Brian Tee is stepping into a new role. On March 29, the actor will make his directorial debut on NBC’s “Chicago Med,” the medical drama that he starred on for eight seasons as Dr. Ethan Choi. He made his final appearance on the ninth episode of Season 8, which aired December 7.
Although this is his first time directing, he’s been interested for years. When he landed the show in 2015, a friend gave him a piece of advice he carries with him: “It’s gonna be an amazing experience and a wonderful ride.”
“I took that to heart. In Season 2, I started shadowing directors,” Tee tells Variety. So, when he chose to walk away from the show in 2022, he made a request to direct. “It was not necessarily an easy yes. I’m sure there’s a bit of a hesitation. But I think everyone has known that I’ve been wanting to do this.

One happy ending, coming right up! After learning Brian Tee was leaving Chicago Med, showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov started planning one for his tightly wrapped Navy vet, Dr. Ethan Choi — ideally a farewell story that would include his ex-fiancée, nurse April Sexton. “We felt that was the way to honor Brian’s character,” says Schneider. “And to pay off the relationship with April,” Frolov adds. Their future together became clear in the hospital drama’s November 16 episode, when they surprised colleagues with wedding invitations! Not that there aren’t some hiccups. When the December 7 hour opens, it’s the evening before the nuptials, and April’s beloved father is experiencing chest pains. While she worries about his health, the bride and groom’s pre-wedding jitters worsen. “These are people used to being single,” Schneider says. “This is a huge step.” Fear not, vows are exchanged at historic St.

The Chicago Med season premiere got right into the action, revealing what happened in Halstead’s apartment building after the fire started.

Your burning questions ahead of Chicago Med Season 7 have been answered (sort of)! Will the staff warm to interim Emergency Department chief Dean Archer (Steven Weber)? He’s been in the position for two months when Season 7 starts, subbing while Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) recovers after being shot by an ex-patient. The former Navy officer is demanding and believes he’s always right, so expect conflict. Though exec producer Diane Frolov notes, “For all Archer’s emotional issues, he is still a dedicated and resourceful doctor.” How do the exits of Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) affect the dynamic? An unexpected bond has formed between Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), two docs who disliked each other because they both loved Natalie. “Their shared loss [after her departure] will bring them closer together as friends,” says fellow EP Andrew Schneider. The Season 6 finale of Chicago Med meant more than goodbye to another year. Original cast members Yaya Dacosta and Torrey DeVitto were also given their final episodes. For the past six seasons, DaCosta starred as ER nurse April Sexton, while DeVitto played Dr. Natalie Manning, an emergency pediatrics specialist on Chicago Med, as well as in crossover episodes on Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. DaCosta already has lined up a new series starring role on Fox’s Our Kind Of People. Meanwhile, DeVitto has joined the cast of indie feature Skelly.
The finale presented a neat wrap-up for the characters. Per TVLine, Dr. Manning’s mom received a new heart in a transplant, but Will gets fired for giving the mother pills. That prompts a confession from Natalie that she stole the drugs, and she pleads for Will’s reinstatement.
