Making its Netflix debut this Friday, Designated Survivor opened Season 3 with President Kirkman navigating a disastrous State of the Union with the help of a slightly revamped staff. Does the re-re-re-re-rejiggered political drama get your vote?
One month after announcing that he would be seeking a second term — as an Independent — Kirkman found himself dealing with the fallout of a Sotu in which he got a bit hot, after someone in the crowd crowed that he was “illegitimate.” Kirkman’s sharply voiced message was simply one about draining the swamp, but opponent Moss and the media turned it into a question of his composure.

When Dr. Neal Baer signed on as showrunner for Designated Survivor Season 3, there was an “executive order” of sorts from series star Kiefer Sutherland.
“Kiefer said, ‘Neal, just one thing: I do not want this to be any more like 24, where Kirkman, you know, saves the world from a tsunami,'” Baer shared during a visit to TVLine’s New York office. (For the uninitiated, that tsunami thing actually happened, in Season 2.)
Baer of course has estimable TV credits behind him, including ER (where during its heyday he served as an executive producer and writer) and Law & Order: Svu. So upon hearing Sutherland’s wish,...

President Kirkman “really screwed” up his State of the Union address to the nation — but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to throw in the towel on his first presidential campaign. Just yet, anyway.
In the 2-minute trailer for Season 3 of Netflix’s “Designated Survivor,” Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) has to face a political reality he’s never come across before: campaigning.
Per the streaming service: “What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”
The high-stakes political thriller, which was picked up by Netflix last fall after being canceled at ABC, stars Sutherland as a low-level cabinet member who is suddenly catapulted to the position of President of the United States after a devastating terrorist...

Kiefer Sutherland stars in the hugely entertaining thriller Designated Survivor. Here's a spoiler-free look at why you should give it a try.
Heard of the show Designated Survivor? It might just quench your thirst (whether you knew you had it or not) for a new thriller to follow.
The basics are this. Straight-talking, politically unambitious, and honest, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkland (played by Kiefer Sutherland), finds himself on the brink of being fired. As such, he is appointed the 'Designated Survivor' for the State of the Union Address. This basically involves being locked in a safe-room far away, whilst the rest of the government convenes on Capitol Hill.
Fortunately for him, this is the best-timed firing in history, and as a result of an attack, he is the only member of the government to survive. Therefore, being next in the line of succession he becomes,...

Designated Survivor will continue to depict how difficult it is to maintain a sense of diplomacy when it seems that bloodshed is the only goal of those surrounding the president during episode 5 of the hit ABC series.
As President Tom Kirkman, Keifer Sutherland will push the hot-button topic of the United States' continuing war against terrorism in "The Mission." Alongside his Chief of Staff Aaron Shore (Adan Canto), he is attempting to make sense of the perilous situation while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy within the White House.

If you're not excited yet about ABC's new political thriller, Designated Survivor, you will be after watching this new featurette.
Designated Survivor tells the story of Tom Kirkman, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who is the appointed "designated survivor" during the State of the Union address.
When a terrorist attack destroys the Capitol and kills everyone inside, Kirkman immediately becomes the President of the United States.
It's not a job for which he is prepared.
And, he may not be getting a lot of support from the people around him (other than his family.)
At least not yet.
It would be crazy if one second you were a somewhat-average Joe and then in the next the President of the United States. The guy was just eating popcorn for crying outloud!
There has to be a little bit of acclimation time. Not much, though, because this was a terrorist attack,...
