Screen Media has nabbed all North American rights to “Naked Singularity,” a heist thriller with John Boyega and Olivia Cooke. The film marks the feature directing debut of Chase Palmer, best known for co-writing the screenplay for “It,” the 2017 horror blockbuster.
Bill Skarsgård, who played Pennywise in that film, co-stars in the movie along with Ed Skrein, Linda Lavin and Tim Blake Nelson.
Here’s the official logline: “‘Naked Singularity’ centers on Casi (John Boyega), a promising young NYC public defender whose idealism is beginning to crack under the daily injustices of the very justice system he’s trying to make right. Exclusive: The Max Winkler-directed drama Jungleland — which pairs Charlie Hunnam and Jack O’Connell in a drama about bare-knuckle boxing — is in the ring with Lionsgate on a deal for North American rights. Several distributors have been into this, but I’m told that Lionsgate is the frontrunner in talks to secure a movie that got strong reviews after it premiered at Toronto last fall.
Hunnam plays the manager and O’Connell plays his bare-knuckle boxer brother. They fall into heavy debt to a mobster and are given the chance to wipe the slate clean if they travel to San Francisco and compete in Jungleland — a bare knuckle boxing tournament. And, oh, yeah, they also have to drop off a teen girl at the doorstep of a feared mobster. Failing will mean death. Jessica Barden plays the teen and Jonathan Majors plays the mobster to whom they fall into debt.

Exclusive: When the Gabriela Cowperthwaite-directed drama The Friend premieres tonight in Toronto, the film’s tough subject matter – Dakota Johnson plays Nicole Teague, who at 34 was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer – was made more bearable by the presence of two classic Led Zeppelin songs. “Ramble On” and “Going to California” were cleared only days ago to be included in the drama, tunes that would have been impossible for The Friend‘s indie budget to bear were it not for the good graces of the band and in particular its legendary lead singer Robert Plant.
The Friend is an unusual and true love story which Brad Ingelsby scripted based on a 2015 Esquire article written by Nicole’s husband, Matthew Teague. It told the story of his wife’s brutal demise, and how her college friend Dane Faucheux made it somehow bearable when he insisted on leaving his job and girlfriend...
