While Best Coast dealt in chilled out indie pop, Bethany Cosentino goes full country ballad on “Easy,” the second look at her upcoming debut solo album Natural Disaster. Check out the artist’s new sound below.
Who knew relationships weren’t supposed to completely drain you of energy and self-worth? That’s what Cosentino realizes in “Easy,” a love song where the singer croons alone at a piano before other twangy instrumentals come into the mix. She explained the origins of the single in a statement.

Best Coast are going on an indefinite hiatus, and principal songwriter Bethany Cosentino is going solo. Today, Cosentino has announced that she’ll be releasing her debut album, Natural Disaster, on July 28th via Concord Records, and has also unveiled the album’s first single, “It’s Fine.”
Since hitting the scene 13 years ago with their seminal debut, Crazy for You, Best Coast have been a mainstay of the reverb-washed, lo-fi-inspired, indie generation. In a statement, Cosentino explained that the time had come for the duo — her and Bobb Bruno — to move onto the next stage of their artistic lives.
“My identity as a human being, and as an artist, has been so wrapped up in Best Coast for over a decade,” she wrote. “The decision to pause the project indefinitely, and explore a new side of myself, was a very difficult one to make — but it felt necessary for me.

Bethany Cosentino is leaving Best Coast behind to explore new territory as a solo artist. Her first single, “It’s Fine,” finds her singing, “It’s fine ’til it’s not fine,” in an upbeat, somewhat hopeful manner similar to what she was doing with Best Coast, though a little poppier. The track will appear on Natural Disaster, out July 28.

There are tons of great indie covers of classic rock songs. Today’s indie bands have many great classic rock bands to inspire them. Here is a list of the 10 best instances.
Best Coast | Clasos/Getty Images 10. ‘Rhiannon’ – Best Coast
Indie band Best Coast’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” is interesting. It appeared on the various artists’ album, A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. They definitely made it their own. The piano as the backbeat isn’t the best, but guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino’s singing is excellent on the classic rock tune.
9. ‘Gold Only Knows’ – Jr Jr
Jr Jr’s cover of The Beach Boys’ classic “Gold Only Knows” is a perfect example of an indie cover of a classic rock song. It blends the two genres, which are separated by multiple decades. The lyrics are classic rock, but the vibe, mood, and sound are all indie rock.

On the heels of celebrating 10 years of their debut Crazy for You, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino hit The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Thursday to perform “Rollercoaster,” off of the band’s new album Always Tomorrow.
Due to the pandemic, Cosentino performed the track at home, accompanied only by her electric guitar. The image harks back to how the band got its start, writing and recording songs in bandmate Bobb Bruno’s bedroom. “Our reference was doing stuff in my bedroom,” Bruno told Rolling Stone about recording their debut 10 years back.

Best Coast acknowledge that they became popular almost by accident. “We really had no aspirations at all,” multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno tells Rolling Stone. “We’ve always said: ‘A band could not have tried less to actively become a successful band than us.'”

A decade after Best Coast released their indie-pop breakthrough “Sun Was High (and So Was I),” the band has cleaned up its act. Four years have passed since its last LP, California Nights, and frontwoman Bethany Cosentino has sobered up and turned her life around. It’s a commendable feat, but since she is the type of songwriter who sticks to what she knows, her struggles to maintain her new drug-and-alcohol-free mindset also preoccupy almost all of the songs on Always Tomorrow. It quickly becomes a same-y blur, especially when...

Bethany Cosentino is a rock musician, but did you know she's also a woman? It's true! In an essay for Lenny Letter, the Best Coast singer takes aim at the wide variety of sexism she faces in the music industry, starting with the niggling annoyance of the undying women-in-rock question, and ending with full-blown sexual harassment. "I just want to be able to exist and make music without people asking me the question, 'So what is it like to be a girl in a band?'" she writes, adding that she once walked out of an Q&A session after her male interviewer told her, "You really don’t see many female rock stars with guitars." One male concert reviewer spent his column inches wondering why she wasn't smiling more. "Though a sexist review is certainly not the same as getting sexually harassed or assaulted over the course of a decade,...

Weezer take one giant leap for mankind in the new music video for their single "Back to the Shack." In a Warren Fu-directed clip that would spin Neil deGrasse Tyson into an utter conniption, the rock quartet heads to the moon, because why the heck not. The band has also started streaming their new album, "Everything Will Be Alright In The End," in full, for anybody who wants to test the wares before its Oct. 7 release next week. Check it out via iTunes Radio. The 11-song album includes a guest appearance from Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino, and is the band's ninth studio set and their first since 2010's "Hurley."...
