I’m not going to kvetch about American Idol failing to reward one of its dozens of worthy grads with a Thursday-night performance slot — there are only six weeks left, after all! — and instead using it to promote the doing-just-fine-already former X Factor judge Demi Lovato.

I hate apologizing on behalf of American Idol. We should be enjoying this! This is our joy! My joy! My Seacrest-sponsored rapture. My karaoke vomitorium pandemonium extravaganza. But sigh. Every once in awhile Idol is a silly suckfest for losers, and tonight was one of those nights. Ten dudes entered, and I'm telling you that at least eight of them were lame enough to dismiss completely. Randy Jackson shrugs wildly and pouts, "What is going on here?!" Besides you and your patronizing chuckles, Randy, not much.
Before we begin, it's time to note that Nicki Minaj's "infuriated" reactions whenever Mariah Carey speaks are annoying. What is she reacting to? Anything? It makes me mad. And then, of course Mariah makes me mad with her simplistic, pandering critiques and nervous, non-committal energy. Ugh! Hop on your jetski and hit me with some of that "Honey" video swag, M.C.!

There's only one thing more unsettling than watching two out of eight competitors on last night's The Voice receive surprise eliminations at episode's end: watching Adam Levine mumble and stutter for approximately 30 hours before giving simple criticisms. Bad news, everyone: Adam is suddenly the worst! His nervous preambles are so damn time-consuming! Last week I realized that Christina Aguilera often shares valuable insight with the contestants (even if she can't remember their names, as was the case with the wrongfully dismissed Tony Vincent), and now I'm realizing a far scarier fact -- that Adam Levine is worried about not seeming nice. What could be a more disgusting fear? He should focus his phobia on Xtina's stagewear, which -- during her performance of "Stronger" on The Voice stage -- resembled Paula Abdul's freakish, bedazzled ensemble from her performance of "Vibeology" at the '91 Video Music Awards.

"American Idol" kicked off its Top 24 with the 12 men (plus a mystery extra guy!). It's really throwing us off having the Top 24 be in the big theater and not the tiny one with the Coca Cola dungeon up top.
We also miss seeing them walk awkwardly towards the camera with finger guns and winks and whatnot, though there was plenty of creepy weirdness as Ryan introduced them down the line. Please don't do that ever again, Heejun Han.
1. Reed Grimm, "Moves Like Jagger," Maroon 5
If you close your eyes, this is great. Not that Reed is hard on the eyes, because he's not. But his sound is nice, he actually sounds a lot like Levine, only jazzy. Just when we were thinking it was a tad boring, he takes to the drums and gets bolder, but the excitement mostly comes from the seizure-inducing lights. And after the drum solo,...

Last month, while interviewing executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for a story about possible changes to American Idol for its upcoming eleventh season, I proposed the idea that the show should introduce a list of 11 songs that would be banned from the live performance rounds on the grounds that they’ve been done to death in previous seasons. Lythgoe’s response caught me off guard: “Well, Mike, if you want to write down and send me 11 songs that you don’t want to hear again, I will put them through to the committee.”
Well, sir, you don’t have to ask me twice!

