripps Network. The show debuted in syndication in 2006. Harpo Studios was also one of the production companies, along with Sony Pictures Television, behind The Nate Berkus Show. A spin-off of Oprah’s talk show, the syndicated Nate Berkus Show ran from September 13 2010 to May 24, 2012 before being cancelled.
