After The CW renewed Walker for a shortened fourth season, it was inevitable the news would not be good for the prequel series Walker: Independence.
The network officially canceled Walker: Independence Tuesday night, months after the freshman season was capped at 13 episodes.
Admittedly, interest in Walker: Independence paled compared to the original series, but the numbers were still substantial -- by CW standards.
With a week of DVR viewing factored in, Walker: Independence Season 1 averaged just under one million viewers and a 0.1 rating in the demo.
It ranked as the network's #4 most-watched series among total viewers, which was a decent metric.
Set in the late 1800s, the series followed Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband was murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West.

Crime shows can take on many forms. There are procedurals, shows like "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "Law and Order" (and its endless spin-offs), and then, there are the gritty masterclass dramas, shows like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos." Some favor the process, some the outcome, though all abound with the kind of detached criminal activity audiences fervently eat up. Just look at "Breaking Bad's" 16 Emmy wins.

Katherine McNamara is no stranger to worlds far removed from our reality, having starred in sci-fi fantasy series “Arrow” from The CW and Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.” Her role in “Walker: Independence,” the 1870s-set prequel series to The CW’s “Walker” starring Jared Padalecki, is akin to her previous portrayals — in heart and strength — even if she’s trading leather jackets for corset dresses.
“Abby is very much a woman who has agency in a time when a lot of women didn’t,” McNamara told TheWrap in an interview, “and a woman who’s thrust into a situation she wasn’t prepared for and into a world that she knows nothing about and has to find her way and make a family and build something out of a tragedy.”

The series premiere of the Walker Western prequel debuted Thursday, October 6 on The CW, starring Katherine McNamara (Arrow), Matt Barr, Justin Johnson Cortez, Katie Findlay, Lawrence Kao, Philemon Chambers, and more. The cast had previously told TV Insider that their show was “not your mama’s Western,” and the pilot certainly proved as much. While retaining the aesthetic of a classic Western, The CW’s newest drama features a diverse cast tasked with telling the stories of the diverse people of the American West in the late 1800s. McNamara tells TV Insider that everyone Abby meets in this fledgling town has something they’re running from. And with new details about the murder of her husband unearthed in the series premiere, it seems Abby does too. Here, McNamara ...

Abigail Walker (Katherine McNamara) is a woman on a mission to seek vengeance against the man who murdered her husband in the new teaser for The CW’s “Walker: Independence,” which you can view above in a clip shared exclusively with TheWrap.
The prequel to “Walker” takes viewers back some hundred years to the late 19th century, on the frontiers of the Wild West in the eponymous Texas town. Following the brutal killing of her husband, the would-be sheriff of Independence, the determined Abigail must band together with an eclectic group of residents — like the charming criminal Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr) and trusted Apache adviser Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez) — and figure out who she can trust in exacting justice against Sheriff Tom Davidson (Greg Hovanessian), a hypocritical lawman with shady business dealings.

The CW’s Walker prequel, Walker Independence, is set to premiere on October 6, 2022 at 9pm Et/Pt. The new series takes place in the 1800s but shares a character – and actor – with the original show. Matt Barr stars in Walker Independence as Hoyt Rawlins, an ancestor of the Hoyt Rawlins he plays in Walker.
Speaking to TVLine, Barr described his Walker Independence character as made of the same DNA and heart as Walker‘s Hoyt. “But [Walker‘s] Hoyt was more of a talker, and this guy is a man of action. He’s a little more dangerous,” said Barr.
Katherine McNamara stars as Abby Walker, Justin Johnson Cortez plays Calian, and Katie Findlay is Kate Carver. Lawrence Kao is Kai, Philemon Chambers stars as Augustus, and Greg Hovanessian is Sheriff Tom Davidson.
Season one episode one was written by Seamus Kevin Fahey and directed by Larry Teng.

When one thinks of a CW series, bulky, constructed frontier dresses and dingy, scratchy-looking shirts don’t ever come to mind. The upcoming Walker prequel, though, will aim to make 1800s fashion as fetch as it can.
Set in the late 1800s and filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Walker Independence follows Abby Walker (played by Arrow‘s Katherine McNamara), an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. After crossing paths with Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez), a curious Apache tracker, Abby arrives in the town of Independence, Texas, where she...

When Katie Findlay entered the entertainment industry a little more than 10 years ago, it didn’t take long for her career to start gaining traction. She got her first big break in 2011 when she was cast in the TV series The Killing. Even in her early roles, it was clear that Katie had the potential to become a star. In recent years, she has definitely lived up to that potential and her resume grows a little more each year. Most people will know her best from being in shows like The Carrie Diaries, Man Seeking Woman, and Nancy Drew.