'American Idol': Scotty and Lauren duke it out in the Nokia, on the scene for the performance finale
In seasons past, the scene outside the Nokia Theater La Live in the hour leading up to the performance finale resembled a kind of carnival of Idols past — Hey, it’s Anoop! And… that one kooky girl from Hollywood week! No, the other one! — with a general feeling of excitement and occasion stirring among the crowd waiting to get into the theater. Perhaps I’m just projecting my own indifferent indifference about the season 10 finale here (I simply don’t care about the fact that I don’t care), but yesterday’s scene was far more subdued in comparison. Former American Idol contestant Paige Miles was forced to make a quick escape after a car she was driving caught on fire. The singer was heading home from a musical rehearsal in Florida on Tuesday when a blaze erupted while the SUV was still in motion. While Miles was able to exit the car without sustaining any serious injuries, she later admitted on her official Twitter page that the incident had provided her with quite a scare. She wrote: "Last night my car just caught fire with me in it! I just jumped out of a moving Envoy! (sic)" After posting pictures of the burned-out vehicle and asserting that the only physical damage she sustained was "[an] asthma attack and sky high blood pressure", Miles claimed that she believed the fire to have been triggered by an "electrical defect" in the vehicle. At Reality Rocks 2011, the "American Idol" panel touched on a lot of different topics; highlights can be found here. But we thought one subject that came up deserved to be singled out - the subject of blogs.
Moderator Shirley Halperin asked Season 9 contestants Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Michael Lynche, Tim Urban and Paige Miles if they read the blogs (which they are advised not to do) and how it affected them.
Tim Urban, who blogs were not particularly kind to during their season, says, "You realize that the blogs are there just to pick apart your performance. They're not there to say what you did well, they're just there to point out what you did bad."
We aren't sure we totally agree with that assessment. When we recap the show here at Zap2it, we try to mention the good and the bad. As far as Tim Urban goes, we did criticize him quite often,...

One of the first panels at Reality Rocks 2011 was a round-table discussion with "American Idol" Season 9 alumni Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Michael Lynche, Tim Urban and Paige Miles.
The group is very obviously close - they were laughing and joking with each other. The sense of camaraderie was palpable as they spoke about their experiences on the show.
Here are a few highlights:
Big Mike, on seeing the judges for the first time in auditions: "I remember thinking Simon was pretty. He was so pretty. They were like cartoon characters, they were all so pretty."
Didi, on keeping her inclusion in hte Top 24 a secret: "The only people that knew were my brother and my mom before the show aired. My dad didn't know, he can't keep a secret."
Katie, on how hard it is when the judges are contradictory: "Simon's like, 'You should be country,' and Kara's like,...

The American Idol season 10 train pulled into Nashville tonight, and found a dental assistant imitating a grating child’s toy fueled by dying batteries, a beauty pageant blinding two out of three judges with her glistening smile, and a 15-year-old girl attempting to show us why producer Nigel Lythgoe has been pimping her before she even got a second of airtime. "American Idol" is here and Zap2it has been taking a stroll down memory lane to re-evaluate the previous nine seasons.
We're breaking it down into four categories: Best Performance, Worst Performance, Most Underrated Idol and most Overrated Idol. At the end, we will decide how the season stacks up against the rest, rating it as great, good, or not-so-good.
We've looked back at Season 1 (yay Kelly!), Season 2 (aww, Clay and Ruben!), the black hole that was Season 3, one of our favorite Top 2 in Season 4, and Soul Patrol-ed Season 5. We took a look back at beatboxin' Season 6, the David vs. David finale of Season 7 and the game-changing season of Glambert.
Now let's look at Simon's last season.
Season 9 contestants in order of elimination:

Paige Miles
Didi Benami
Andrew Garcia
Katie Stevens
Tim Urban
Siobhan Magnus
Aaron Kelly
Michael Lynche

With news that producers on the British version of "X Factor" used Auto-Tune software to help sweeten the voices of a few contestants, I can't say I'm that surprised. Like "American Idol," Simon Cowell's "X Factor" aims to find the music industry's next big superstar. If the singers on "X Factor" and "Idol" are going to have to compete with contemporary pop acts — many of whom barely do an interview without a little audio sweetening in post-production — can you blame producers for a little tweaking here and there to polish their product?
In fact, I wonder if Cowell's old show might have gained a bit of shine from some tuning enhancements in the past. Here's my pick for five "American Idol" contestants who would have benefited from some minor pitch-correction.

The Top 10 finalists from the ninth season of "American Idol" were on the air with Larry King Friday, May 28. It was like some sort of game, as he started with winner Lee DeWyze, then kept adding Idols until the gang was all there.

