Child 44 is just a great novel. I first read it when it hit paper back and have re-read it several times. A few years ago Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scot Free acquired the film rights with Ridley lined up to direct and they hired Richard Price to write the script. Then nothing happened, until now.
Deadline is reporting Safe House director Daniel Espinosa is close to signing on to direct the films based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel.

YouTube will launch an online competition titled ‘Your Film festival’ on February 2, 2012. Winners of this short film competition will get a grant of $500,000 and a chance to make a film with director Ridley Scott’s production company Scot Free.
The final ten films, as voted by the public, will be screened at the Venice Film Festival.
The film festival will accept entries until March 31, 2012 followed by the selection of 50 semi-finalists by Scott’s production company.
Entrants can make the film about any subject in any genre; however the film can be no longer than 15 minutes in length and must not have been distributed prior to 1 January 2010. The films can be submitted to youtube.com/yourfilmfestival.
