The last eight months have been full of “first since” moments for the Backstreet Boys: “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” became their first Grammy-nominated song since 2002, their first single to crack pop radio’s Top 20 since 2005 and their first Hot 100 entry since 2007. On Sunday, the group’s new album, DNA, debuted at Number One, making it the ensemble’s first chart-topper since 2000.
Two factors helped boost the Backstreet Boys’ numbers. First, a bundle deal — which lumped copies of DNA in with tickets to the group’s summer tour — shrewdly capitalized on Nineties nostalgia.

Genre divisions may never be the same. Camila Cabello and Kane Brown are both at the top of their games, in pop and country, respectively — and they’ve joined forces for a duet of her hit “Never Be the Same” that’s making the lines between formats and audiences even blurrier.
It’s part of a wave, as any recent chart watcher knows. “I was looking at iTunes a few days ago,” points out Sony Nashville chairman/CEO Randy Goodman, “and the top three songs were ‘The Middle’ by Zedd with Maren [Morris] singing, Florida Georgia Line with Bebe [Rexha, collaborating on ‘Meant to Be’], and Camila with Kane. I don’t know if that’s ever happened before, where the top three pop songs have country features on them.”

Not long after Tidal's earlier Anti-release mishap, Jay Z's music service re-released Rihanna's eighth studio effort Wednesday night. The 13-song track list you might have seen earlier was legit; Anti indeed has that Sza feature, as well as the newly minted Drake single, "Work." (No "Bbhmm," "FourFiveSeconds," or "American Oxygen," though.) Aside from Drake and Sza, Kuk Harrell, Bibi Bourelly, Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, the Weeknd, Travi$ Scott, DJ Mustard, and Timbaland, among many others, also had hands in the creative process. The full album — also including the likes of the artist's 4/20 gift "James Joint," "Kiss It Better," and "Higher" — is available via Tidal for purchase here, or streaming here. You can also listen to "Work" below: Rih's latest will stream exclusively on Tidal for its first week, according to the service; it was originally planned as a Thursday surprise (at 12:01 a.m.), but because of the leak, it...

Britney Spears could have had “Umbrella,” Rihanna can cut a hit in two takes and sometimes a background singer is just what a song needs. Those are just a few of the lessons espoused by master vocal producer Kuk Harrell -- the only person allowed to stitch together RiRi’s words. The former jingle writer (and cousin of Epic Records head of A&R Tricky Stewart), who's currently working on a video series that will "take people through my process from top to bottom," recently revealed his pop star checklist to The Hollywood Reporter. 1. Justin Bieber finally allows Selena to go where she's never been allowed before! Read on to find out where. Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship is heating up to a new level -- she's hanging out with him in the studio. The 19-year-old spent her Thursday night, April 5, hanging with Justin's friend, Alfredo Flores, in the studio while Justin worked on his new album. "Studio fun time with @alfredoflores," Selena posted on Instagram with a photo of the two. And then a few minutes later Alfredo posted a picture of him and Justin, saying "#believe." This is really interesting since Justin's vocal producer, Kuk Harrell, told us exclusively that Justin never has Selena in the studio because he needs to stay focused. “Selena does not hang out at the studio,” Kuk told us. “When Justin is in the studio, he’s all about business.” Hmm! Well they must have...

It looks like "The X Factor" winner Melanie Amaro might soon have some familiar company at Epic Records. It appears that her former competitor Marcus Canty is close to signing a deal with the label, this according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Canty, who came in fourth place in the singing competition, recently returned to Los Angeles from his home in Bowie, MD. Since then he's been working in the recording studio with producer Kuk Harrell. Harrell is a multi-Grammy winner who has worked with A-level talent including Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna and Katy Perry.
Of his studio work, Canty writes on Twitter, "Yea now the work begins! I got something real nice for y'all coming soon trust me it's gonna be nuts! I'm excited!"
Canty routinely defied the odds on "The X Factor" by beating out LeRoy Bell, Drew Ryniewicz and Rachel Crow while in the bottom two.

The superstar isn't ready to compete with the Justin Timberlakes of the world, but he's definitely more mature than his 'Baby' days! Everyone is So excited for Believe, Justin Bieber's upcoming album. Although we'll have to wait until summer to hear it, we now have a good idea of how it will show his growth as an artist! Justin, 17, will be shifting his persona on the new disc, producer Kuk Harrell tells Billboard.com. "The only conversation we've had about Justin's album that we're about to do is it's really important that it's the proper transition because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," he said. "There's a record in between." Kuk also said that Under The Mistletoe is a great example of the more mature sound. "It gave everybody the opportunity to hear him, see him and get used to his voice changing," he said.

Talk That Talk track is 'Rihanna all day,' Bangladesh tells MTV News.

Many of the tracks on Rihanna's Talk That Talk certainly touch on some very sexy subjects, using some very saucy language. But none are quite as blush-inducing as "Cockiness (Love It)," a sexed-up, genre-busting anthem on which Rihanna's not shy about liking the way her man loves her.
The Bangladesh-produced song is raunchy and over-the-top, and, according to the man himself, was already cooking up long before Rihanna came calling. " 'Cockiness,' it's layers of things I had sampled for a long time, never really messed with it too much," he told MTV News. "I was in L.A., and I had just pulled it out, chopped it up, made it a beat. My artist Candice Pillay, my other writers, Dem Jointz, they wrote the song.

23-year-old Rihanna released her sixth studio album, "Talk That Talk," on Tuesday to mixed reviews -- but regardless of critical dissent, fans quickly sent the album to the top of the iTunes charts.
The 11-song album includes uptempo, reggae-infused tracks like "Where Have You Been," "Birthday Cake" and "You Da One," and slower love songs "We All Want Love" and "Farewell."
Producer Kuk Harrell, who worked with Rihanna on the album during her "Loud" tour, tells MTV the album is similar to "Loud."
"At points, it's a combination of edgy and passionate at the same time, and when you listen to the album, it's just like 'Loud,'" he explained. "She's at a place right now where her voice just sounds incredible, and she's such a great presence."
Kuk says he wasn't afraid of pushing her harder. "When she sings a line, if I don't think it matches the intensity of the lyric,...

Could the world have handled a Justin Bieber track called "Sexy Together?" We're going to say definitely not.
Bieber's track "Never Say Never," recorded with Jaden Smith for "The Karate Kid" soundtrack, wasn't always an inspirational song about believing in yourself and hanging out with Jackie Chan and stuff.
A demo of the song when it was called "Sexy Together" and recorded by Travis Garland has hit the web. No wonder Bieb skipped this version -- it's a total snoozer. You'd think that a song about sex would be more interesting than a song about little kids doing karate... but no.
The song was produced by The Messengers, and Bieber and Smith had a hand in rewriting the lyrics, along with Kuk Harrell and Omarr Rambert.
Check out the two versions of the track below. Which do you prefer?