Opinions have been largely negative surrounding the ninth season of Fox's hit singing competition show -- but is this really the worst season in "American Idol" history? We don't think so.
We think this is more a case of the collective "Idol" viewing audience having some short-term memory loss. Sure, in comparison to the David vs. David showdown of two years ago and the spectacle that was Adam Lambert coupled with whiskey-voiced Allison Iraheta and cutie-pie Kris Allen, Season 9 seemed a little boring.
But let's not forget the seasons prior to seven and eight. Do you even remember the black hole that was Season 3?
Season 9's Paige Miles is arguably the best 11th-place finisher ever, with the possible exception of Alexis Grace. Unfortunately for Paige, the week she was eliminated she was very obviously sick and had had no exposure prior to the Top 24, thus no fan base to get her through the rough patch.

To the delight of hair metal fans everywhere, this year’s American Idol final 12 reunited on stage last night alongside rock God, Alice Cooper.
Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus, Didi Benami, Paige Miles, Michael Lynche, Casey James, Tim Urban, Lee Dewyze, Lacey Brown, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly and Katie Stevens gave a fiery rendition of Cooper’s 1972 hit ‘School’s Out’, resplendent in St Trinian type school uniforms and accompanied by a heavily made up children’s choir.
The group and Alice were later joined on stage by Orianthi, who kept her costume in theme and wore a sparkly school dress.
We don’t know who lost more credibility last night. American Idol for allowing decent yet intrinsically uninteresting singer Lee DeWyze to win, or Alice Cooper, who used to be a rock God but these days is looking like a bit of a sell out more and more. Leave your comments below.

In my secret dreams (that are not so secret anymore), I’ve always wanted to audition for American Idol. Not because I’m a fantastic singer — my karaoke version of Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away” makes Paige Miles look like, well, Kelly Clarkson — but because I feel it’s something I should cross off my bucket list, especially since the show has dominated my pop culture existence for, oh, nine years.
Of course, I never had the guts to actually attend an audition, since I knew I would never get sent through to Hollywood. Knowing this, I once actually attempted...

Mama Sox was robbed last night – but even she had a feeling that her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze was going to walk away with the top prize this season on American Idol
I am beyond disappointed by the American Idol season finale May 26, if only for the reason that my girl Crystal Bowersox lost by a 2% margin. Two Percent. Highway robbery! That said, I suspected all along that Lee DeWyze might steal her glory and apparently, so did she.
“I knew Lee was going to win,” the 24-year-old Elliston, Ohio native confided post-show. She didn’t seem upset and explained that, throughout this whole experience, her attitude has always been laid-back and laissez-faire. Whatever will be, will be.
“I learned a lot about myself,” she continued. “I feel like I won because Lee won, and I respect him as an artist.”
Amazing attitude, don’t you think?...

Being that this is "American Idol," the results show — which could legitimately be only five minutes long — will run well over two hours. And being that this is Simon Cowell's final "Idol" episode ever, expect lots of celebrity cameos. (And when I say "celebrity," I mean Blake Lewis and Normund Gentle.)
Christina Aguilera and Enrique Iglesias are scheduled to perform (in honor of 1999, the year Simon first got his flat-top haircut), as well as our reigning Idol, Kris "Not Adam Lambert, The Straight One" Allen. There are plenty of rumored appearances, too, ranging from Janet Jackson to Hall and Oates. (Those greatest hits albums aren't going to sell themselves, now will they?)
But wait! There's more!
"Idol" finales bring back the entire Top 12 of the season, and often the singers get paired up with established acts, so congratulations random dude who hoped to see Paige Miles and Insane Clown Posse perform together.

Big Brother bosses are said to be planning a ‘non stop party theme’ for the final series of the show.
Revealing that new housemates will be greeted by multiple portraits of presenter Davina McCall, when they enter the house next month, a source told The Daily Star that the upcoming series will have a party mood, which will directly contrast with last year’s hell theme.
The source said:
“To celebrate the whole Big Brother history, bosses have decided to theme the last year on fun rather than hell.
“Producers want to concentrate on fun and games, rather than doom and gloom.
“And they decided the best way to do that was to give a nod to Davina by actually making her the interior.
“Davina is the essence of Big Brother, so producers will have a few Davina-esque surprises for the contestants.”

