- Following the sudden passing of Duane Allman, it was decided that Berry Oakley be the new leader of the band. However, Oakley wasn't up to the task and felt the management were pressuring him.
- In 1972 he had a relationship with Julia Negron. Sadly, Berry died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident when he was only 24. At that time Julia was six months pregnant from their son, Berry Duane Oakley, who never met his father. He was born on March 30, 1973.