Music supervisor Jen Ross has worked on a number of music-themed series in her career, including “Smash,” “Empire” and “Soundtrack,” but few compare to the amount of work necessary for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.” The show is driven by Zoey’s ability to hear people’s “heart songs,” of which we hear at least four and as many as nine in a given episode. Ross is tasked with securing music rights to all of them under a tight network TV schedule, and it’s far from easy. “‘Zoey’s’ is a very specific beast unto itself,” says Ross in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “It’s really a constant interesting game of how do you get everything done in the time and not compromise any of the creative storyline and any of the narrative.” Watch the full webchat above.

To base a film on making philosophical ideas is a tricky thing. First it has to be aimed at a big enough audience who may not understand the concept, but then it could alienate the ones who truly understand it. The Philosophers is a movie that raises a few interesting questions, but proves in the end where true flaws are found.
When a philosophy teacher challenges his class of graduating seniors with choosing ten people who would survive in an underground shelter to repopulate the earth once an apocalypse hit it raises many questions. One of the most important one being just what influence the teacher himself is having.

Uh, what? Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist ended season two with a real bang that we, somehow, did not see coming, even as most of the season was spent setting it up perfectly. Max (Skylar Astin) now has the heart song powers! What?! Zoey (Jane Levy) and Simon (John Clarence Stewart) had broken things off, and her grand romantic gesture of chasing Max to the airport fizzled out when she saw what she thought was him singing a heart song to Rose (Katie Findlay). But then, when everyone but Zoey appeared to be happily moving on with their lives and Zoey was contemplating her future on a park bench, Max showed up. Turns out he was still always thinking about Zoey, and Rose could tell he...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the season two finale of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Goodbye.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Zoey’s Extraordinary Goodbye,” the second season finale of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.”
The events of the first season finale of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” — specifically that the titular Zoey (Jane Levy) lost her father Mitch (Peter Gallagher) to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) — resulted in her temporarily losing her superpower of hearing people’s innermost feelings sung to her through pop tunes. But the second season finale resulted in an even more life-changing, and seemingly permanent, power development when Max (Skylar Astin) developed the ability to hear Zoey’s heart song.
“At some point in a superhero story you always find someone else who has a power and it eventually becomes a super team. I don’t want to go quite that far but we always liked the idea of giving somebody else the power at some point,” creator and showrunner Austin Winsberg tells Variety.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist just keeps finding new ways to reinvent itself. As the NBC musical dramedy heads towards the end of season two this week, Zoey (Jane Levy) has made some major revelations about her own feelings. She realized that while she and current boyfriend Simon (John Clarence Stewart) don't really work, she actually still loves her best friend Max (Skylar Astin), who's about to be on his way to New York with his girlfriend Rose (Katie Findlay) for an extended stay. The good-ish news is that it looks like Max might have similar feelings about Zoey. He's still fondly holding on to the prototype of the project that got him and Zoey their jobs at Sprqpoint, and not willing to tell...

Does Team Max still have a chance?
With just one episode left in season two of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” it appears Max is in more than just a New York state of mind — he’s booking plane tickets. That said, he hasn’t gone just yet. Could there still be hope?
This week’s episode, titled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Session,” not only saw Max (Skylar Astin) make a final decision on leaving, but also took us back to Zoey (Jane Levy) and Max’s first meeting. And, as it turns out, the latest head-butting between the pair isn’t necessarily new. The two made less-than stellar first impressions on each other. But for Astin, that was a dynamic that was real fun to play with.
“I loved it. I mean, you’ve heard of a meet cute — this was a meet bad, and I really like that that’s the direction they took,...

“The Killing” may have been ahead of its time.

The road to “How to Get Away with Murder” is lined with dead bodies. Twenty-eight to be exact. Over the years, the series showed that there’s no shortage of ways to die. Suicide, poison, overdose, suffocation — you name it.
The most shocking deaths, of course, are the “anchors”: In the season’s first half, each episode reveals a new detail about the murder while the second half reveals how they covered it up. But there are a few others that stand out, as well.
In the first season, for example, Lila Stangard (Megan West) was done in by Frank (Charlie Weber), a proxy of Sam (Tom Verica) in a way that actually made the “cheating husband kills his pregnant girlfriend” schtick interesting. In the second season, Rebecca Sutter (Katie Findlay) was also killed, delighting audiences due to seeing a calm, murderous side to Bonnie (Liza Weil). And then,...