Crystal Bowersox and her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze are in the finale on American Idol — but why would these two pals have a beef?
You called it, America! You’ve long predicted a Crystal Bowersox/Lee DeWyze showdown in the season finale, and last night you were proved right when sexy Casey James got the boot. But why would these two BFFs — who seemed genuinely stoked that they’d be facing off against one another — ever dislike the other?
It all went down with the flip of a coin. Following the results show May 19, Lee, Crystal and Ryan pre-taped the coin toss which determines the order in which the Idols perform on the May 25 finale. Mama Sox won, and chose to go second…but not without worrying that her friend (who clearly wanted to go second himself) was going to be upset with her decision.
“Are you going to hate me?...

Outgoing American Idol contestant Michael Lynche has been talking about why he gave up his future in football and got back into singing and making music.
Michael was voted off the show last night, after giving a disappointing rendition of Michael Jackson’s ‘I Will Be There.’ But before auditioning for the show, he was a football player at Gibbs High School and the University of Central Florida. He played two seasons at University of Central Florida and later dropped out in 2003 to take care of his ailing mother. His mother died the following year of pancreatic cancer.
Speaking to reporters during a post elimination interview Lynche talked about discovering music again, saying:
My mom had failing health for a long time. She was diagnosed with cancer and my heart really was missing home and missing my mom and being with her. Then my mom ended up passing away and...

We were sure that it would be Casey James but five weeks after the show’s judges first saved him from elimination, smooth singing Michael Lynche was voted off last night’s American Idol show.
Michael failed to wow the judges with his gospel version of Michael Jackson’s ‘I Will Be There’ on Tuesday night’s show. Kara DioGuardi thought that something was missing from the rendition and said:
I want goosebumps again. I didn’t feel that from you and I know you have more. You played it safe. What you did tonight, you could do in your sleep.
The panel were much more impressed by his and Casey Jame’s duet on ‘Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman,’ but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save the new dad from the chop.
On hearing of his fate Big Mike said:

Taking to the stage in second place on last night’s American Idol, Michael Lynche revealed that he would be singing Michael Jackson’s I Will Be There. Mike admitted that he feels pressured to get into the top three and said that he feels the weight of the night in trying to do it for his hometown.
Celebrity mentor Jamie Foxx got Mike to dance and encouraged him to loosen up, but then refused to give him an artist t shirt, because he hadn’t learned his lyrics yet…..sucked to Michael that day!
Back to his performance…..Big Mike walked down those stairs, and there was the anticipation of that gospel choir standing above him. He blasted out an amazing soul/gospel version that was phrased quite a bit differently to the original. I thought it was an impressive version of the song – great vocals by Mike, and...

The May 11 episode of "Glee" was called "Laryngitis." Of course, the afflicted New Directions singer was none other than Miss Front-and-Center, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele).
Even with one member taking a vow of silence (as much silence as Rachel is capable of, anyway) the Glee clubbers still made all their usual pop-culture quips. Can you keep up? If not, Zap2it has you covered. Check your "Glee" references here and never miss a laugh!
Laryngitis is a singer's worst nightmare. Recently, "American Idol" hopeful Paige Miles was afflicted -- she blames the inflammation for getting voted off before making it to the summer tour-bound Top 10.
Rachel doesn't feel like herself without her voice -- just as Puck doesn't feel like himself without his signature Mohawk. "I feel like that guy who lost all his hair then lost all his strength," he says after his mom makes him shave the stripe off his head.

"American Idol" announced during the Top 5 results show that the next theme would be Songs of the Cinema and the mentor would be one Jamie Foxx of "Ray" fame. He was also last year's Rat Pack theme mentor.
We were initially trepidatious about this theme because in the past it has yielded many bad performances of "Against All Odds," but then we remembered Paige Miles' debacle and felt relieved that we wouldn't have to sit through that song again. The worry came back, however, when we saw this week's list of song choices.
"Idol" might as well have called this Cheesy '80s Songs week or Kenny Loggins Songs week. The list is like six songs long and most of them are completely unusable by the Idols for various reasons -- there's nothing to be done but karaoke (most of the list), other Idols have killed them ("Over the Rainbow,...

