Scandinavian sales powerhouse TrustNordisk has been racking up sales for horror films “Carousel” and “Canceled,” Variety has found out exclusively.
Directed by Simon Sandquist, “Carousel” has been sold to Splendid Film (Germany), Selectavision (Spain) and Atnine Film (Korea), as well as Cine Video (Latin America) and Vertigo Media (Hungary).
Cine Video and Vertigo Media also picked up Oskar Mellander’s “Canceled.”
“I definitely see a continued demand for genre films in the market around the globe,” said TrustNordisk’s Nicolai Korsgaard, currently at Canadian genre fest Fantasia.
“Coming here has been great for us in terms of scouting new projects and I see some potential collaborations in the future. Lately, we have been increasing the number of horror films in our lineup.”
Both films are produced by the Scandinavian Content Group, also behind Johannes Persson’s “Feed.”

TrustNordisk has an excellent track record for producing excellent horror films and is next in production on Feed, directed by Johannes Persson.
The film is based on the true story of Sweden’s first woman to be killed for witchcraft.
In Feed, a horrifying murder quickly turns into a ghost myth online and becomes a popular tourist attraction.
“Influencers soon try to ride the wave of ‘ghost tourism’ to market various tourist destinations for clients. A young medical student joins her influencer boyfriend on one of his marketing jobs. The goal is to make potential tourists believe that an old witch, Märit, lives in the lake around a commercial camping site – but there’s soon reason to believe that Märit is more than just a made-up ghost story.”
Molly Nutley, Sofia Kappel, and Annica Liljeblad star.

Erik Poppe’s historical drama “The Emigrants” scored the top Andreas Award at the 50th Norwegian International Film Festival Haugesund. Produced by Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, it is distributed by Sf Studios. Poppe is also known for “Utøya: July 22” and “The King’s Choice.”
Based on Vilhelm Moberg’s series of novels about Swedes who decided to leave their country and search for a better future, it “tackles deep questions about cultural and religious identity,” argued the jurors.
“Even though the events in this story are long behind us, the film reminds us of our own present,” they added.
Interestingly enough, in 1971 Jan Troell also took on the story, ending up with four Academy Awards nominations – including one for Liv Ullmann.
“She was able to see our film and she is its biggest ambassador now. She just loves this take and noticed that it’s about the refugees today. It takes place 150 years ago,...

More than 300 industry delegates from top shingles including Warner Bros Discovery, Viaplay, Germany’s Constantin Film, The Match Factory and France’s TF1 Studio are expected on the shores of Haugesund, Norway, over Aug. 23-26, for Scandinavia’s major film showcase, New Nordic Films.
Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winner “Triangle of Sadness” will both open the film confab festivities and screen alongside 18 new Nordic finished films at the market. But for the avid buyers and programmers of Nordic content, the biggest draw will be the 18 works in progress – half of them looking for sales and distribution – and 23 pics in development available for co-production and financing.
“We’ve noticed a shift in recent years, with buyers and sellers favouring the Works in Progress and Nordic Coproduction Market over the market screenings. These seem to be more valuable for the industry,” said Gyda Velvin Myklebust, head of New Nordic Films.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Terror Films. This critic has worked on publicity, for this film, in the past. Directors/writers: Danny Draven, Paul Davis, Ómar Örn Hauksson, Dean Hewison, Joel Morgan, Johannes Persson, Nicholas Peterson, Erlingur Thoroddsen, Rasmus Wassberg, Sam Dickson, Richard Falkner, Paul Fischer, Jacey Heldrich, Barry Jay, Brian McAuley, David Steenhoek, Aidee Walker. Patient Seven is a horror anthology, from at fifteen writers and directors. Short films, from around the world, make up this recent outing. Comprised of seven short films and one wraparound, there is a little something here for every horror fan. This film fan enjoyed Ómar Örn Hauksson's take on 28 Days Later (2002), with "Undying Love." These two films are very comparable in costume and shooting style. As well, "The Body," which practically begins the anthology, is especially well written, by Paul Fischer and Paul Davis. The comedic twist is a welcomed surprise.
