Before Dorothy’s mother passed away, she had a favorite saying, as Aunt Em reminds her grieving niece in the opening scene of The Wiz: “The hard stuff is there to let you know just how good you got it.” And while that’s a curious mantra to undergird a production of a Broadway musical, there’s something to it in the latest revival.
The first musical by a Black composer to win Tony Awards for best musical and best score, this well-loved show turns 50 next year. If Schele Williams’s simplistic and sometimes bewildering staging doesn’t itself demonstrate how the show has held up across those decades, she wisely steers all attention toward the main event: the stunning vocal performances from her cast. And since the show’s underwhelming visuals feel like less of a distraction than an afterthought, it’s easy enough to put the “hard...

Daniel Craig prefers his hips shaken, not stirred.
Former James Bond star Craig plays “himself” in a new commercial for Belvedere Vodka, directed by Academy Award winner Taika Waititi. Craig shimmies, shakes, and shows off his killer dance moves, putting Hugh Grant’s iconic “Love Actually” dance sequence (almost) to shame.
Set at the Cheval Blanc Paris hotel, the ad begins in black and white before tracking Craig walking through the hotel lobby and slowly undressing down to a sleeveless muscle tee. Craig moves to Rita Ora and Giggs’ song, thrusting his hips at the hotel pool, in an elevator, and finally, in his own hotel room where he seamlessly pops the top off a Belvedere bottle.
Waititi, also starring as a caricature of himself, yells cut and tells Craig, “Let’s go again, just be yourself.”

The opening credits of Belvedere Vodka’s new campaign announce that Daniel Craig plays “himself” — and this is Craig like you’ve never seen him before.
After a very 007-opening that features a dapper Craig peering out from the iconic Pont Neuf bridge in Paris, Craig offers up a sly smirk before ducking into a waiting car while throngs of fans and photographers crowd the scene. Craig then slides out the other side of the car in an all-black ensemble as he struts down the street and into the lobby of the city’s Cheval Blanc Paris hotel.
Daniel Craig appears in a new global campaign for Belvedere shot by Juergen Teller.
Craig then busts a move through the lobby and onto the rooftop before eventually making his way into his room, where he reaches inside a Belvedere-stocked bar, all the while showing off his dancing skills.

Westbrook Media, the digital content division of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s multimedia outfit, has partnered with Logitech on a short film for Black History Month.
The project will chronicle choreographer JaQuel Knight – the man behind Beyonce’s "Single Ladies" dance and Shakira’s Super Bowl performance – in his bid to help young creatives copyright their work. Knight became the first choreographer to copyright his dances last year – a milestone in the age of TikTok, especially as many creators of colors have originated trends on the platform without being properly credited..
The film, funded by Logitech and co-produced by Westbrook and Knight’s J.K. Creatives, is currently in pre-production. It is part of an overarching partnership between Knight and Logitech – noted for its work with digital creators – called #Creators4BIPOC, which aims to address barriers faced by creators of color.

Never in my zillennial life did I think that I would create an account for TikTok, but once I did, I was hooked to it thanks to the talented Black creators on the app. One thing that I loved about Black TikTok was the dances made by talented creators like Keara Wilson, who choreographed a dance to Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage." Months later, the Nae Nae Twins came up with a perfectly synchronized dance to the "Savage" remix featuring Beyoncé, which encouraged thousands of people to join in on the fun.
As infectious as these dances are, TikTok has come under fire for algorithmically favoring white creators and content. Black culture and creativity is a significant contributor to TikTok's success in most niches, especially in the realm of choreography. Countless dances like the Smeeze, the Renegade, and more were created and popularized by Black people. Yet it's still a...

Black creators continue to be denied the credit they deserve. In the ongoing conversation about creativity and proper accreditation on social media, many TikTok creators are now engaged in a headline-making "dance strike," refusing to offer choreography to go along with Megan Thee Stallion's new single, "Thot Sh*t." Direct action of this kind was inevitable, and the platform-wide movement has fueled further discussions about the marginalizing effects of TikTok's "borrow culture" on Black creators.

The Coachella lineup is here!
The iconic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off 2018 by dropping this year's lineup on Twitter early Tuesday evening.
It was already well known that Beyonce would be a headliner. The 36-year-old singer was supposed to take the stage last year, but had to drop out due to her pregnancy and was replaced by Lady Gaga, but she'll be in formation this April, hitting the desert stage on Saturday.
The Weeknd will headline on Friday, and Eminem will close out the festival on Sunday. Fingers crossed this means we'll be seeing Queen Bey and Marshall Mathers perform their single, "Walk on Water," during one of their sets -- because we will not be seeing The Weeknd and Selena Gomez relive their last Coachella weekend.
This year's lineup has a solid mix of indie, alt-rock, R&B and rap performers, plus, as per usual, a few throwback acts. Sza, Kygo, [link...

When Beyonce goes for the gold, she really goes for it.
The Grammy winner took to Instagram on Tuesday to show off the sexy gold ensemble she wore to support Jay-Z at his performance at Brooklyn's Barclays Center last month.
Bey couldn't look more fierce in her head-to-toe gold ensemble, striking a pose for cameras backstage and showing off her thigh-high slit. The mother of three gets sassy in another pic, playfully biting the collar of her dress, but it's a black-and-white cuddly pic with Jay-Z that we can't stop staring at.
The couple lovingly gazes into each other's eyes in the second photo of Bey's slideshow, proving they couldn't be stronger after the rapper's recent infidelity confession.

Beyoncé is back on top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The Lemonade singer's "Perfect Duet" with Ed Sheeran hit No. 1, ending a surprising nine-year drought for Queen Bey that dates back to her last chart-topper, the iconic "Single Ladies."
Their collaboration is a retooled, harmonious rendition of "Perfect" off of Sheeran's ÷ (Divide) album, and marks a reunion for the two artists on the mic, after sharing the stage together in 2015 at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City, where they performed a duet version of Beyonce's own heartfelt jam, "Drunk in Love."
Recently, Et sat down with JaQuel Knight, Beyoncé's choreographer for the iconic "Single Ladies" video -- who is also helping prepare for her highly anticipated set at Coachella 2018 -- where he discussed the impact of working on that song so early in his career.

“Amazing, beyond, iconic, life.” Those are the four words Beyonce’s lead choreographer, JaQuel Knight, used to describe the music superstar’s upcoming Coachella performance.
The Grammy winner is set to headline the annual Indio, California music festival in 2018, her first major gig since giving birth to twins Rumi and Sir Carter in June. Beyonce was originally scheduled to perform at the 2017 festival, but postponed her appearance after announcing she was pregnant.