Michael Lynche was looking very dapper on last night’s American Idol in his hat and suit. The dad of one sang ‘The Way You Look Tonight,’ a classic, well-established Frank Sinatra song. During his mentoring session, Harry Connick delivered some straight advice about interpretation, putting himself alongside Adam Lambert as one of the most useful mentors of the series.
Mike cut an imposing figure on stage as he launches into the song and if there was one man made to sing Sinatra songs, it’s Big Mike. He delivered a brilliant vocal, warm and jazzy and the arrangement was probably one of the best of the night. Seriously, this song could have been made for Big Mike, it was an awesome rendition that impressed us and the judges!
Judges Comments:
Randy Jackson: Harry – unbelievable arrangement, unbelievable vocal. Mike is in it to win it. This is what I’m saying.

Now that Siobhan Magnus has left American Idol, Vote For The Worst have thrown their weight behind 26 year old Florida man, Michael Lynche.
The site encourages people to vote for the worst singer left on the show, but Michael shouldn’t think that their backing will definitely lead to a second save – Vftw campaigned for Siobhan last week and she still left on last night’s results show.

Most people would’ve loved to have seen home go home in 9th place like he was supposed to, so if he even lasts one more week, fans won’t be too happy. Outgoing American Idol contestant Tim Urban has admitted that he knew he would polarize people during his time on the show.
Tim was originally left out of the Idol lineup and only made it back into the final 24 after Chris Golightly was dropped due to contractual difficulties.
During his time on the show, the Jonas Brothers lookalike built up an enthusiastic army of fans but also some very vocal haters who took to internet forums and boards to criticise his every performance. On the huge reaction he received on Idol, Tim told USA Today:
It got really ugly. I tried to avoid that. I had some of my relatives, my cousins, out there defending me, so that was kind of funny. I realized that people were going to talk.
I also found out really early in the show that I was going to be this polarizing contestant on the show.

American Idol contestant Michael Lynche has admitted that he plans to dedicate his performance on tonight’s show to a friends child who is suffering from cancer.
This week’s theme is ‘Inspirational Songs’ and what better inspiration than a courageous child who battles cancer and chemotherapy, yet still manages to smile.
Michael wrote on the official Idol facebook page:
Tonight I’m dedicating my song to a buddy of mines daughter. She’s been going through chemo the last 2 years but finished in February. She has obviously shown tremendous strength and fight along with the whole family. This particularly hits close to home as she was diagnosed at the early age of 7 and makes me yearn to hold my little bubby bear as I write this. Tonight she is my inspiration. Love you guys!

Normal 0 American Idol, it took nine seasons but the Simon fed snake is finally eating its own tail.
It started early on in Hollywood week with contestants like Paige Miles and Katie Stevens performing songs from past contestant's solo albums. Next, we had the Top 9 talking about each other in place of a mentor during Lennon/McCartney night. Finally, we have a former Idol mentoring current Idols on how to be an Idol.
By next season we are going to have an Idol hosting the show, judged by three former Idols, while singing Idol records. The horror!
On a positive note, Adam Lambert is probably the most talented and interesting contestant the show has ever yielded so having him whip these wannabes into shape is definitely not a bad thing.
Here is the wisdom he could pass to each contestant:
Aaron Kelly
Make him cool, ala Rizzo with Sandy in Grease.

The American Idol judges decision to save Michael Lynche on Wednesday night’s results show has shocked many fans of the show, with some suggesting that he didn’t deserve the privilege.
However, judge Randy Jackson has insisted that America got ‘confused’ with their voting this week and is adamant that Big Mike deserved another chance.
He told Us magazine:
