Queen bassist John Deacon will reportedly not be involved in the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic.
The musician - who last appeared with the band in 1997 - is said to have approved the screenplay of the film but "doesn't want to" participate in the project, or a possible new Queen studio album.
"We kinda mourn for John as well as Freddie in a sense," Brian May told Rolling Stone. "I do know John's read the script and he's in approval. [But] he just doesn't want to be walking those roads.
"He's in his own space and we respect that. It's a shame, because we would love to have him around but he doesn't want to be in that arena anymore."
Deacon performed on all 15 Queen albums, but did not attend their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2001 or play in their tours with Paul Rodgers, and missed a performance at the London Olympics Closing Ceremony.

Queen's John Deacon will not be involved in an upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic. Although the group's bassist has apparently okayed the movie's screenplay, he "doesn't want to" participate in the project, or even a possible new Queen album.

This town has a doctor, and his name is Rendell. Stay away from his house cause he's the doctor from Hell. He killed all his patients, every last one, and cut out their hearts... purely for fun. So if you're from Moorehigh and you get sick, fall on your knees and pray you die quick.
No, those aren’t the lyrics to this week’s featured B-Sides. Those are the verses to the nursery rhyme the writers of the slasher comedy Dr. Giggles came up with for kids in the movie to recite because, I guess, if Freddy Krueger can have a nursery rhyme about his evil deeds, then why not a psychopathic doctor with a nervous tick laugh who makes more bad doctor jokes in the course of 90 minutes than a Borscht Belt comic doing a stand-up routine in the Poconos?
Dr. Giggles is certainly an oddity in the world of horror cinema,...

Looking to beat the midweek slump, Adam Lambert celebrated humpday at Hooray Henry’s last night (October 16).
The “For Your Entertainment” stud donned a black shirt, distressed jeans, and a big smile as he exited the West Hollywood hot spot and headed home.
Meanwhile, Adam has made quite an impression on Queen band member Roger Taylor, who told press that Lambert is a closer fit for Freddie Mercury than Paul Rodgers ever was.
“Paul has a perfect blues and soul voice, but our songs are big — and dare I say it, theatrical — and Adam fits that more easily. … Adam is closer to Freddie. Paul was macho, but Adam is a diva. His range is staggering.”...

With Sacha Baron Cohen having dropped out of his long-standing attachment to the Freddie Mercury biopic, reportedly over creative differences with Mercury's Queen bandmates, the search is on for a replacement.
Johnny Depp has been named as the frontrunner by bookies, but he's just one of several names that are now in the mix, so we've narrowed down our top six choices for the role of Mercury.
Johnny Depp
Despite looking nothing like the Queen frontman, Depp is a hot tip for the role on star power alone. He's got singing experience from Sweeney Todd. He's shared a screen with Keith Richards, so acting alongside someone pretending to be Brian May will be a doddle. He's also got bona fide rock cred having recorded with Oasis, Shane MacGowan and Marilyn Manson.
